  1. QUOTE (beck72 @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 02:01 PM) If Konerko does re-sign, then Viciedo should be traded. Morel seems like a good short term answer at 3b--Omar and Teahen if Morel gets hurt/ starts poorly[good glove, decent RH bat, not much power but don't need it with Dunn, Pk et al] Dayan is the 4th option at 3b. He's got value that would be wasted in AAA or the bench after he showed decent AB's in the bigs in Sept. The next thing would be to re-sign Putz. The sox would need to offer putz close to 5 million to stay. If they were going to do that they would have done it already, but I agree he should be on there top priority list.
  2. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 01:16 PM) decent relievers are a dime a dozen. I wouldn't deal a 21-year-old who posted a plus-.800 OPS for some reliever. I understand your point. I think we are evaluating Viciedo differently, which is just fine. The biggest hole right now is the bullpen, its not even first base as I think they can fill that position better than getting a real solid bullpen. Still, Konerko will be signed and then we will see how many good dime a dozen relievers we can find.
  3. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 11:06 AM) At this point 3B is still an option for Viciedo I suppose I do not see Viciedo as a great player.... Ever. In fact I would say the sox made a mistake with him. If I had my choice at least defensively I would take morel and let him work things out. Viciedo cannot hit a curve ball and he is suppose to be a top slugger. Don't see it, if it means a decent relief pitcher I would part with him today. Just my opinion.
  4. If they are "all in" like Williams states I really do not see a place for Viciedo on this team. In fact I think Viciedo will eventually be traded to get bullpen help. Morel will be the only "chance" player we take. Morel has true defensive skills he will stick. If Konerko doesn't resign, Lee might be the next target as you get a veteran, decent defensive player who is a good locker room guy. I do like the beltre Idea but I have no idea how this guy is in the locker room.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 07:28 PM) He has incredible stuff for a guy who has been pitching for less than a year. he is amazing. remmember what I told you..
  6. where is PTAC. He is a doctor and I don't think he has chimed in here. I think when the kid is suppose to play on an MLB team he will. Right now this doesn't effect our ballclub. If the padres want to trade in mid year I am sure he is still valuable, considering he wouldn't play MLB for another or two.
  7. so I get this is not good for the player, but he is easily two years away from playing in the majors, maybe three. so how does this effect this year again? I mean s*** happens, but lets not blow this thing out of proportion.
  8. So he is down on the ground for a long time wrenching with pain for a sprained ankle? If so I question his pain tolerance. has to be something more.
  9. QUOTE (The Beast @ Mar 6, 2010 -> 07:47 PM) Gentlemen - I wanted to start out by saying that I regret some of the posts that I have made in this thread. Not only are they unprofessional and not developed thoughts but they also are distasteful. You may wonder why I'm saying this, but ultimately, I just had someone come talk to me in regards to what I've said. And I've taken that individual's insight to heart. That being said, most of the steps I have taken up to this point in changing majors, switching schools and stuff have been the right choice. While I will admit to not enjoying the life of being a sports journalist or broadcaster, that doesn't mean that the business side of sports doesn't interest me. I am fascinated by things related to sports management and marketing, which includes some aspects of working with an organization or for working behind the scenes in radio doing whatever they tell me to do at 670 the score or at their competitor in AM-1000. I think I might have a plan as to how to get the ball rolling on this but it will take some effort on my part. Most of all, I do believe working on yourself, expanding your fan base (friendships and network) could be the most valuable thing for me right now. I appreciate all of your insight and will continue to read this thread as well as this board. Now, may I suggest parts of this thread belong in another thread entitled, 'Young sports professionals?' Ross, May I suggest, you do not vent your entire life on a Fan board. Southsider 2k had some good advice, also this is not the place to do this. Pick a couple of people who you think are your friends and PM them or call them on the phone. Just my two cents. In the end you will not be happy with the results on an open forum board.
  10. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Mar 8, 2010 -> 06:50 PM) Saw a headline on ESPN insider that Texas is considering trading Josh Hamilton. As I personally know him, it would be awesome to see him on the white sox. Think there could be a place for him in Chicago? Long term, could he fit in at 1B? Thoughts? If you personally know him, why don't you ask him?
  11. QUOTE (Ranger @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 08:48 AM) If you're saying that it could someday shift back to the days where the DH is a power hitter that puts up big numbers, that very well could happen. But this has been a trend over the last few years, and I wouldn't be surprised if it continues as you'll likely see fewer big power guys come into the game like we had during the last couple of decades. And, really, that's been the shift for most teams. Without the big guy as DH, teams are having to get more creative with their lineups. I mean, if you have David Ortiz (from a few years ago) on your team, there's no question he plays every day. Tough to take that bat out of a lineup for any reason, aside from injury or fatigue. Something else to consider, though I don't know how much of an effect it's really had, but baseball is now in a post-amphetamines era. What's potentially significant about that is those greenies used to help many of these guys get through a full season (before they were officially banned, there were estimates that as many as 80% of players used them). There were quite a few players at the time that said that particular banning would have a greater effect on the game then people would realize. I remember Chipper Jones saying something along the lines of he thought greenies were more important than steroids (take that for what it's worth). While I'm sure players can find something to help get them through, I would imagine that teams are having to find ways to get guys some rest here and there while the season goes on. If that means you get days off from the field because of a rotating DH, then that's one way. Ranger you maybe absolutley right about the coming trend, although I would say that if teams had players such as Thome (10 years ago) Thomas ( 10 years ago) both not associated with PEd's that they would go with them. Even today a guy like Dunn would be a perfect fit for a DH. I would argue Jermaine Dye with his head right could do a very good job as well, same with Prince Fielder in a few years. That slot is perfect for those power hitters who lack the ability to play defensively everyday. I for one like the DH, I also like Home runs especially in a ballpark like the Cell. Personally I think the DH spot this year will fail miserably unless Andrew Jones can somehow get his career back. I am not arguing I just think for this park you need a guy that is a pure homerun threat.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 04:40 PM) Remeber when Wood was an uber prospect? 7 years in the minors. My god. he must have gotten a huge bonus upfront.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 04:39 PM) unnecessary double steal by the angels they are just practicing.
