  2. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 04:45 PM) Nice in theory, but much work is left to be done to get into that position. Maybe Linebrink is a piece, but overall this team sucks. Our third-5th starters are Count, Floyd and Danks. While all have (some) potential, it's a very ugly rotation if these guys don't really step up. We also have no leadoff, no CF, questions at 3rd and 2nd and our proven good players are getting older by the day. Pretty accurate description. There is reason to be optimistic in a couple of those spots. I like Floyd or Danks to have a solid season. It is not crazy to think a healthy Crede will answer that question in a positive manner.

QUOTE(BigEdWalsh @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 10:22 AM) Gonna Rock Tonight - The Flamin' Groovies In the Air Tonight - Phil Collins I liked Welch's solo version until I heard his original with Fleetwood Mac. I think too many people do not know what an awesome band Fleetwood Mac was before the girls joined. I loved Rumours, but it just destroyed their old catalog. Same with the Bee Gees and SNF

QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 09:20 AM) Originally Fleetwood Mac (before Nicks/Buckingham), covered by Priest. This River Is Wild - The Killers Wild Thing - Troggs Speaking of Fleetwood Mac originals, Sentimental Lady is a far better tune by Fleetwood Mac than when Bob Welch essentially covered himself.

  10. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 08:51 AM) Who the hell cares what Rowand thinks. If he is that brittle emotionaly then I wouldn't want him here for 1 dollar. I believe the point is when Rowand is comparing his options, a team that always had him #1 may have an edge over the team that traded him and then put a lot of efforts into signing a different FA instead of him. Simple emotional decision. Believe it or not, a lot of people have pride and egos and like to be #1. Now a lot of people also swallow that pride if enough money is involved.
  11. Now that it is official, and he is not a Sox player, there is a thread opened in Trade Winds.
  12. QUOTE(G&T @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 08:18 AM) Score reports 5/ $90 million I now re tract any statements. Yuck. If the 5/$90 is true, I believe that moves Mr. Rowand into the $75 - $80 range. Hunter and the Halos set the market. And sometimes you win by losing. I would have liked to see Hunter in a Sox uniform, but I also would not mind Jones or Rowand. What would really be cool is the Brian Anderson that he thinks he is.
  13. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 10:49 PM) It is a crapshoot of sorts. Even the Angels released starting pitcher and head case Bobby Jenks..... fixed that for you. The Sox really took a chance there. Turned him into a relief pitcher than THE closer on a playoff team.

  15. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 08:29 PM) They signed him for sure, to a minor league deal. He was taken once before in a Rule 5, Dec. 2005 by Seattle from the Braves. Then, he was signed as a minor league free agent by the White Sox last winter. Further I would find it strange the White Sox would sign this guy to a minor league deal only to expose him to the Rule 5. If he were exposed, surely he'd be selected based on his play in '07 and his winter league performance. I do know Regier likes him and I don't think the $50k claim fee means that much to the White Sox. Hmmm ... thinking about this for a few minutes, here's what I think the situation is: There is a distinct difference between declaring as a minor league free agent (6 years) vs. eligibility for the Rule 5 draft (4 years for the sake of simplicity). Bourgeois was drafted in 2000 so that he was a minor league free agent makes sense. I do not think all minor league free agents are part of the Rule 5 pool. For example, there was a guy the White Sox signed every year to play in Charlotte, Ernie Young. Ernie is in his late 30's and every year for the last few he signed with the White Sox. But I highly doubt Ernie was eligible for the Rule 5, the Players Association would raise a ruckus about that. Based on that, I doubt Bourgeois is eligible for the Rule 5. In my take, he was simply a minor league free agent who chose to sign with the White Sox. I will close by saying I don't know for sure, but it makes sense to me. Ernie Young, Chicago guy. I wonder if he grew up a Sox fan?
  16. QUOTE(G&T @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 04:27 PM) Score just reported that th Dodgers may have offered Hunter a 6 year deal for over $100 million. Stress may have. I figured someone would go 6/15 and pray for a miracle. There is three shots out there and four or five teams gunning. If I was Rowand, I'd be waiting for Hunter to sign, that may make the likes of the Rangers and Sox getting a little fidgety. There is probably a formula for what Rowand gets based on Hunter's contract. Perhaps 75%-80%. But Hunter will establish the market for the other guys. If the report is true, those guys should kiss the Dodger's asses.
  17. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 10:06 PM) So I got a text while reading your reply, figuring its her. No, it's f***ing Jason. What a tease. I think I'm going to re-evaluate this after I get back from break...all this started the night we left. So Jas is dating your roommate?
  18. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 10:14 PM) Whereas, maybe you need to worry about other things.... Gage tribute post.
  19. What is nice about this is on past White Sox scales, this would have been THE move of the winter. Instead it's a small incremental one of about 5 or 6 that may happen. It's a blip past Uribe. I can't get too worked up either way. It's money and draft picks, too things I let the organization worry about. No players are leaving so hey, why not.
  20. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 09:46 PM) Heh, well... The first time she came over to our place, her and I started up this really indepth conversation about our lives, while my roommate kind of sat back. I've also gone out to dinner with her twice...they've yet to do the same. She told me she considers me her best friend, despite the fact that I've only known her a couple months, and as soon as she told me that, that's when the texts picked up. She probably tells me she misses me a couple times of day, and that she loves me. She also said she finds it really hard to be as open with people as she is with me. However, she really seems into my roommate, and they hump like rabbits. I dunno. I'm the kind of guy who's bros before hos. I haven't really sensed her being "into" me. It's just kind of interesting how it's unfolding. Kinda high schoolish. Oh, and she is good looking. A. Tell your buddy he needs to start seeing other people B. Start texting back C. Tell your buddy you're sorry, you didn't mean it to happen, she's insatiable.

  22. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 05:44 PM) This past week I went to a forum on the Iraq War. There were 5 professors at my school that talked about an hour combined, all of them not supporting the war and all of them making fun of Bush and one person even said, "I don't see parties as Democrats or Republicans, I see them as the party of life, or the party of death," and he for sure wasn't talking about abortion. It just bothers me because the university didn't get one single pro-war or conservative view point. There was one person that gave facts and everyone else mostly gave opinions about it. That's a shame. Worse is when the token opposition is so clearly mismatched, it's comical.

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 06:58 PM) The only job I had where I dealt with someone outside the US I was dealign with a French company. All the sales people I spoke with, and the contracts person and the 2 engineers that we spoke with to make sure the product met the specs we needed spoke English. Was that a good thing?
