QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 10:18 AM) Flattop Grill, the greatest meal ever! where? what is it?

We have threads for music and movies, why not a general food thread? I know we all love to eat around here, based, in part on the posters I have met, (not queenp) Btw, the Red Robin burger with the fried egg, amazing. Friends of mine talked me into it when I couldn't decide. That and endless french fries. Off my diet for the night.

If that is the worse he has ever "exploded" he is a saint.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 10:01 AM) Here is another log to toss onto the fire. Assuming he was probably drunk or high just like she was.... look what he said - that he poked her and she didn't move. Its possible she wasn't dead - she may have had a seizure and become clonic. They may have dumped in the sea while she was still alive. That makes it homicide. Anyway you look at it, adult supervision was sorely lacking. I can not think of a good reason for that many high schools kids to be in that environment. I bewlieve foreign travel is great for kids, but in smaller groups, and better supervision.

Shots fired in Harlem-Irving Plaza mall in Tinley Park
Texsox replied to sox4lifeinPA's topic in SLaM
I thought Harlem Irving Plaze was in Norridge? I worked at the Foot Locker there a couple decades ago. -
I am so happy to learn that our government is researching ways to make everyone's life better.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 09:19 AM) Not if they fed her to the sharks that she wanted to see so badly Actually finding sharks is not as easy as it sounds. Perhaps that is the case, but I doubt it. Plus, and Jim can correct me, sharks would not necessarily be attracted to dead food, they prefer alive and kicking.

But how/why do the actual dollars themselves move to overseas banks? Do we really have plane loads of geenbacks travelling?

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 03:05 PM) You know something that is really messed up. In that exact situation above you are responsible for any damage done by the vehicle after it is stolen and your insurance company will not cover it. If someone disagrees please do so as I have been lead ot beleive this is true. Depends on your coverage. I've known a couple people who have had their cars stolen, down here it's a big problem. One did not have full coverage and lost everything. When they found his truck, stripped, he got nothing. The other had full coverage and they covered the damage, which was mostly missing pieces that had gotten chopped. Glass, seats, and rims. YMMV, check your agent. BTW, his aftermarket sound system was not covered. I just remembered that.

It would be interesting to see a tide chart for the area, most of the time the body would have washed up on shore.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 09:06 AM) The dollar is the closest thing to a "universal currency" that exists in the world today. The utility of the dollar has a lot to do with it. You can spend them anywhere. The trade deficit is probably the biggest mover of dollars overseas. Right, and as long as they stay overseas and are not presented back, that's good for us, right? IIRC I believe that was Milton Friedman's theory? What I was wondering was how/why the actual physical bills get overseas. When one company pays another, it's typically a wire transfer, or in some cases paying their US subsidiary. Why would the physical notes be moved?
-
I was just watching a show on the History channel that quoted a figure that two thirds of US currency is in circulation overseas. Is all that foreigners working here and sending money back home? Anyone know? I know there is a huge demand for "greenbacks" and many are in private vaults and foreign banks, but how do they all get there?
-
basically they are paying for refereals for their ad words program. Not a bad idea.

I'm not so certain we don't win in '05 with Lee. But it's not worth debating. I'd say '06 and '07 would look better with Lee.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Jan 30, 2008 -> 02:36 PM) Honestly, I only use that phrase among friends. I have a feeling my adviser wouldn't find it nearly as hilarious as I do. . .I'm pretty cool for a linguist. Sad, huh? gee, then why did you use it here?
-
QUOTE(Soxy @ Jan 30, 2008 -> 01:21 PM) Because I need a job and PhD's aren't exactly in high demand these days. Actually PhDs are in as much demand as always, it's employment demands that are down. IIRC the number of students are doing just fine.

I was just thinking, when Clinton was elected, I was thirty or so, and after 12 years of Reagan / Bush, a sax blowing, Fleetwood Mac playing, President "my age" was cool. Now, we're getting tossed aside as old voting for his wife Maybe there is something to the age thing.

If you owned the theater and you had an employee who would be costing you money by attacking your customers, should you not have the right to terminate their employment? If a McDonalds employee followed someone out the restaurant and started yelling at them, it would seem reasonable to take action regarding their employment. She basically just pissed off your customer. That ain't cool. But your point is strong, and without the facts, we're just debating shadows which look different to you and I.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 30, 2008 -> 02:23 PM) I believe the Dem party is in a transistion phase from the old guard to the new. The San Fransisco hippies of 1968 are on their way out. This is their last shot. Hillary represents them. Obama represents the Gen X democrats and they will be THE force in the party after '08. It's just a matter if the hippies can hold the fort through this election or not. I think that is over simplifying things. What is also happening here is the old white guy guard, who has been pandering to women and minorities, face their first real test of faith. After decades of proclaiming, we're your party, old white guys have to actually share some of that power. That may be as big or bigger than the social, aged stratified groups.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 30, 2008 -> 02:27 PM) I don't know if that was the situation or not. All I know is she was 'on the street'. She had her daughter with with her and just may have come from home. Regardless, once she crosses that threshold and is off the clock, and if she's not wearing a uniform or something, she's nothing more than a citizen and every right to ask her elected representative a question about his policies. I would tend to agree if that was the case. But if she used her position to get near him, then it's a whole new ball game.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 30, 2008 -> 02:17 PM) She was on the Street! As mentioned, we do not have all the facts, but when has that stopped us before I understand that, but she just finished as her job, hosting him. I don't think you can just "clock out" and move 3" past the front door. The connection was from her job and it seems there is room there for abusing. Put another way, my employer's name opens doors. If I use that name to promote my own agenda, I would expect to be fired.

Standard political fare, made worse when it involves Hillary.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 30, 2008 -> 02:00 PM) I have a gut feeling he'll endorse Obama unless Hillary ... ummm ... scratches his back. There are a number of ways that parties keep their members in line. As you move up the food chain, you have less and less restrictions, but Edwards isn't the most powerful. He should be thinking about his next race and who will help him the most. Hint: It probably isn't Obama.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 30, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) She was at her place of employment, stuck a camera in the face of a politician, and then her daughter yelled at him. I can't imagine any place of employment that would take kindly to that. Bingo. I think you and I are on the same path here. There are certainb venues that I have to be very careful about what I say and do. Certainly a work function, while I am in uniform would carry different expectations than a public events away from work. If she was away from work, I agree with YAS's comments, but at work, different rules.

And I'm just seeing highlights and as we all know, there is always more to the story, it is never perfectly clear.
