  1. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 10:30 PM) I think the book deal and political appearances that were in initial violation of her contract to begin with justify her termination. And her not acknowledging invitations and not showing up for events she was contracted to be at also justify her termination. I really don't care. She's not attacking anyone, and she's making a living out of this. Good for her. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 10:30 PM) But for all the talk about liberals wanting everyone to be the victim, it seems that nobody seems to whine louder about being persecuted than a conservative these days. Most conservatives are getting pissed cause every f***ing day they're called crazy gun nuts who are homophobic, etc. etc. etc. And all the double standards. It gets f***ing annoying. You know for a fact if Dennis Miller or anyone stated that Michelle Obama looks like slutty stewardess, the media would be going crazy and feminists would be protesting outside his house... but when David Letterman stats Sarah Palin looks like a slutty stewardess, he's just a silly comedian making a joke!
  2. What was the saddest part of the game today? I'll have to go with Clayton Richard looking like more of a hitter Fields has all season.
  3. After thinking about it, this is a really good strategy if we actually plan on really ponying up and signing at least one of Dane Williams or Brian Goodwin. We wait on HS players who fall because of sign-ability into the teens, draft players in the top 10 rounds who might be overdrafts but get them cheaper, and use the money we save and pay over-slot for the HS guys in the teens. This way, you still get the HS guys later, but the overdrafts you get in the rounds 5-10 range are better then the overdrafts you'd likely get in the 10-20 range. However, this is only if we were actually set on trying to sign this guys. If we were like, "Hey, lets take them for the hell of it", then no, most likely not a good strategy.
  4. Jhonny Nunez is looking like he was the best piece we got back for Swisher...
  5. He's gotta stop pointing the bat so far out towards the pitcher. He might be able to get it to work for a little bit, but as he gets older and his reflexes decrease, it's gonna make hitting a lot tougher on him. And he does need to get stronger. His lower body looks really weak.
  6. But firesale sounds so much better than retooling.
  7. Poreda has a nice fastball. 93-95 is plenty with the movement he's got. Going up to around 97 is nice, but it takes away from the movement. He just really needs to work on his arm action for his breaking pitches and change. You can easily tell when the offspeed pitch is coming with how he slows down his arm.
  8. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 09:50 PM) Their will not be a firesale, but we will be trading a lot of our assets. I don't see this as a bad thing, KW will maximize returns. When most people say firesale, I think they mean the trading of Dye and Dotel for sure, with the possibility of Jenks, Linebrink, Carrasco, Pierzynski, Konerko, and Thornton... and maybe Fields and/or Anderson as additional peices. I don't think anyone really means a complete overhaul, Florida Marlins type of firesale.
  9. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 09:36 PM) I thought Poreda's velocity was supposed to be 98ish on his fastball... MIL broadcast had him at 92 mostly topping out at 94? Is their gun off? Considering this is likely his first time working out of the pen in at least a couple of years, I'd say there's a good chance his arm wasn't completely warmed up like it would be on gameday when he's starting. He could be the type that gets more strength as the game goes. Plus, this was his first time pitching in the bigs... I'm sure he had quite a few butterflies in his stomach.
  10. You sure about that Beck? If we keep playing like this, there is absolutely no reason not to go into a firesale or retooling mode.
  11. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 12:30 PM) Yeah... she was really treated like s*** just for giving an honest answer, but it looks like she did this much to herself. Or at least Trump is really good at manipulating the public, myself included. I would have loved to see what would have happened if she answered the question as: "My view on gay marriage is the same as President Barack Obama's and I feel marriage should be only between a man and a woman." The thing I hate about the media isn't that they are far left, I could give a s***. If you love Obama, fine, it's a free country... The thing I hate is all the personal attacks they put out on people who disagree with their ideology. I understand trying to make the other side look stupid or bad, that's all politics... but do you have no decency? I also love how all the feminists aren't making a big deal about any of this, or the Palin situations...
  12. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 07:39 AM) ThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThan kyouhankyou I am to please... in a perverted kinda way.
  13. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 09:15 PM) Anyone have a scouting report on Dane Williams, ive heard Bearsox mention him a couple times but dont know anything about him. From what I've read, he was considered a top 2-4 round talent, but fell due to sign-ability concerns. From the video I saw, he seems to have a good projectable frame with a pretty lively fastball in the low 90's that will hopefully increase in velocity once he ages and fills out. Not much sure about anything else though.
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 09:11 PM) It's June, he's pitching on short rest, and he's still a rookie. Ozzie made the correct decision taking him out. It's one freaking game. He's still very young, I think his arm can take another 10 pitches. Do you want to win, or are you worried about the effect an extra 10 or so pitches will have on his long term future? Give me a break. There's a big difference between severely overworking a pitcher than there is by giving the pitcher a chance to win the game by increasing his pitch count by 10 pitches in one game. If Richard's arm falls off because he threw 115 pitches in a game when he's 25 years old, well... he didn't have long for this game in the first place.
