  1. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 08:22 AM) If there are no small passages in the Bible, how do you square the omission and or subordination of the Deuterocanonicals and the so-called Biblical Apocrypha (including Tobit, Judith, Esdras portions of Esthera nd Daniel, Ecclesiasticus, Wisdom, Baruch, Maccabees and others) from various versions of the Bible? I'm, obviously, less suited to discuss the living, practicing, heeding-the-calling, aspects of faith. But I think you're assessment is quite good. I think PA responded better than I can on this subject. My hunch is also, too small for the Bible? I think we all walk our faith, even those without faith. Of course, we all have faith. The simplest example I give is we have faith that that driver in the oncoming traffic will not swerve and hit us.
  2. Here is the danger as I see it when attorneys are the first line of defense. If the case isn't profitable, it will probably have a lower chance of making it to court than an equally uphill battle without money. I prefer a system where attorneys and clients have a clear path to a judge, and that judge has an easy and cheap way to dismiss it. "Mr. Brown, I just don't see that you could win this case against the Topeka School Board".

Besides lining up like lemmings at the campus bookstore, what are other venues? Between my son and I we are looking at a sweet $1,000 next week in text books.

I'm drinking Bud Lite (left by a friend of mine) right now and texting. Maybe I'll find that bottle of sake I was hording and enjoy a sake bomb. Anything will help this Bud.
  5. OK, less sarcasm and snark. Of the thousands of issues that possible can come up, this is so far down my radar, it just doesn't compute. I would never ask any candidate for such detail. Like debates, these things don't come up in real life. What matters is his thought out opinions and the direction he wants to go. I think Moore's stuff is suspect at best and can't even begin to think that his work could be the basis of anything except Dem bashing. Moore is the GOPs wet dream.
  6. Zzzzzzzzzzzzz wake me up when Spring training begins.
  7. In researching health care systems around the globe, Cuba would be waaaay down my list. I see you are a big fan and it is a big issue. So which candidate has the best grasp of commie, third world, health care?
  8. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 09:38 PM) You also left out if the MSM doesn't break its back trying to help Moore portray the Cuban paradise as the mecca of healthcare, noone would give a s***. But that strawman won't work. He DID make the movie, the MSM DID hype the Cuban system, Edwards SAW the movie and said it was 'great', then proved that he DIDN'T know s***. whatever. I'm more interested in Iraq, Social Security, Homeland Security and the environment. So please pay attention to each candidates' knowledge of Cuba and keep us posted. I'm certain we can't live without a President with a thorough working knowledge of Cuba going in. perhaps watching that documentary would make you an expert and able to make policy decisions, but I would be frightened by someone who watched that and felt competent enough to make up policy. That's like watching an episode of the Simpsons and deciding on Nuclear Plant Operations.
  9. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 09:24 PM) Oh please. If Mitt Romney said that he had no idea whether Cuba's healthcare system is government run, YOU would be all over him. That is something simple that he should know. Healthcare in general is a huge issue. Edwards is an empty suit. If Moore doesn't make that film, no one would give two s***s about their health care system. What other third world s*** holes should candidates know about in regards to their health care systems? Peru? Guatemala? Find another thing, this one ain't got legs.
  10. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 09:19 PM) The fact that he knows as little about Cuba as he does is alarming in itself. I guess Cuba is a hot button topic for you. Which candidate has the best grasp of Cuba?
  11. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 07:50 PM) How clueless can he be? http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/20...ko-twister.html Seriously, how can you watch Sicko, and not know that Cuba's healthcare is government run? This guy is such an empty suit. So in the last week he got into name calling with Ann Coulter, got caught as a hypocrit with his direct involvement with sub-prime lending and now that he has no grasp on foreign affairs. I wonder if he even knows where Cuba is? And if he believed a Moore documentary, you would feel better about him? Can't win in this could he? If he said all he knows is what he saw in that film, you'd attack.
  12. Pet camel kills Australian woman while apparently trying to have sex BRISBANE, Australia (AP) - An Australian woman was killed by a pet camel given to her as a 60th birthday present after the animal apparently tried to have sex, police said Sunday. The woman, whose name was not released, was killed Saturday at her family's sheep and cattle ranch near Mitchell, 600 kilometres west of the Queensland state capital Brisbane, state police Detective Senior Constable Craig Gregory said. The 10-month-old male camel - weighing about 150 kilograms - knocked the woman to the ground, lay on top of her, then exhibited what police suspect was mating behaviour, Gregory said.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 04:08 PM) Wikipedia tells me (and I, believe it because it's on the Internet and therefore must be true) that in order to be a michelada, it has to have worcester and or tabasco in it. I dunno. My source is my bartender, and they are always right I've never seen Tabasco ™ brand used. It is usually a different chili sauce. There are differences, I can tell on my popcorn. Which btw, Tabasco on popcorn with a michelada is awesome How are you microlacerations? Do you need some microband-aids?
  14. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 12:13 PM) I heard about her, too. I hear she can bench press about 400 pounds QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 01:23 PM) I know I can't; how 'bout you? QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 01:37 PM) Suuuure I can... ...not all at once, though.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 12:47 PM) The carpet thing depends on the fibers. If the fibers are natural than barefoot is great, but if they are synthetic it tends to give my feet lots of microlacerations and socks are the way to go. microlacerations. wtf kind of board do you think you are posting at? Take those $$ words back to those PhD forums QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) I saw that when they introduced it. Ewww. Mostly because of the bad beer the recipe starts with. I'm not a fan of the tomato juice in beer thing, but I respect is as a regional variation on the theme. A traditional chelada can be good though and doesn't necessarily have the Clamato in it. The juice of one or two whole limes (depending on how much you like your limes) mixed with a Negro Modello or Dos Equis dark can be quite refreshing. Actually we call them micheladas down here and they are quite tasty. I had to get past adding anything to beer. Then ice and beer. But either with lime juice or bloody mary mix, they are great. I also prefer Sol or Pacifico when I make them.

