  1. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 09:56 AM) The difference is their solutions related directly to the situation. With self help gurus their "solution" to any problem is to run across hot coals or broken glass. There is no scientific evidence that running across hot coals will cure your mental issues. It's just a cheap carny trick. And Robbins will agree with you 100%. The hot coals walk is to show you can achieve things your mind tells you is impossible. It is not marketed as a cure for anything.
  2. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 09:51 AM) Theres no hope for my pesky restless leg syndrome Of course there is http://www.mirapex.com/?sc=MIRMIWEBSEM0507_001 but it simply masks the symptoms, which is much more profitable than curing the affliction. Drug companies pour much more R&D into treatments for symptoms than to actually cure the disease, while giving hope to those afflicted that a cure is just around the corner, providing they will donate to XYZ Association.
  3. Boras, just by looking into an GM's eyes will hypnotize them and have them do crazy, stupid, things. Best not to ever look, no matter how tantalizing. Even Chuck Norris is afraid of him Boras has the same view of the relationship between a team and the players as the teams. The relationship is just temporary until something better comes along. There are no loyalties in baseball. Boras has an incredible winning streak going of getting his guys top dollar for their talents. In that path he has ruined some relationships and the Sox is one of them.
  4. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 09:30 AM) I dont think the motivation would as bad if it was being offered for free. A sports coach tries to motivate his players by pumping them up and its also only for an athletic contest. Robbins charges a fortune and makes hopeless people think they will fail if they dont keep paying him for their help. Tony Robbins thread anyone? Perhaps hopeless people should not be attending? It would be terrible if someone gave them hope. There is not an affliction that humans suffer that we have not exploited for profit. Hopelessly overweight? Call Jenny Craig Hopelessly single? On-Line to eHarmony Hopelessly tired? Get a new bed Hurt or Injured? Got Insurance? Don't like your nose? Call a surgeon By your definition because some overweight people believe that without Jenny they will return to being overweight, Jenny is bad or should provide her services for free?
  5. I have a friend who does not have much experience with alcohol so I'm learnin' her a thing or two. Great fun. I'm starting from her history with sweet white wines and domestic weak beers with salt Think White Zin and Budweiser Last night brought over Leinenkugels Honey Weiss Bier Now I've got to hide the salt shaker . . .

  7. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 07:57 PM) So it's ok to have people who are depressed, or having identity crisis run across hot coals and tell them their problems are solved? Not only that, but to charge money for it? Are you seriously comparing a mental disease to playing a football game? Not those that are depressed or having an identity crisis, they need professional help. But that is a very small percentage of his customers. I am comparing Robbins to a sports coach. He offers motivation, success tips, and a giant dose of confidence just like a coach. Same with Dennis Waitley, Og Mandino, Zig Ziglier, Norman Vincent Peal, Dale Carnegie, and a host of others. We accept that a football player needs a coach, why not a sales rep? A designer? a school teacher?
  8. The best Mariotti articles are the ones that are exactly what Sox fans are saying, then they scream that Mariotti is wrong. We also look for articles we agree with and call those writers the most astute around.
  9. I read where most of their "arrests" do not get convicted. I always wondered since they were showing up to meet someone who was actually of legal age, what they would be convicted of? The opposite would not work in court, hey I thought she was 18, so why would the I thought she was 16 work for the prosecutor? But these guys are scum and deserve the severe public burn they get.
  10. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 02:11 PM) I'd say selling false hope is much worse than selling tapes of girls who signed waivers to lift their shirts. I don't care what Joe did, but if his allegations are true, nobody should be defending these pigs. Corrupt cops and guards are criminals too. Not certain I would call it false hope any more that a NFL coach telling his team they can win a Super Bowl this year.
  11. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 02:22 PM) How many multi-million payrolls has Marriotti managed? How many contracts has he negotiated? How many payrolls has he met? It's easy to spend another man's money and talk about $90 million as if it's $90. That pretty much sums up a couple thousand posters here Sports would die if only those that did, could talk and predict. I think Jay is off base here. If published accounts are true, the Sox were in the #2 position and slightly ahead of all the known suitors. Even the Yankees do not get every player they want.
  12. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 11:06 AM) 2.5 times as good? Not even close. His numbers aren't all that much better than Linebrink's. Keep this in mind too - the Sox could spend this money on a setup guy because they have an elite closer for super-cheap. Most other teams can't do that. And, honestly, I think one of the reasons they did it also is they like having semi-reliable insurance on Jenks in case he gets hurt. Spot on.
  13. QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 08:19 PM) If the sox got either Crawford or Crisp, they wouldn't need Rowand, IMO. Owens would then hit at the bottom of the order, rather than the top. Rowand would be an improvement in 2008 over Owens. I think we would still "need" Rowand, but probably would not get him.

  16. Sometimes it isn't "the" guy that makes the difference. While some will claim the clairvoyance to know, but certainly Jenks and or Dusty were not "The" guy to acquire in 2005.

  19. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 09:54 AM) Tex, there are probably alot of teenage boys whose lives were made better (at least for a short while) by the GGW videos. Might be a close race! And then you have the marketing people who benefitted from selling the videos, the stations that aired the commercials, and his drug dealer. I hope that was in green
  20. How do we really end these wars?
  21. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 01:18 PM) I agree. If Rowand plays close to what he did last year in this market 5/60 is a total deal. He's younger than everyone else and shouldn't be completely horrid by the time the contract ends. I'd be a major fan of that move but I think the Sox have to make two moves (finding a leadoff hitter who plays left or CF and than a solid hitter that plays the other position). Too bad deals can't be put in place in order of need or Uribe would probably not have been signed.

  24. If you don't see a difference between Tony Robbins and this ass clown, which one would you rather see your mom appear with? Let's make a pile of people's whose lives were ruined by each person and see which pile is bigger. Let's see whose lives were made better, and see whose pile is bigger.
  25. It is the logical next step. The ultimate will be the Haliburton White House or the Taco Liberty Bell. How quickly we started calling it the United Center instead of the Chicago Stadium. Chuck Comiskey was replaced in a nanosecond. Depending on which is named, it may not be any big deal. I doubt One Mag Mile is getting changed anytime soon, but how about the Oakley Beach? The Linkin Park Meteora Zoo? Money it's a hit Don't give me that do goody good bulls***
