QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 16, 2008 -> 06:34 PM) Personally I'd rather move Fields and Contreras elsewhere for a starter (not necessarily in the same deal) but if you packaged Fields with some prospects you could get a very good starter in return, and than move Contreras off the books which would enable you to resign Crede to a 3 year 21M deal with incentives that could push it into the 30-33M range. I don't know if that is not enouhg money for Crede, but I think it would benefit the Sox (but that is because I would do almost anything to get another starter here and Jose elsewhere). While the team can not "go around the player's agent" I believe the agent is bound to present all offers to his client. If Joe wants to test the waters, he should. It is not like the team would hang on to him if they had a better option.

QUOTE(striker62704 @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 10:05 AM) I'm sure this has been posted before, but I wanted to bring it up again. http://www.baseball-reference.com/w/walkegr01.shtml Doesn't make any sense. His highest batting average was .294. His highest obp was .346. He shouldn't be instructing. If performance was the key, Tiger Woods would be the greeatest golf coach in the world and not need an instructor. Just like Tony LaRussa credits time on the bench with becomong a great manager, so too can guys who do not have the natural gifts and have to work at it. The main reason Walker should not be coaching is the results with the hitters over the past couple seasons and the lack of success throughout the system.

QUOTE(knightni @ Feb 12, 2008 -> 11:40 PM) What's next, The Bobby Knight Hunting Show? "Listen up you little s***s, today, lesson one: We're going to learn how to shoot at the neighbors and blame it on our hunting partner." Episode One's guest star Dick Chaney . . .

Mercury Morris on with Boers and Bernstein
Texsox replied to WhiteSoxfan1986's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
There will never be a good "best of all time" claim in a team sport, nor in most individual sports. Given time to prepare, the 72 Dolphons would be competitive with any team of the past ten years. They still block and tackle the same. Toss in some new rules, new interpretations of old rules, etc and they would need some time to adjust, but all great teams adjust or they would not have that level of success. Plus these guys are like 60 years old now, it would take a year of liftign weights to even come close. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 09:16 AM) I don't know what the instant negatitve sentiment is for some, but to see a young guy bust his ass over the off season and make a committment to baseball excites me. Hell think how much different this franchise would have looked if Brian Anderson had done this two years ago. Nick Massett coming into camp ready to go gives us another electric arm as an option in the pen, or maybe even starting. Great points. If that spirit catches on, this could be a very good season. -
There are always multiple sides to every story. It is a terrible disservice to actual victims of injustice when anyone pretends to be a victim. Two wrongs do not make a right. We must guard against painting too broad a stroke with that brush.

After hundreds of projections, I don't have to even look to know the comments. If they project a great season, they are geniuses, if they project terrible, they are idiots. You gotta play the games Anything can happen, and usually does. Being right more than 50% of the time is flat out great and makes you a nice living in Vegas.

QUOTE(Reddy @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 11:26 PM) i usually just say something like... "so there's this white sox message board that i go to and ..." except usually i'm cut off with a resounding chorus of "wow, you're a loser" When they call me a loser, I whip out my post count And confirm it

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 12:53 AM) I finally found a reason to vote for Hillary. Sorry Barack. I do like seeing the kids involved. And great use of "change" in the song. Also, looking over some of the coverage and campaign spots, I noticed I like her a lot more when "he's" not around. So for at least this voter, the campign would do better to provide some distance from "him". And Obama isn't do any favors by having Ted Kennedy campaign for him. Not certain that's going to help him in my eyes. But I will try to get over to the Obama rally Wednesday.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Femtocell Basically your cell phone links to your own "mini cell tower" while at home and uses the internet to link to your cell phone service provider. Early plans have made these calls free, or at least not part of your cell packaged minutes. When you leave your house, they start accumulating as always. Better reception, cheaper calls. There are some hurdles left, see the wiki, but overall pretty cool stuff.

QUOTE(knightni @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 10:38 PM) The add did prompt me to start the thread, yes. But I believe that was in the ad as well, or perhaps the trailer.

It seems they would have the technology to not display unless someone clicked on the image. That might be a compromise.

It seems to far fetched with dozens of people needing to know to pull it off. But I would not be shocked, surprised, but not shocked.

It has been the plot line in literature and movies. Is there a stand in for the President?

QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 16, 2008 -> 10:12 PM) Thanks for straightening me out. I keep forgetting. In the good old days we had the Soviet Union also giving aid around the world and we needed to stop that because it would spread communism. So we helped all sorts of nations. Now that we do not have that threat, we can build a wall and let them die! It's fun to be a conservative.

Obama couldn't make it down here so he's sending Ted Kennedy on Wednesday. I have an appointment at 2, I'm hoping to be done in time to see him. Hillary is also suppose to be in the neighborhood. Great article in my local paper on how Texas allocates delegates. http://www.themonitor.com/articles/delegat...democratic.html The supers down here seem to be in line with Hillary. So basically the statewide total isn't used to determine delegates won, it's district by district.

I just spent a great four hours hiking one of my favorite places anywhere http://www.worldbirdingcenter.org/sites/mission/ . Some of the greatest birding anywhere in North America. Orioles, Green Jays, Chachalacas, Road Runners, and so many more I can never identify. About three years ago they closed down the RV campground inside the state park, closed the roads, upgraded the facilities, and a whole bunch more making it one of the top sites in the World Birding Centers. We took the trail down to the river and watched as the birds cruised low to the water catching insect. There were perhaps close to 100 Winter Texans riding bikes and hiking the trails. There is a youth camp that roughly parallels the park where my Scout Troop has camped about a dozen times. It has always been one of our favorite places. Sad to know it will basically be shut down forever soon.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 10:40 AM) I thought the show was awesome until the end when the taste-testers showed up. I thought the history behind the brands in each city was really interesting, especially all the different naming rights issues and stolen crust recipes. But once those firefighters sat down, the show certainly did suck. What they needed to do was find some completely neutral participants and test it that way. I dont know, maybe some guys in Idaho or Washington or somewhere that those types of pizza arent readily available Or normal New Yorkers. Not a bunch of childish guys. I've enjoyed New York style. In fact, the best pie down here is a NY style. Actually just a little bit thicker, but stil you can fold it over. But I'll pass over it in a second for a Lou's deep dish.
