  1. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 12:54 PM) Once again explain to me how there is enough evidence to categorically say that Brandon Wood cannot hit or field at a major league level. Also, Erick Aybar's career OBP is .303. That's not exactly what you want for a a guy with no pop. I have seen and read enough about Wood to conclude he isn't good defensively and he has a lot of work to do offensively. As for Aybar, he isn't an OBP power guy. He's a very good defender up the middle at SS who provides a lot of speed, a decent average, and who won't K a lot. He's no world beater, but he's a solid option at the bottom of the order at SS and he's gotten better every year so far.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 11:37 AM) Brandon Wood can hit fastballs. Brandon Wood can not hit anything else. He is not like Josh Fields (who can't hit a fastball), except that both are going to be enormous busts. I dont' mind seeing if a change of scenery does Wood good but there are plenty of other guys I'd rather acquire, especially since we have Beckham and Viciedo that can play 3B. Defensievly Wood/Fields/Viciedo are all below average. From what I've seen of Wood, he had a slow bat and struggled to catch up with 90+ mph fastballs... however, you would have likely seen more of him than I would so I'll take your word for it right now.
  3. I'd love to get Ankiel. He's a very solid defender with a strong arm and can play any of the 3 OF spots, has enough pop to play in a corner spot, and has good speed. If we get him and feel we can sign for another 2-3 years fairly cheap, he'd give us another option in CF and we wouldn't have to rush Danks if he isn't ready. You put him in CF for this year and go from there. Perhaps maybe something like Brian Anderson and a pitching prospect would get the deal done. They could use BA as a 4th OF and defensive replacement. Also, maybe they'd even be interested in Fields, their other 3B aren't doing much better and Wallace has been struggling at AAA.
  4. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 11:41 AM) Now, say the Red Sox called and offered Michael Bowden or Clay Bucholz for Alexei.... would you hang up? That said, I like Alexei's power and ability to play SS and 2b. But do the sox move Beckham away from his natural position, to play 3b, or move Getz who looks like he's from Minnesota farm system [something sox fans have been wanting more of], and hope teams don't realize he can't hit a decent breaking ball? I'd definitely listen if the Red Sox offered one of their top pitching prospects, but I'm kind of inbetween. Ramirez possess the potential to be one of the top SS in baseball, if not the best, but he's such a dumbass at times and it's really frustrating. If he could get his head in the game and stop trying to be the Cuban Babe Ruth at bat, he could be a really special player.
  5. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 11:41 AM) The Angels gave also severely mismanaged the majority of their young positional players for the last decade or so. Who aver think Macier Izturis and Erick Aybar are better than a SS who's capable of putting up 35 homers in the majors, is probably not doing his job correctly. Both can actually field and hit at the major league level. In fact, I'd love to get Maicer Izturis on this team, he's a really good ball player.
  6. Who do you think is the most underrated prospect that you've seen in the White Sox system?
  7. Also, Ramirez is really starting to piss me off at SS. His head is not in the game or he thinks he's the greatest player ever. All year he's made a bunch of boneheaded plays. Sure, he makes the great play every so often, but that's not gonna help us when he throws away a ball to 1B, drops a feed at 2B because he's scared of getting hit, etc. I don't know if he has no baseball IQ (he's a great natural ball player, but he's probably the dumbest guy on the team regarding baseball), thinks he's the greatest s*** ever out there, or has his mind on something else, but he's becoming a liability out there. If we didn't have PK at first, Ramirez would have had a ton of throwing errors because of that stupid lob toss he does. I love Alexei and all the potential he has, but he's awfully frustrating at times...
