QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jan 26, 2010 -> 01:50 PM) The issue here is Quickman is his real life buddy, and when JimH turned into Jim from Harsh Times no one was around to calm him down. Fast forward to :55, and picture the sheet of paper as a printout of our posts, and Freddy Rodriguez as Quickman. That's how I picture their relationship. I am in a quandry of how I got pulled into this. I am friends with Jim, I know him well, I will speak highly of him, Jim has done some very good things for alot of people. I don't know you, and you do not know me, I have kept my distance from this board for along time, because of scenerios just like this. I used to waste my time argueing over silly things with people I do not respect. I have tried not to do that anymore. If I post I post directly to people I respect or seek opinion from. Why you would implicate me in this thread is beyond me. You are doing the exact same thing that people on this thread are pissed about.

QUOTE (Ranger @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 03:50 PM) I think that is reading too much into it. It's never been an issue of not trusting Ozzie's vision for an ideal team as much as it has been that it's just difficult to build a team exactly the way you want it to be built within a couple of years when you consider pre-existing multi-year contracts, alternatives (or lack of alternatives), and financial constraints. Now that the team is built the way Ozzie likes it, it would be easier to keep it in tact (if it works) than it would be to re-vamp the whole thing again. I don't think that this suddenly means Ozzie will be on Jerry's hotseat because he still has plenty of equity built up with the owner. Ozzie will be more heavily scrutinized by the fans and media for sure, but I doubt he will be in any greater danger of losing his job if things go poorly this year. Chris I completely agree. Ozzie is safe for along time, and so is KW. JR is extremely loyal to his people. These guys work as a team, not in silo's. Ozzie at this point in time has expressed his passion to change the look of the team and he is getting what he wants. Now that being stated, in the eyes of many he is playing with a light deck, and I would hate to waste a winnable year and money on a path that has so much skeptism. For the sox it is about the hot start to the season and a thrilling hard playing team that helps put people in the seats.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 07:05 PM) Are you serious? You'd much rather have him hit home runs for you. Do all of you seriously think that Andruw Jones and Mark Kotsay can give you enough production out of a DH spot, the most offensive oriented spot in the lineup? Thome is capable of putting up a .850 OPS, very few other players on this team can do that. Carlos Quentin and Paul Konerko might be the only ones capable of it at this point. Thome is an extremely valuable piece of the puzzle right now. Not because he's awesome, but because whatever we're going to use instead of him have proven nothing and will most likely produce nothing. Not sure what your argument is with me on this. Is it that I don't want thome back? or that KW put himself in this situation?
-
QUOTE (Ranger @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 03:54 PM) I'm somewhat confused by this, as well. During the season, almost every bit of feedback I'd get on Thome was that fans were sick of his HR-or-nothing game and that they needed to trade/release/bench him. And now that he may not be coming back, people think the Sox need to sign him? Ranger, this board has a tendancy to fall in love with players. That said, and I am by no means wanting thome back, Ozzie and KW have put themselves into this corner. They could have just cut bait and moved on. KW did not do a good job with this whole scenerio. They all like thome, he is a nice guy who does everything the whitesox want. Hire him as a bench coach after nobody picks him up.