  15. I'm in between on this draft... while we got a couple guys with high upside in Mitchell, Thompson, and Morgado, and what seems like a very solid but safe pick in Phegley, I'm not loving all of our other picks. It seems after the 1st day, we went with a lot of cheap and low upside guys (not saying that all of them are, but quite a few seem like that). However, if we pony up and sign Goodwin and Dane Williams, this draft automatically becomes a winner.
  16. This isn't a question but.... We should try and get more interviews with some of the draftees and even minor leaguers. I've been searching, and most of them have facebooks, so I assume you could maybe set up a few interviews on there with the players.
  17. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 08:50 PM) 102 for Richard. Still would have let him finish the inning. Did not seem to be tiring. It was to premature to take him out. Let him try and finish the inning at the very least. Ozzie likes to take his pitchers out before they have an opportunity to lose, and I freaking hate that idea. You should let the pitchers have the opportunity to win. And that, in combo with our god awful defensive positioning with the pitcher at bat, is gonna cost us the game, most likely.
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 08:06 PM) He'd definitley be a rent. He's already said he'd love to play for the Yankees. Players say they'd love to play for team X all the time. In the end, it seems like its about money over 90% of the time... However, the only problem is the Yankees have a ton of money to spend. But the Yankees might not be interested considering Austin Jackson is knocking on the door right now.
  19. If it's a rent a player, what's the point? However, if we want to sign him to an extension right away, I'm all for it... but there's no way Boras lets him not hit the open market. Odds are extremely low... but I love to idea of getting Holliday being our everyday LF, either by trade and signed to an extension or signed in free agency. However, it'd require us putting aside our differences with Boras and letting Hahn do all the work.
  20. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) Granted, but why not release them outright? I just don't see either player coming back to the White Sox. They wouldn't have acquired Castro if the had Miller in the plans for the rest of 2009. Betemit played his way out of Chicago. It's to improve the Charlotte team. I'm sure the ownership in Charlotte isn't loving that the best player on the team is Andy Phillips. If anything, having Betemit rake at AAA will raise his value a bit and might be an add in player in a bigger trade to an NL team.
  21. Not really sure why we took out Clayton... was his pitch count really that high? If anything, we should have put Clayton at first and put Dotel in for Fields... and the sad part is, I'm only half joking.
  22. Considering they didn't refuse assignment to Charlotte, they want to be there most likely.
  23. Your walk total has increased from only 15 in 2008 to 52 this year. Was this an area you thought you needed to focus on? Also, how has your approach changed while at bat? Do you feel that being able to dedicate yourself 100% to baseball, your overall performance is only going to get better? From a statistical standpoint, it looks like your strikeout rate might be your biggest flaw at bat. Do you agree with that? And how do you plan on lowering your strikeout rate? What type of hitter do you view yourself being in the future? There's been a lot of talk of your power potential, but do you think you're going to be a home run threat, or more of a gap-gap doubles and triples threat? What do you think you need to work on the most? Do you think your football background will help you in developing as a baseball player?
  24. QUOTE (rangercal @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 11:54 AM) You are absolutely right. Got caught in the moment. Sorry about that Bearsox. No problem at all....
  25. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 11:13 AM) Alexei is in his second season in the majors and his first full-season. Everyone here has probably heard of the sophmore slump and Alexei went through it early in the season. Teams had a full off-season to scout players and major league pitchers made a major adjustment to how they pitched Alexei and he had a hell of a time handling the breaking pitch early in the season. He has since made adjustments and has been playing much better, as evidence of his past months numbers (and his seasonal numbers, all of which are trending upwards). He also was playing SS for truly his first time at the major league level and while I realize he was a natural SS (or so they say) it wasn't as if he had been a fixture at short in Cuba either. So bottom line we have a guy that is still developing, although he is a bit older, and he put up fantastic numbers last season and shows the ability to be one of those guys that can hit for a very high average. Will he ever match the numbers he put up last year, I don't know, but I certainly think he's earned a shot and shown enough to warrant an extended look and it would be very foolish to be short-sighted and deem him a utility player based upon two below average months and really only three below average months in his young major league career (and one of those months was his first month in the majors where he hardly ever played). Again, that's not what I'm doing. I keep saying there's no reason why Alexei shouldn't play out the rest of the season at SS... All I'm saying is depending on how the rest of the year goes, it might not be bad idea to move Alexei to maybe another spot and see how Beckham handles SS.
