Rowand out of picture
QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 10:02 AM) As I've said before, I'd love Rowand back but not at the price the market has set for him. Great point. The market has set the price. Hunter's contract was good for another $5 to $10 mil for Rowand and the others.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 08:56 AM) Hot toddys?!? You have really embraced being old as dirt haven't you? Helpin' a friend enjoy the spirits. And enjoying every minute of it. An old man needs his comforts. The only one I could think of was hot chocolate and peppermint Schnapps.

A Look at the Hunter "Courtship"
QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 27, 2007 -> 04:38 PM) I work in Indiana and pay Michigan state tax. Check with a tax accountant. State Income taxes typically are taxes on income earned in that state, not a tax on their citizens for income they earned anywhere. That is why the states refund the portion that other states have withheld. If your company is headquartered in Michigan, and they consider that your home base, and you are assigned a territory that is Indiana, it is in the gray area that hits pro athletes. Same thing happens on the federal level. I paid Mexico income taxes for my earnings in Mexico and was credited against my US income tax. Living in Texas I avoided any state issues.

2008 Hall of Fame Ballot
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 08:37 AM) OK, who voted for Shawon Dunston? I cannot fathom anyone voting for him. Tommy John? NYY, no doubt. Most seasons, most wins, best seasons, you name it.

New Cell Phone
Rex, you will find fans of each model you listed. Because using them for a phone is your first priority, see how they feel held to your ear. I made the mistake of buying an early "smart phone" and hated the too wide feel of the device when talking on the phone. I felt like I was holding a book to my mouth. I was using a Palm Pilot and was going to merge into one device. I'm back to two devices and am waiting for a form factor that I like.

Catch-All Anything Thread
^^ I would not necessarily discount a phone call, but in person is usually better. I would also plan on sending him a letter in early March, mentioning you are graduating soon, and exploring options and would like to discuss their summer plans.

Sean Taylor~~ Rest In Peace
My speculations seem so inappropriate at this moment. But the fact is the vast number of home robbers never carry a gun. That increases the penalty if they are caught. My prayers to his family and friends, especially his daughter.

A Look at the Hunter "Courtship"
QUOTE(Linnwood @ Nov 27, 2007 -> 02:20 AM) Hunter lives, as I understand it, in Texas. So it doesn't matter what the income tax is in IL or CA, as he wouldn't be paying it. (This is the reason so many professional athletes, as well as members of the military, claim Florida as home. They have no income tax.) Regarding the article, It bothers me how both the White Sox and the Rangers made concerted efforts to convince Hunter that they were teams that could win and would be good fit, and in the end Anaheim invited him to a fast food restaurant, threw a pile of money at him and said "So?" I'm just glad KW didn't try to out bid LAA. State taxes are decided by where you earn them. http://moneycentral.msn.com/content/Taxes/P112872.asp They can avoid some income taxes on endorsements and other off the field stuff, but he will be paying California income tax for his Angels salary, at least for home games.

There are some crazy expensive estate bottled tequilas that are unbelievable smooth sipping. I've been to a tequila tasting or two and really enjoyed myself.

Trent Lott resigning
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Nov 27, 2007 -> 02:30 AM) The person this really sucks for is the MS voter. He/she putt Lott back in for a six year term last year. If Lott was so bored with the Senate then, why did he want re-election? Things change in a hurry sometimes. With all these twists and turns I'm grabbing a bowl of popcorn and watching

A Look at the Hunter "Courtship"
The question I have is at what price could LA have signed him? They went to 90, 15 over the Sox. Could they have gotten him for 85? 80? 75? Seems like they left a lot of money on the table.
