  1. QUOTE(NUKE @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 11:07 AM) Honestly, I think Global Warming is a bunch of horses***. I think we should be more energy efficient, partially for security reasons ( we get too much of our energy from bad neighborhoods ) and partially because I think wasting resources doing things the old way when a better way is out there is much better. Reagan could have solved it by lifting his pinky
  2. QUOTE(NUKE @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 10:40 AM) Had we not been there with huge armies of our own, backed by nuclear weapons, then that would indeed have happened. Really? They wanted a war that would have killed tens of millions, and then gave up without a whimper?
  3. QUOTE(NUKE @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 10:21 AM) I know you are going for hyperbole but there's a lot of truth to that. You know the vast armies of the Soviet Union, the ones that Reagan told us were going to overrun Western Europe and turn the whole continent red? They crumbled before our very eyes without a shot being fired. Fixed it for you.
  4. She should have done this on youtube, built a following, then made millions with her website and TV deal.

    Momma's Advice

I just read this on one of my other lists and thought, why not a thread about homespun advice, I know Grandma FlaSoxxJim always had some neat stuff to say.
  6. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 09:26 AM) We were at the hospital this morning getting tubes put in our daughter's ears. all is ok.
  7. By JIM ABRAMS, Associated Press Writer Thu Oct 11, 5:06 PM ET WASHINGTON - A 17-year-old Eagle Scout wanting to honor his grandfather's "love of God, country and family" with a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol has helped remove a ban on the word "God" in certificates that accompany these flags. The acting Architect of the Capitol, Stephen Ayers, said Thursday he was revising guidelines on Capitol flag certificates because it was "beyond the scope of this agency's responsibilities to censor messages from members of Congress." Last week Rep. Michael Turner, R-Ohio, protested upon learning that the Architect's office had removed the word "God" from the certificate of authenticity accompanying a flag 17-year-old Andrew Larochelle of Dayton wanted to give his grandfather. The boy had asked that the certificate read: "This flag was flown in honor of Marcel Larochelle, my grandfather, for his dedication and love of God, country and family." But the Architect excised "God" from the inscription, saying it violated a policy, set in 2003, banning religious and political expressions on the certificates. Lawmakers, led by Republicans, have since demanded that policy be changed. The practice, House Republican leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, wrote in a letter Wednesday to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., "has rightly drawn outrage from the American people, who have grown weary of endless attempts by politicians and bureaucrats to bar the word God and even the most tacit references to faith from our public institutions." The flag dispute led off questioning at Pelosi's weekly news conference Thursday. "I don't think the Architect's office should be in the role of censoring what members want to say," she said. Ayers, in a memo to members Thursday, says that personalized dedications are permitted. No restrictions are named except that they be limited to 300 characters. These messages are added to the certificate of authenticity stating when the flag was flown at the Capitol. Turner said in an interview that he was asking the Architect's office to reissue the certificate for Andrew with the original wording. The issue was important, Turner said, because there are numerous references to God in the Capitol - from the morning prayers to inscriptions on the walls - and the Architect's policy was "placing all of these references at risk." The flag program began in 1937 and today there are workers from the Architect's office constantly raising and lowering flags, sometimes indoors as well as outdoors, to meet some 100,000 requests a year. The requests are made through member offices, and most lawmakers have instructions on their web sites on how to obtain a Capitol flag. Turner said that despite the rules change he was going ahead with proposed legislation that would permanently allow the acknowledgment of God in certificates accompanying Capitol flags. Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., is sponsoring an identical "Andrew Larochelle God, Family, and Country Act of 2007" in the Senate. Paul Larochelle, who made the flag request with his son Andrew, said he had spoken to his son that morning and "we're very excited that in our opinion we think the right decision has been made." He said his father Marcel, a veteran with strong religious convictions, "was originally very disappointed and actually saddened" by the dispute. ___ Turner's bill is H.R. 3779. 8. Speculating on the environment and peace. Many times more will die from poor drinking water than bullets. Perhaps the committee sees the cooperation between nations in preserving out planet as a means to world peace? I'm wondering if they are seeing a peace as something more than just the absence of war?
  9. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 07:08 AM) not the Gipper? Here's a couple ideas from another site to get the conversation started: And remember, Reagan wasn't about peace. He was the kick ass hardballer that could wipe out armies with a stare. Willing to kill millions if necessary, Not some pussy like we have today. Just ask Nuke
  10. I guess conservatives have never gotten over Reagan not being awarded one, so this will be predictable.

    Do I go?

QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Oct 11, 2007 -> 02:52 PM) This is totally true. Reagan was a good President, but the left wants to trash him every chance they get and the right wants to put him on Mt. Rushmore. I don't think most try to "trash" him. In fact I list him as one of our greatest presidents. But I also see some legacy issues that frighten me. The single most important thing he did was make Americans believe in America again. The second best cheerleader was Clinton. After the aging Reagan, and the grandfatherly Bush, (with his wife who looked like his mother), the youthful, sax playing Clinton arrives on the scene. We eat that stuff up and it shows in the economic numbers and everything else. The President as cheerleader is very important in my eyes. What Reagan left behind was the GOP trying to recreate his Teflon image by screaming media bias, and our love of debt. The Soviet economy crashed under the weight of debt, and Reagan is given credit for that, who will take "credit" when we collapse under the debt?
  18. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 11, 2007 -> 02:27 AM) I'm trying to recall any unusually muscular baseball players from the 70's. Any ball player who was juicing in the 70's was getting ripped off. Most of the time they are looking for an edge. So it isn't someone 100% bigger, maybe just 10% bigger.

  22. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 05:30 PM) So, I just bought a rabbit. I guess literally it's still a bunny. Anyone got any helpful tips? They litter box train very easily, that's good news. They also chew worse than any puppy. Be careful with anything they can reach. Rabbits are very cool pets.