Boras represents Damon. JR's comments about Boras clients tell me Damon is not a possiblity unless no other teamwants him, then negotiation is gone.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) Great, now we have to play Scotty Pods 18 times a season ... and Getz ... and Brian Anderson ... and Fields. All guys who will want to kick our ass. Good luck to our pitchers keeping Scotty off base. He had a lot of multi hit games last year. Royals are loading up on our players. I fully expect us to trade for DeJesus soon and the Royals to sign Dye or Thome. I think what you are saying is our minor league team is now playing in KC.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 05:48 PM) Honestly, the guy is trying to support his family. This was most likely his once chance to make some real money in his career, and he held out for it. Sure, the gamble didn't pay off because the economy is in rotten shape, but I would hardly call him dumb. I'd like to see how we would act if it were our wallets and our futures at stake. I think my point is he thought he was better than he is.Although I have no factual info, I bet the sox offer was simular to KC's at least as year one was concerned. He could have been with a winner in a city he liked, on a team where the players liked him. I think he settled for the same amount as if he would have signed right here, which is the part where I think he was dumb. He is a decent value for any team at that price, and having him would have aloud us to get another relief pitcher without busting the budget. That said I really think he would have been happier here than there.
-
He didn't sign here because he wanted a two year deal. Well if he doesn't get a two year deal, he might want a new agent. He was out of options. He played chicken with KW and lost. Without inside knowledge I can only specualte that if he would have signed a one year 2 million dollar contract we would have taken him and forgotten about Juan Pierre. Now he and his lovely bride will be playing in KC in front of 10, 000 fans for last place. When your that old and a contending team who you know likes you and wants you then you sign. Dumb.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 09:55 PM) Yep. I think the Brian Anderson defenders have gone the way of the American Indian. Sorry just wanted to make sure their weren't any kiss asses still lingering.
-
I am sure its because of the high ceiling and great potential he has. Maybe he will suddenly change and concentrate on baseball rather than women, or maybe he will cut down on his swing or maybe the coaching in KC is better than ours. I am sure there will be some moronic explanation of why he has failed, because it couldn't be because he sucks.

Jeremy Reed, Lance Broadway and Brian Anderson Non-Tendered
quickman replied to bighurt4life's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Its amazing how in love people on this site were with our prospects. Brian Anderson had some pop cult following on this board which was out of control.I mentioned it years ago this guy was nothing more than a 4th outfielder and an attitude waiting to be adjusted. Well its not just the whitesox who think he sucks. They still have problems in there system, but the newer regime needs another year. The players that are good have come from other orgs or signed freely ie cuba. Beckham of course was really a can't miss prospect. hard not to screw that up. I expect Josh Fields to lose his baseball life within two years as well. -
From what I read earlier in the year Linebrink was instrumental in getting peavy to accept coming here. They are friends just like putz and Thornton. i think the sox keep linebrink, he could bounce back strong to help save games for his buddy. I completely realize I am taking the angle of emotion with these comments, and KW doesn't usually run on emotion, but this could work out at least for the first half of the year.

I am curious as to why thornton would be so vocal about this unless he knew something was imminent. I mean why talk tot he press about this.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 12:21 PM) I am sure nothing will be done soon if this is a three way deal. why in the world would the angels want Konerko? I cannot see this happening. They do not need him plus they have a better first baseman right now. Makes no sense.
-
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 06:29 PM) exactly, makes tons of sense. esp bcuz we dont really have anyone down in the minor leagues to replace pk...but i dont see us getting him this yr unless we trade pk because i dont think either would want to dh I am not sure I follow, Why would we need someone to replace PK when we would be trading for Gonzelez? In addition, if we had both PK and Gonzelez, I am certian PK would DH whether he liked it or not, might save his aging hip from getting worse anyway. In fact maybe we could offload PK for a relief pitcher if we made that trade with sandiego.

Young, Studly, Under Team Control Outfielders
quickman replied to Jerksticks's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What about Jake Fox. Great bat, could be a DH someday and most likely won't cost too much. -
Thome, $ to LAD for Fuller-Jose to COL for $, Hynick
quickman replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Folks this maybe more of a tribute to Jim thome than anything else. Maybe the sox want to give him a last shot at winning the world series. He might have this time and maybe next year and thats it. Maybe the sox are giving one the best gentleman in baseball a shot at being on a world series team. If so I think its great. Word of this might not come out for years to come. -
Brian Anderson traded to Red Sox for Mark Kotsay
quickman replied to Jimmywins1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) It would have happened years ago if anyone else really wanted Brian Anderson. Hey long time no talk, Just had to come out of the closet on this one. So glad to see Anderson Gone. Its funny he really can't do anything right. He demands a trade, and its like KW seeks a team that he knows Anderson cannot play everyday for which is perfect for the whining b****. He gets sent down to triple A which he complained about here. I am sure he will get called up in september, but no way he plays everyday for that team. Too bad he couldn't get sent to san diego where his cute little bond frolics can flow in the breeze. Good ridance, never have to see him dive across the plate and try to hit a slider again. Ok back into hiding, talk to you again next year. -
Should the Sox Retaliate for the CQ Beaning?