  8. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 10:59 AM) As of today, Brandon Wood has had 9 more AB's (192) then Chris Getz at the major league level. Josh Fields have 500 more AB's then Wood. That's a nice sample size to use to say that someone can't hit at the major league level. You know how many AB's Carlos Quentin had before coming to Chicago? 395. That guy turned out to be a bust, didn't he? The Angels have been hyping up Wood for the past 5 years and he hasn't done s*** at the major league level. I've seen plenty of him and he can't hit major league pitching. He's a minor league all star but a major league dud. Carlos Quentin was a completely different situation because while he produced and showed a lot of promise for the DBacks, he couldn't stay healthy and they traded him for a pretty good prospect in Chris Carter. Way different scenarios.
  9. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 01:08 AM) Josh Fields have three times as many plate appearances as Brandon Wood at the big league level. He also doesn't have nearly as much pop or the ability to field two premiere positions like SS and 3b. 1.) Their pop is about equal. Wood put up bigger numbers in the minors, but Fields hit over 20 homers in slightly over 1/2 season of play. However, neither knows how to effectively use their power at the MLB level. 2.) Wood ain't much of a defender either and putting him at SS would be a scary scenario. 3.) Neither are good major league hitters and I don't know why you'd want either.
  10. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 01:02 AM) So... are you finally on the Allen bandwagon now? Oh, I've been a fan of him for a while... I just always questioned how close to ready he truly was. And it looks like he was pretty close.
  11. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 10:26 PM) 3rd. We move Beckham to 2b and make Getz a super-utility guy. When Viciedo is ready we move him (Viciedo) to a corner OF spot. Why would we trade for a slightly less bad version of Fields? Wood has the same problems as Fields, he can't hit a major league fastball.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 11:40 PM) Ian Snell is horrible. Maybe KW can trade the farm for Josh Johnson (farm is everyone but Flowers). I still think acquiring a righty reliever like Cla Meridith would be a good acquisition. I'd love to get someone with Johnson's stuff, but you gotta wonder how long that elbow is gonna last. As for Medidith, why even bother? He's mediocre and I see no reason to give up anything for him unless he's a part of a bigger package.
  13. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 09:22 PM) Lol, there was a Huddy following the moment he was drafted, so dont pat yourself on the back too hard Yeah, I know... I was one of the people who started it. After I saw his scouting video, I expressed how much I liked the pick.
  14. First off, I was the first one who got on the Huddy bandwagon. Just wanted to clear it up Also, with Allen, I think it's a legit possibility we see PK go on the DL sometime within in the next 2 weeks (depending on he and the team are doing) and Allen getting called up (if he's hitting at AAA, I wouldn't be surprised to see him mash while playing in Charlotte's stadium).
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 05:17 PM) I would do anything I can to get rid of Konerko and his salary. With his thumb issues and seemingly diminished bat speed, he's not going to put up the power necessary to be making as much as he is. I'd say the diminished bat speed this year has been because of his thumb. They go basically hand in hand.
  16. Also, I wouldn't mind putting Paulie on the DL for a while and calling up either Allen or Flowers to play 1B (probably Allen because we probably want Flowers to focus on catching, and we'd probably prefer a lefty bat to platoon at 1B with Fields). With his hand the way it is, Paulie isn't helping the team as it's obvious he's struggling to swing the bat with any authority and he's all out of sorts at bat. Hopefully this can be cleared up for 2010, because I feel 2010 could be a huge year for us if we do everything right regarding trades and free agency. Also, anyone else think Poreda is a lock to be traded. He has a ton of trade value and quite frankly, I highly doubt we go with 4 lefties in the rotation.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 05:50 PM) I think were sellers but that doesn't mean we don't buy in some areas. Whatever Kenny does I think it will be geared more towards the long-term future of the club than the short-term. Freddy Sanchez doesn't sound bad and he's a good hitter, but he's going to be 32 years old next year and I believe he's owed a good chunk of money. That said, I think the Sox will trade some players but at the same time target another player or two and no matter what they do I still expect them to "contend" for the AL Central because of the strong rotation. I agree with this assessment. While we might "buy", the player we will be adding won't be for just one year and will be someone who can help us in the future as well as now. That's why Peavy made some sense because even if we don't win this year, he's still only 27-28 and can be a big help in the future. Haren is a possibility and maybe even Matt Holliday if we feel we can resign him after the season. Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see Dotel traded or Dye. On another note, I have been hearing and reading that Houston Street will be on the block and that the Rockies will likely get as much value, if not more value than what they got for Holliday. If Street has that much value, I really wouldn't be oppossed to traded Jenks if we can get a couple stud prospects in return.