Ketchup is not the answer, it's close, but not the best investment, the correct advice is salsa GEORGE: "Why don't they have salsa on the table?" JERRY: "What do you need salsa for?" GEORGE: "Salsa is now the number one condiment in America." JERRY: "You know why? Because people like to say "salsa." "Excuse me, do you have any salsa?" "We need more salsa." "Where is the salsa? No salsa?" GEORGE: "You know it must be impossible for a Spanish person to order seltzer and not get salsa. "I wanted seltzer, not salsa!" JERRY: "Don't you know the difference between seltzer and salsa? You have the seltezer after the salsa!"

  18. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 11:37 AM) Again, assbag of assbags. I think we have some good people trying to live up to an impossibly high standard in both parties.
  19. I was thinking about b****'s comments about the lawyer that made him puke in his mouth by filing a lawsuit. Just wondering, but is our system really better off if the lawyers become the judges too? Shouldn't everyone have access to our legal system? We should have a way for a Judge to quickly and cheaply dismiss a case, but I would be uncomfortable if we created a system where it was up to the attorneys to determine if someone has an easy to win case or not.
  20. Jim, While this wasn't directed at me, as usual, I will weigh in. For those that believe, there are no small passages in the Bible. The word of God does not have to be repeated a set number of times before it has value. I do agree that some people will cherry pick verses to fit their view of the world. We do that in all areas of our lives, from politics to religion. Next in this mix is the subject of witnessing, of bringing others to God. Each faith takes a different path with this, from those that will go door to door, to those with a more quiet approach. Of course, individuals take their own path as well. The most powerful example of that in my life was an incredible man I worked with who showed how much fun you could have and still look your Pastor in the eyes on Sunday. (Brian, thank you wherever you are, I miss you) So now we have people of faith who read the Bible and want to put their faith to work and bring others to Jesus. Some even believe they are commanded to do so. Some will quietly lead a life that encourages others to follow and still others will stand on a street corner and preach. I'm personally uncomfortable with street corner sermons and think they turn off more than they help. For others, they try for the easy sell. Taking two extremes, would be easier to tell you your life could be a little happier if you started going to Church, but your already a nice person and I'm certain God will accept you just the way you are, or tell someone they are going to Hell and need to change? Some opt for the going to hell route. And what are some of the quickest ways for a one way ticket on the long black train? Certainly homosexuality has become the new Communism. And people of faith are involved in many areas, and it's sad that a couple hot button topics steal all the press and form people's opinions. But each person gravitates to areas they are interested in. Human rights, abortion, capital punishment, living wage, health care, poverty, homosexuality, environment, immigration, etc. And every person will prioritize that list differently. Does God really care if Michael is homosexual? That is a question that I have not invested any time or effort to understand. I choose to be involved in different areas. My hunch is he cares that Michael is leading a good Christian life, including attending Church.
  21. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 02:31 PM) Happy Birthday, you big brown monoptic, ribbed, afghan dog-looking thing, you. idiot, it's a bird. But I guess you would have a problem identifying one of God's creations
  22. Happy Birthday!!!
  23. A few thoughts I am glad a major religion does not change easily. Our understanding of Biblical truths happens gradually and change must be done with great thought and not to bend to popular whims. I wonder why God would spend so much time allowing gay sex. I great deal of people are offended by the notion of homosexuality. It isn't that they are concerned about what others do, as Soxy mentions, but become involved when the issue is placed in front of them with protests, demands to allow homosexual unions, etc. It becomes a matter of public discourse then and people have opinions. Seismic shifts in our society do not occur without a great deal of debate, anger, and sometimes hurt feelings. When we are messing with eternal life, some people get really concerned. So I applaud the intelligent debate, no matter their opinion. I personally favor civil unions as the only legally recognized contract recognized by this country. Further, since we would be taking sex out of the equation, you should be able to form one of these unions with anyone you desire. Relatives for matters of health care, survivorship, etc. But one at a time.
  24. And because I have a great Doctor, I want choice left into the system for those that can afford it. As far as prevention and patient education, I think we need to expand the role of nurses and nurse practitioners.

Major props to Texas State University and their move in. Easiest ever. Pulled right up to my son's dorm, checked in took less than 5 minutes, lots of RA help, rooms were ready to go. From pulling up to moved in, including rearranging his dorm for bunks, less than 1 hour.
