Old Guy R&R News TOWNSHEND REVEALS HIS WISH LIST FOR THE WHO IN 2008 Great news for all Who fans. In his latest blog entry on thewho.com, Pete Townshend gives you a sneak preview into what could be a packed diary for The Who in 2008. "After a talk with Roger yesterday," writes Pete, "we came up with a wish-list style plan. We still like the idea of playing Japan - especially as Amazing Journey has yet to be released there and we might be able to give it a push by performing there around the time of the release this Autumn. We also talked about revisiting Quadrophenia the way we did it in the '90s. This is all work for the Autumn. Roger is working on his own idea for an album for us, with the producer T-Bone Burnett, who is an old friend of mine. I am hoping to come up with some songs for a more conventional Who record. There is a chance we might play some shows in the Festival season this summer." Make sure you bookmark www.thewho.com for updates as they come in. SMASHING PRECONCEPTIONS This blog entry follows the publication of an exclusive interview in which Pete answers the questions of 50 subscribers to thewho.com in his own inimitable, uncompromising way. "Pete may not be smashing guitars anymore," says Rob Lee, Editor of thewho.com, "but he hasn't stopped smashing preconceptions." QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 08:15 AM) That's the first thing that came to my mind too! I thought that drug was only for teenage girls? Who says I'm not?

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 08:23 AM) Not to totally hijack the thread, but kinda like a bunch of trial lawyers giving a bunch of money to Democrats to let FISA expire? Just sayin'. Exactly. Thankfully it doesn't happen with Republicans

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 07:15 AM) I caught a 4ft. long Grand Barracuda off the coast of Miami in 2002. Seemed like it took an eternity to get it into the boat, but in reality it was about 25 minutes. That thing now resides on the wall over my desk. Hey FlaSoxxJim, I found your pet 'cuda . . .

Yesterday, I was listening to some students discuss where to sit in class. At first I thought it was distasteful gallows humor. After listening I realized they were seriously discussing it and concerned for their own safety. There are thousands of colleges and tens of thousands of lecture halls, hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of classrooms. The odds are so small we would ever be around a gunman. Sad that the conversation did make sense. I sit up front. Probably always will.

What will be most interesting is how we handle any changes in immigration. Currently, if a Cuban touches the sand, they are a citizen. If they are intercepted in the surf, they are returned. Perhaps we will normalize relations and put something together that is less risky for the Cubans. I am certain there will be much speculation over the coming weeks and months. But in the end not much change at all. He had a very long reign.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 10:33 PM) Actually, I was in the Bulls locker room once back in the glory days and saw a LOT of THINGS that I doubt anyone else here has.... It's ok, the women will lie to you and tell you size doesn't matter . . .

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 06:43 PM) Well I certainly didn't think I would be called a racist. I just didn't think that card would be pulled out. I had the article sent to me and was kind of shocked to read some of the stuff and see the pictures. As well as the whereabouts of the $500,000 being unknown. I thought maybe some other people would be shocked as well. Maybe be like... yeah that's screwed up or yeah that was totally mishandled or whatever. I thought the reaction would be pretty a universal one. Honestly though...for someone to say their impression is the poster who started the thread is a racist in denial of his own hate, is just as bad as any other personal attack I have read on here. He knows absolutely nothing about me. Just like the original coverage was slanted and wrong, perhaps this too is slanted and wrong. And I know your pain, I was often accused by another poster as being a racist. That pissed me off more than any other remark.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 05:28 PM) Im more interested in why this thread is still open. Because it is another site that shuts down threads like that

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 05:39 PM) I'm just speaking of you not having the balls to get in my face and call me a racist with nothing to back it up. That card gets played very easily around here. The worst offender(s) are gone, but it still happens. That was one reason I asked where you were going with the article and probably why there are so few replies to the thread.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 05:26 PM) Which candidate is he using phrases from? Edwards from 2004 This is like pointing to $500 in unpaid rent from the Clinton campaign and then leqarning Obama delayed almost a million dollars worth. Routine stuff that doesn't really amount to anything.
-
QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 05:14 PM) But to JUST find out that these are the rules? It was written as if they assumed it was just a straight forward primary and now they are like "oh crap. there is this caucus thing too!" It really shows their ineptitude and "assumption" this would be wrapped up on Super Tuesday and they would have to worry about these other states. This is very minor stuff. Every candidate has stuff like this happen. Kind of like Obama accidentally using phrases from another candidate.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 04:42 PM) That's right...make the minimum wage earning telemarketer feel guilty. You're a jerk! I real salesperson would have told me there were pretty pictures and offered to throw in a BMW. Lazy telemarketers

QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 04:50 PM) Doesnt sound like you need a PDA if youre just looking up contacts and setting appointments. I use Outlook at my desk and want to sync to it. A standard phone will not. I'm basically going to replace my Palm PDA.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 04:06 PM) Maybe it's just that Texas's rules are that messed up (And from what I've read, they are.) Delegates are proportioned by state rep districts. The better the turnout in a district, the more delegates that area gets. Very similar to the electoral college. As I posted yesterday, a candidate could win the popular vote in Texas and not receive as many delegates as the second place finisher.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 03:10 PM) http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...8021702461.html How is she ready to lead from day one? Her campaign didnt even know the RULES to a primary-caucus. They've had over a YEAR to figure this out and they JUST learned the rules? She is NOT ready to lead from day one. stretching.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 04:56 PM) didn't the prosecutor want to charge the kids that attacked the other ones with attempted murder? I think thats what touched off the big controversy. Sure, cover the protests, but put things in context. They were led by Al Sharpton. The media ignores plenty of big protests which have people raising millions of dollars. I guess they just decided to go along with mob rule on this one. I think the media did a poor job covering the story. You think they did a good job. Maybe we should just leave it at that. I think the media can do a great job of covering lies. We want the media to point the camera everywhere and we want to see everything, and then let us decide. The old "all the news and let you decide". The more they inject themselves into the story, by being the investigators, instead of reporting on the real investigators, they get in trouble.
-
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 04:42 PM) They already have a bunch of employees whom should be digging into stories and trying to find the facts. They are called journalists So they should be ahead of the prosecutors? We're not going to cover the prosecutor or that big protest with 2,000 people who raised hundreds of thousands of dollars because our sources can not confirm the facts?

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 03:44 PM) It's fine to give out breaking news. But they were on this story for months, they decided to go with the pc version of the story (white kids bad, black kids good). When the story was actually much more complicated. They had plenty of time to dig deeper into the situation. And no, having some lame soviet style news agency is a bad idea. Even with our sad state of network news, it's still better than that. Actually TAAS was very good, absent of their political coverage, which was very lame. But without any competition, they did not advertise, and didn't have the pressure to have high ratings. The news outlets did have plenty of time to dig into the situation, but is hiring a bunch of private investigators our medias responsibility? I'm not trying to be argumentative, but we can point out all sorts of issues, but solutions don't seem to be around the corner.
-
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 03:32 PM) I think they need to look deeper into stories they decide to give that much attention. Yes. It would be easier if we expected news the next day or week. But we want news all day and all night. Not certain how to fix that. People get interested and tune in. I think they are more reflecting our own interests. And if we are not interested, and they start pushing something, people complain they are being "activists". Perhaps the Soviets had it right with TAAS. Official news right from the source.