Obsessed with (the lack of) Sox off-season moves?
quickman replied to shipps's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Well there is not going to be much action unless your interested in minor league players. The sox are an economy driven ball club and rightfully so. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 11:19 AM) If you get a pitcher out of it, then it's worth it. Like I said it depends on what Dye brings us, but really I thought we would go for a younger player. I am not convinced this will happen. i hope it does, but somthign just doesn't add up yet.
-
I don't understand this quite frankly. They are virtually going to be a wash in salary. Maybe the sox will save 2 million which is not that much. They are both old. The only additional comment I would add is Abreu is from Ozzies country. Ozzie may want him or he might be thinking back to when Abreu schooled the sox this summer. Anyway, this doesn't seem like the greates of moves to me. I agree it depends on what Dye brings us via trade, but I don't see how this fits the younger stronger, faster cheaper plan.

Folks as I ahve stated in a number of posts in this and other threads. This is truly a rebuilding year. The economy is helping this cause. I thought for sure most people around here would love that. Everyone is so infatuated with minor league players that I thought this would bring alot of excitement. Now, I am not a minor league guy, but this is actually a great move. The team is getting old and slow and payroll has been bloated since the world series as it should have been. Now its time to rebuild again. I do not think we will get a big free agent name unless that guy is part of a 5 year plan. They are building around Carlos and lexi, and the young pitchers. When they gell in two years they will add the right pieces. With Tex most likley going to Boston, I would explore the figgins/ Konerko thing again. Figgins fits for the next five years. What people really seem to be missing here is the Economic element that most people have never seen before. The economy is shot. By the way I also feel bad for those people graduating college last year and this year. They will never have of tougher time fiondign a job than what they are about to experience.

QUOTE (kane0730 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 08:49 PM) I agree with what you are saying here. But then why would they raise ticket prices??? There are going to be LOTS & LOTS of empty seats this year. Ok its the reverse of trickle down. So the people who are long time season ticket holders will continue to renew. They will be there forever, plus the corporate folks. Your season ticket base may go down by 5,000 people. Those are the people who jumped in the past few years. Use there vacation money, buy partial seasons, took a chance. Those folks go away. Discretionary funds are drying up. So lets say you have less of a base but you raise prices. Your taxign those who will committ no matter what. The other fans are gone regardless. Real life example me: I have been a sox season ticket holder for years and a blackhawk season ticket holder. This year I am only picking one. I chose the Hawks. Better exciting team, less games, less time sync. easier to sell the seats if I cannot use them. So instead of spending 17k on seats for both I chose just the hawks. For me its not just the tickets. Everytime I go, I spend $50 or more. My total outlay to whitesox baseball, might be 15k each year. I now get that back to put into my family. if money is fluent, available, and the economy good, I continue. Now, I am a long time fan and long time holder of tickets, and this economy will be effecting me. Baseball tickets, seem to be more of an expense to me than and asset. These examples may not make alot of sense to many here, but I do think its happening. I also think you will see things like half price mondays, or special things to draw fans in at a discount during the year. In addition, when people are ready to jump back in in 2010 or 2011 the prices will be set. This is truly a business, I really don't think emotion comes into play in the offseason. They are rebuilding, starting a new core nucleus and it will take a couple of years. In the meantime, they know it will be hard for people to go to alot of games. Its truly a great time to do this. They have a built in excuse...the economy, and they will be right.