  14. Dayan is juan uribe chubby. But drives in the first run. Looks like a great day out there. Kalapse do you have direct tv with the 600 stations its on foxsports west.
  15. QUOTE (Ranger @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 02:25 AM) I gotta tell you that I would not really question the majority opinion of a collection of MLB scouts when it came to observing talent and tools. However, without having any real interaction with the players and without being in a clubhouse on daily basis -- as scouts usually work for more than just one team -- I don't think they can really know for sure whether a guy cares or not. I'm not sold on that. This is just simply not a real-world scenario, shack. You have to know this. The ONLY way something like this works is if Peavy or someone else volunteers this. It's not up to a GM to start asking his players who would be willing to talk about a contract re-negotiation so another player can get signed. For starters, who do you ask first? Second, do you have any idea how difficult it is to sometimes get ahold of your own players during an offseason? A lot of times, these guys disappear until it's time to report. And they often don't return phone calls right away (even to their own agents), which leads me to: Third, do you realize how long the renegotiation alone can take? It can take weeks. Does it really sound feasible to get a renogotiation with one player done while negotiating with another player at the same time, knowing that one negotiation depends on the other? Not to mention you'd have to get it all done within a couple of days. I'm sorry, but this just wouldn't happen. It's not realistic. Not to mention the Union would be involved as well.
  16. seriously shoot this chick your on the show with.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 06:08 PM) KW had been speaking with him about Damon and other clients the entire offseason as I mentioned in other threads so thats not really new IMO. And its clear both Santa and the Easter bunny had good info on this one ;-) any chance the tooth fairy thinks that Damon will change his mind?
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 04:35 PM) No one thinks higher of him than I do. I just think it would be hard to give up ALL of your remaining prospects for him while agreeing to an 8 year or so extension without it having a huge impact on the shape of the organization. I still believe that we wouldn't beat out Boston for his services, but that's a different argument. thats where I differ, i think our prospects suck so you need to give as many as it takes to get it done. The guy is a legit star, with years ahead of him, he would be the core of this team and the team would be built around him and beckham.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 04:24 PM) Going into the season with literally no valuable prospects and no payroll flexibility is even dumber. I love AGon, but I just don't see him as a fit for this organization over the next 5 years due to his impending huge contract. seriously? The guy is a force from the left side and solves your replacement for konerko for the next 5-10 years. Konerko comes off the books next year as well as others.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 03:47 PM) I hope Kenny has a secret plan and that he thinks this will kind of force Damon's hand. That would be great playing Boras like that, I hope your right but doubt it very much. It would be better if AJ walked over with a cocktail and said what the hell is your agent doing? We had this thing all worked out!
  21. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 11:28 AM) Quick...read my post on the silence that is going on right now. The Sox have had discussions and an offer is out their. The ball is in Damon's court and it doesn't sound like the Sox are going to increase anything. However, the Sox are more optimistic than they were a week ago. You bet, JR will not go back and forth with boras (speculation on my part). Hopefully its enough to get Damon in the fold and be comfortable. I truly think he is an ozzie type player and would solidify the lineup from the left hand side. IF you guys hear of anything and you can share keep us updated.
  22. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 11:28 AM) This board used to be filled with folks who had really solid inside information but would be berated to the point that they stopped doing it as Rock should because people seem to feel they need to prove them wrong for some odd reason. The Keith Foulke deal was on the internet by sources from this site on another forum days before it went through. The same person had KW stepping down in early 2003 I believe and when that did not happen the person was bascially lynched.....not becasue they were wrong.....but because this site really wanted KW gone and it did not happen. jenks I completely agree with you. Its unfortunate but that is for another thread. I met Rock, he is a solid guy with good resources.
  23. Funny half the time people on this board ask Rock to check with his source, now people are crapping on it because its not what they want to hear. I too am personal friends with people in the media, and JimH who you all hate, has some great resources in the media, that said, it seems that unless you are JR, KW, Johnny damon or Scott Boras everyone is shut down for the moment. Lets not trash Rock. If you don't want to believe his source, then don't. This board has the Ranger on it who is part of the media, close to many team resources, and chances are if KW told him something off the record, he wouldn't go and run with it to some internet board.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 10:53 AM) He actually said both, but I think the "farce" thing was just an inference on his part. The second point is what he was really getting at, or at least that's how I took it. Ok, you may know better as you follow the board closer than I do. That said, his source may not be at liberty to say anything and this silence is consistant with the media shutting down on this topic as well. I only suspect that he has two offers and is taking the weekend to decide which one to take. It appears each is different in structure and there are many moving parts including his agent, family, Union and his personal feelings. This is not unlike any other job in life when one has mulitple opportunities that will involve moving, money and lifestyle. A couple of days to think does not reflect negatively on either side of the ledger right now.
  25. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 10:25 AM) I believe he said the entire thing was a farce. I maybe wrong but I don't think rock said this. I think and I am paraphrasing, he said his source said there was some action last week but now there is dead silence which he views as not being good.
