So who has played their last game in a Sox uni?
I'd take a Pods for Carlos Lee trade again.

GOP Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 09:15 AM) This is universally true - they all have some spin answer instead of just straight up saying "I don't know, I'll research it and get back to you". Thompson just hasn't learned that he has to have some generic bulls*** answer for everything, even if he doesn't know a thing about it. He will though, give him time. As I have posted before, I don't expect a candidate to know everything about every issue. (Cuban health care comes to mind) I also give a lot of slack for mis speaks and mis quotes. It's a long campaign for everyone, candidates and reporters. So I really appreciate him saying I don't know. But he will have to get up to speed. I think it would be a sad day if someone gets elected by not answering. I disagree it's generic bulls*** answers that the other candidates give. I believe it can be repeated from memory and they do not even think anymore. All the questions about this topic get the same response. For example, you could ask any question about MLB and the response will be, How about them Cubs! After the Red Sox, and White Sox have won, isn't it exciting the Cubs are in the race? The question could have been about a player, team, or stadium and the response is the same. But even with this, it says something about what the candidate believes that you do not get with a "I don't know". The more I've read about him, the more impressed I've become. He is a skilled campaigner and a good speaker, so I suspect he's going to make some strides here very shortly. And don't worry SS, I won't waste my time on your posts either.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 08:56 AM) I sold ads for a living. My bet is the sales guy just wanted to make the deal happen. Yep. And I'll bet ads this size don't drop in his lap everyday. It isn't like newspaper ads are a growing commodity. It's about the last media sales I'd want to be in.

With so many saves, which also means so many close games, we were really close to an even s hittier season. In fact it could have been craptastic if we didn't have a closer.

Johan to the Dodgers
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 08:53 AM) The Twins will be that much better just by getting rid of that dead weight joke Tori "Mr. Overrated who doesn't want to win" Hunter. He's such a loser and whatever team signs him will be disappointed. IMO if the Sox we're to sign him i'd have to boycott because they would be ensuring to be fighting the royals for the cellar for at least the length of his contract. Him and Johan ought to go to the same place since their both overrated and will never get a ring. Hunter because he doesn't want it enough (See Choking it in the playoffs every year on purpose because he's a loser) and Johan will never be on a good enough team. HUNTER IS A b**** AND SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO RUIN THIS TEAM! I'D RATHER HAVE OWENS, BA, and Sweeney then one second of Hunter the loser b****! Awesome. Wrong on so many levels, but awesome.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 08:42 AM) Like what, Las Cruces, New Mexico? East Texas is really pretty too, especially the Piney Woods area. I am thinking of a residential area up in the hills that I really liked. The area right on the border is very nasty, but I stayed with a friend who owned a nice home in a very nice area. He worked for a maquilla across the border. I also did some driving towards New Mexico and it was very nice. But you are right, New Mexico is much nicer in that corner of the world.

GOP Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 08:44 AM) The interesting thing is - if he doesn't know about an issue, he is straight as an arrow: I don't know about that particular issue, I will get back to you. There's no political stupid s*** answer like you get with every other candidate. I guess candor has lost all its meaning, or to say it another way, he's just ignorant and stupid. This wouldn't happen if he had (D) after his name, you can count on that. The liberal media covers for all those candidates.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 08:36 AM) Where would we be without our daily Fred Thompson update... He must really scare people because they are really after him right out of the gates. The liberal media has already picked our next President and perhaps Freddy is the guy that could wreck their plans. Or perhaps this is their plan, discredit him early to thrown everyone off, then get him elected, after all he did work in their industry. My head spins trying to figure out their evil plans.

Parts of El Paso are nasty, but just north of downtown are some wonderful areas and as soon as you leave the city, great places to visit. Dallas/Fort Worth is nice. I loved working and visiting the area. Houston is dirty and smelly from the refineries. I really enjoy San Antonio - the riverwalk is a great place to hang out, if you could get rid of the tourists. Amarillo, Midland/Odessa, Lubbock is a walk back in time. West Texas in general is the old West in a lot of ways. Some embarrassing red necks and I use that term specifically, no other way to give y'all the image. Kap nailed this one, Lots and lots of liberals for Kap to scream at My son attends Texas State University in San Marcos, halfway between Austin and San Antonio. Hill Country is incredible. With Texas being so big, and geographically diverse the cities all have a distinct feel. But I will eventually move to the Austin area, I just have to drop 50 pounds to fit in.

I just can't get worked up over the ad prices that were charged. It was a published rate, the only difference was they picked the date, a date it could have run anyways. If it was a weekend only rate and it ran on Sunday, that would raise more eyebrows. I'll also bet advertising has done this before for advertisers. And I would be more concerned if it could be proven the Editors where somehow involved. I also find it interesting that conservatives are quick to call Rush, and the rest of the GOP Radio Network entertainers and so much different than editorial content, then quickly claim no differences between paid advertising and editorial.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 10:28 PM) If they take anything but an olineman in the first round I'll throw up. In fact, I think they should take at least 3 lineman in the first day (one tackle and two guards...the tackle being the first rounder). I'd agree but it will depend on their draft position, if they somehow have a top eight or ten pick, I'd like to see a trade down and bolster the line, but if they can't move down, I'd go for a skill position.

IT'S OVER

I honor these people with my support, being certain they are not risking life and limb needlessly and working to bring them home as quickly as possible. As Kap as said, where the hell is personal responsibility? Tell the Iraqis we'll be back to rebuild when they can police themselves.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 09:40 PM) So I'm 100% positive I have a legit Jordan bball. However, somewhere out there 2 poor souls have a ball that is autographed by my uncle. I read a long time ago that if MJ had actualkly signed all the items people claimed he signed, it would have taken him 60 years.

O'Reilly Accused of Racism
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 01:12 AM) Oh yes, of course. my bad. They will admit that moveon.org got a price break that it shouldn't have, but they are using the standard excuse of "laziness and a simple billing error". I should have known better to credit them with any type of transparency. . Advertising is not an editorial decision. Do you think the editors look at the Macy's ad each week? So you're comparing a decision a sales rep made to Rush's comments? So Rush is equal to a sales rep for the NYT? OK, maybe we can agree on something.

O'Reilly Accused of Racism
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 10:06 PM) It was a political ad that the New York Times gave a massive discount to because they agreed with the politics of thus mentioned ad. That is an illegal campaign contribution. The times even admitted this after they got caught. None of the articles I found gave that explanation, do you have a link?

He does deserve a couple more starts, and of course it is impossible to say with certainty that Rex would have done worse or better. But as most people predicted, it wasn't much of a difference. And doesn't history tell us it rarely is that big of a difference?

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Sep 29, 2007 -> 11:59 PM) His dedication to poverty reduction on the government dime, you mean. How much has he donated to charity himself? That would be true dedication to poverty reduction. Maybe a sizable donation to help feed and shelter the homeless (that he helped to make with the subprime loans). It's easy to be compassionate with other people's money. A little harder to do so with you own. I guess that would be the donation to Habitat for Humanity

O'Reilly Accused of Racism
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 04:55 PM) So are you admitting that the Rush Limbaugh show and the New York Times have basically dropped to the same levels? It just shows the state of that once respected newspaper.... they should now be held to the same standards as a political shock jock. I thought one was a paid for advertisement produced by moveon.org and Rush was himself talking?? I guess I'm confused now.
