  1. Major oversight. Our resident experts on most things alcoholic, and definitely all things with a head, FlaSoxxJim is not included. Wish I had nominated him
  2. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 05:10 PM) I was going to vote for myself, but then I realized I get to take advantage of myself whenever I want. I'll vote for you, if you vote for me, same deal for y'all And for those of you thinking of voting for Nuke, he's currently drinking in Iraq, I prefer South Padre Island during Spring Break
  3. QUOTE(Soxy @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 01:47 PM) I would agree with you. None of my male colleagues get called "dear" or complimented on how they look when they give a talk. It's frustrating--but we also don't have any minority men in my program to compare my treatment to. Anyway, here is an amazing op-ed from a while ago from the NYT. The other women in my program (and some who've finished) all found it really resonated--as did some non-academic chums. Do guys receive any credit for looking good?
  4. People vote for the candidate that they think will benefit them the most. We may say, we're looking for someone who will do best for America, and by extension, that would mean best for themselves. It's easy to believe that someone like themselves would be most likely to produce the most beneficial results. Perhaps that isn't being racist or sexist, it's being selfish.
  5. Same issue, different labels. Dismissing someone's contribution and the content of their character, or accepting serious flaws, based on their appearance or genetics, hurts us all. But hey we even dismiss Harvard Economic experts
  6. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 28, 2008 -> 05:58 PM) You guys are welcome to think that if you want, but if you actually look on their websites, most of the candidates have a lot of specifics they are suggesting. I think they all have plans, and they all have specific CHANGES they want to make. So to me, that's not the issue. The issue is, which one might actually get it done. McCain looks like that guy to me, in the GOP - he knows how to actually work across the aisle, he's consistent in his convictions, and he isn't overly divisive. Obama similarly for the Dems, has a track record of not being as divisive and actually working with the other party. gp
  7. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jan 28, 2008 -> 01:32 PM) Thome is a class act. Perhaps.
  8. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 28, 2008 -> 12:47 PM) OK, I read it. At the time I read the Trib (I usually avoid the Sun Times). I still see the same thing - it doesn't look squeeky clean, but frankly, I don't see anything too underhanded about it either. No pay for play. Just Obama and Rezko trying to help each other out financially. The only sleeze in that was Obama getting involved with the guy at all - that was his mistake. If I am understanding the story, the "dirt" is Obama has a sleazy neighbor who he bought some property from. Seems like untiol there is more confirmed, not much of a story.
  9. I do not believe Bush has been nearly as bad as many here. I also think President receive too much credit and blame for what happens during their Presidency. The fans want to take all the credit and point to their predecessor to blame any problems. And their opponents want to give them all the blame and none of the successes.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 28, 2008 -> 12:00 PM) I think it is more like the more they see of the other candidates, the more they realize that McCain isn't that bad... Perhaps. I'd like to think more of the next POTUS
  11. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 28, 2008 -> 11:53 AM) The evil misquoter making an appearance, I miss him
  12. good stuff and nice spin on the Thome missing.
  13. I think you are correct. It's old versus new. Owed a chance versus not owed anything. I still like McCain's chances, the more people see him, the more they will like.
  14. Again, if the story is true, that she ran off with another man, he is acting almost exactly like most guys would. She ran away from the kids. We do not know how he is acting around the kids or what he is doing, if, and this is a huge "if", she did run off with some guy and left her children behind, (which has happened) he isn't too far off. From what I've seen and read, it seems unlikely, but innocent until proven guilty and all that.
  15. I do not mean to disparage Mr. Clements, but there are thousands of guys with similar resumes, how does this guy get entrusted with our AA hitters? Zero MLB experience. Three seasons as a High School head baseball coach, etc? Not so much defending him, but how do some of these guys have careers like this? Of course he has Walker to help him out . . .
  16. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 10:28 AM) Point is, if you are going to write an article about a steroid fueled team in chicago, the #1 focus should be the cubs. Their long time face of the franchise, several players named in the mitchell report, and their pitching messiah are all more important to the team than cansecos short stint here. No, they should write about Bonds. Every article, every time. He's far more important than any Cub or Sox player.
  17. cue music, Steve Dahl "Skylab" I think we still owe Australia from a $500 fine for littering. Who cares about a satellite, we lost an entire space station.
  18. Someone was murdered is seems, so hopefully someone is one step closer to being caught and punished. How would you act if your wife ran off with another guy? Having Dahl host a dating contest would not be a bad thing, except, he sure seems guilty, so in that case, he just gives Bill Curtis a few minutes on American Justice, Bill "Perhaps oddest of all was his appearance on a popular Chicago Radio Show . . ." I Bill Curtis
  19. QUOTE(Soxy @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 03:15 PM) Serves them right for needing air conditioning when it is so cold in the rest of the country. . . Be nice, it's a curse we live with
  20. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 08:43 PM) I'll defer to DBAHO, but I bet ANZAC Day (April 25th) gives it a run for it's money. I unknowingly landed in Sidney on ANZAC Day and I think I was drunk for two days. I got drunk with a girl named Sidney for two days, how ironic
  21. QUOTE(shipps @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) So is DBAHO like shooting roman* candles? *I was wondering what he was doing after getting banned from here . . .** **About three people will catch that reference. Sorry for the narrow-casting*** ***Narrow-casting****, the opposite of broadcasting. **** Kenning, or word compounding. Popular in Anglo-Saxon poetry
  22. I thought Eddie Schwartz was back on the radio . . .
  23. Hint: It's like Cinco de Mayo without all the illegals
