Maybe that is the past that surprises me, he has gotten worse. Perhaps it's a family trait. His dad just didn't run like someone who wanted the job.

GOP Primaries/Candidates thread
Let's give all the current taxpayers (i.e. voters) tax cuts and make the millions of new workers pay for them when we kick out the illegals . . . FREE MONEY WHOO WHOO I'll be quiet now. Balanced budgets are so old fashioned.

GOP Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 03:18 PM) Are you ready to go into the implications of taxcuts again? I think Tex has been busy enough in the other threads, he might have to give up sleep I should be clearer. I don't mind cuts, but there has to be cuts in spending. Balance a smaller budget and I would be happy.

Discussion Thread - NUKE's war diary
QUOTE(NUKE @ Sep 4, 2007 -> 01:13 PM) Honestly, I don't know why they replaced us in our old sector. We had that place pretty well locked down in the time we were there and then these chumps come in and now everythings all messed up. Kind of annoying if you ask me. That was a common complaint in Viet Nam. That and seemingly trying to hold territory at all cost, then walking away without a fight, days or weeks later.

I believe he was capable of handling the job. I liked his early cabinet choices, his faith based initiatives, and a few other things.

On the surface, and in general, I am in favor of not taxing investment income.

Senator Larry Craig convicted of lewd conduct in men's bathroom
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 01:34 PM) That Hsu thing is weird. I don't even understand it. Sounds like the kinda person they should throw the book at though. Lots of Campaign Finance mishaps going on. Romney's Campaign Finance Chair got indicted this week too.Link. The Club for Growth got pinched for a 350K FEC fine, and 11 Public Officials in NJ were arrested for bribery. Busy week for political cops. Another reason I am beginning to think public financing is better.

John Edwards - "Americans should 'sacrifice' SUVs for Env
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 12:36 PM) Hmm. Good point. Lets invade Mexico just to prove that we don't discriminate. Oh wait, they are already invading us! Your hyperbole is killing me. Seriously. I can't drink anything when I read your posts anymore, because they are making me laugh that hard. How far back do we have to go? It's a serious question. WWII? Are Christian countries just better? BTW SS, it was a post of yours months ago that pointed that out to me. I believe it was in a Rwanda thread. Funny that you would post that now.

For Dems only.
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 02:27 PM) Also, some parts of the Patriot Act were struck down by a U.S. District Court judge yesterday. And oh yeah, the economy is now losing jobs. Really not a good week for BushCo. Honestly, what went wrong for Dubya? As I've stated many times I really like the guy personally. I would love for him to have done well. Standing on that mound of rubble with the bull horn and he had America lock stock and barrel. Had he duplicated that with the hurricane, he could have rode another couple years.

Happy 5th Anniversary to SOXTALK!
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 02:26 PM) August 30, 2002 was the first date that posters were moved onto Soxtalk.com. It is amazing to think that this site went from 128 posters at Soxnet.net to approaching 4000 people, and over 1.5 million posts in that amount of time. You guys are the greatest, and this place is successful not because of the administrators or moderates like some sites think, but because of the people who post here. Thanks to everyone Just over half those posts are yours

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 12:35 PM) Could you give us any reasons as to why you could go gay? (liking my eyes is not a good reason) Hmm, good question. I'll avoid the stale jokes like I could be a lesbian, and because it would piss off Sox4LifeinPA

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 11:10 AM) Which is exactly why we don't need governmental health care, and other huge expenditures in the government's hands. That is a very good point.

John Edwards - "Americans should 'sacrifice' SUVs for Env
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 11:08 AM) Oh come on. Kap, when was the last time we bombed a Christian country? OK, upon further review, I'll retract that as hyperbole. But it is an interesting fact of who we bomb and who we send money to.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 09:41 AM) Some things are pretty common sense. If you lose more of your paycheck you spend less money. If everyone spends less money, the economy contracts. It isn't rocket science. If spending money is the key, then it doesn't matter who spends it, public or private. The government at least has restrictions and usually has to buy American. Of course, it doesn't buy votes, whcih is why some politicans love tax cuts. And common sense also tells us that those loans have to be paid back, with interest. An economy based on borrowed money, is at risk. Why you are in favor of giving yourself a dollar today, so that your daughter has to pay back $5 later, doesn't make sense. If we can't afford it today, what makes you think we can afford the bigger price tag later?

John Edwards - "Americans should 'sacrifice' SUVs for Env
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 10:51 AM) Wow, are you kidding? Seriously... OF COURSE they are left of where you are... because they are pandering to the fringe loony bins of the party to get through the primary. Now next spring, after the nominee is all but cemented, both sides will RUN to the center. It's pathetic, actually. Remember Kap, socially I am conservative, and I favor only spending what we collect in taxes (that use to be a GOP bedrock position), I am also in favor of restrictions on abortions and love my guns. So it is easy to see why many Dem candidates will be left of me. I also look at GOP candidates and they require me to love them exclusively and dislike the controls our Constitution places on them (Judges, Free Press). I'd also have to acknowledge the inherited superiority of old, white, guys. I'd have to love the death penalty, embrace killing people whose culture isn't like our own. So I am lost somewhere in between. . .

John Edwards - "Americans should 'sacrifice' SUVs for Env
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 09:36 AM) They have hit him hard on any mistakes he has made. To be honest, he is running his campaign too cleanly to beat Hillary. The only Dem who really could beat Hill is Edwards, because he isn't afraid to do whatever it takes to win. Hell he is an ambulence chaser for god's sake, how much more dirty can you get? He'll has taken the gloves off at every turn. His problem is that he abandoned the middle of the road that he held in the 04 election, and went way too far to the left. Hillary will beat him down because she will take everything in the middle. And the middle is where I want someone to be, but somehow they all seem left of me.

John Edwards - "Americans should 'sacrifice' SUVs for Env
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 09:28 AM) To be honest, the only top contender for the Dems I don't dispise is Obama. I do at least respect him. Richardson also seems decent, but he has zero chance at winning. I am not much of a Guiliani fan, but of all the repubs, he might be the most electable because he has some middle of the road positions. Romney has flipped flopped more than an IHOP, and the rest of them hardly merit a mention. Thompson is interesting, as he is really selling himself as a Reagan Republician, but I am in wait and see mode on him. I do wish more candidates had waited as long as he did to declare, but what are you going to do. That is pretty close to my asessment. Where's the beef?

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 09:06 AM) Again, I think this is the BEST candidate field I've had in my voting lifetime (first Prez vote: 1992, so admitedly I've only had 5, including this one). The problem isn't a lack of decent candidates - its that the WORST ones from each party (Clinton, Giuliani) are the ones getting all the press. They are high in the polls because of their name recognition - not their abilities. And that, I am afraid, is the fault of the voting public. It is the best field of personalities.