  18. How many available roster spaces do all 4 of the affiliates have? I assume Birmingham has to move 2-3 guys up, does Charlotte have any open spaces? I assume we'll see Phegley and Mitchell in Kanny to replace some of the guys that moved up.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 11:48 AM) The response to that is; we're too used to our modern age of communication. If an atomic weapon went off right now, we'd have the pictures on the news within a day, even if it wasn't safe to go in to the area. Put yourself in 1945 Japan. A city has just been completely obliterated out of no where. The country has been at war for years, its supplies are strained, virtually every city except for a handful, including the capitol, have been fire-bombed to pieces. There's no electronic communication. There's no email. There's phone and telegraph service and radio, but the bomb took all of those out. If you want to get pictures of the devastation, you literally have to be in the area, take the film, have it not destroyed by radiation, not die yourself, process them, and then ship them across a bombed-out country. And at the same time, the Russians attacked in Manchuria and overwhelmed the Japanese army, so the army itself was incredibly distracted. The 2nd bomb was being dropped before the Japanese had anything but the most basic of an understanding of what had happened in Hiroshima. So what, don't you think the leadership in Japan was getting intel about how the whole city got obliterated? I'm sorry, but if they didn't know the power of the A-Bomb after Hiroshima, they're retards. You don't need film, internet, and e-mail to get reports of a huge bomb that destroyed a whole city. It is idiotic to think Japan was going to surrender anytime soon. They have had soldiers who are still in jungles waiting to fight. It is Japanese code to never surrender. To think that they were on the verge of surrendering is lunacy. They didn't surrender until after Nagasaki, and I guarantee you they didn't want to but they had to. Yeah, it sucks innocent people had to die, but there is no question it saved hundreds of thousands of American lives, if not more.
  20. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 11:44 AM) I definitely would never want to be responsible for making a decision like that. Plus, to that point, we never really even had much of a beef with Japan, and vice versa. Yeah, except until they bombed pearl harbor... however, when you look back at it, Japan had a legit reason to consider us an enemy. It is no secret that FDR wanted to enter the war and he was providing a ton of help to Britian. Japan figured we'd join sooner or later, so they decided to strike first.
  21. QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 11:26 AM) I was at that game...it was so dumb. I believe you mean so awesome.
  22. Dan Hudson completes the awesomeness in Birmingham. Looks like we are putting him on the fast track with a possible call up sometime next year, if not sooner (potential 5th starter option for next year?).
  23. Here's the interview with Walpin. Don't even pay attention to Beck if you don't like him...The first half is at the bottom of this link: http://www.therightscoop.com/video-glenn-b...r-june-17-2009/ This is the sanity test Beck gave him: I'm sorry, but yeah, I ain't buying these charges they are putting on Walpin. First off, he's man enough to come on TV and defend himself, while the people placing these charges on him are hiding behind closed doors. Also, who cares where he was working, he was getting his job done, and evidently, he must have been doing his job pretty good if they wanted him to do a big speech where got more time than the CEO of the company that ran this event. And he doesn't seem senile to me, a little old, yes, but not senile. This is so bogus. The left went crazy when Bush LEGALLY fired the lawyers, but when Obama ILLEGALLY fires an Inspector General on bogus charges, you only got Glenn Beck reporting.
  24. I agree we need another righty for the top of this rotation, but who? Haren would be a dream come true, but that would require a ton, but it might be worth it.
