Whenever a company asks if their products offers a good value for the money I always say no, that it should cost less. Why the hell would anyone tell them they should charge more??

Only chickens take strong stands, especially when it involves the Middle East. Men of courage and conviction would have just tried to appease both sides and not blame anyone. Gee, now I get it.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 07:20 AM) I'll say it another way. Some people choose to continue to make only minumum wage and bounce around from one minimum wage job to another so that they can stay on the "handout" rolls. And some don't.

Not going strange here but Stevie Nicks in Dreams from 1977

So *we* are dying (literally) to give Iraq back to the them. And it will be a victory when we are out?

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 11:03 AM) Agreed that it's a shame, given that his God-given talent allowed him to become the greatest position player of our generation. He was a first-ballot HOFer before he started using that junk. I see your point about his arrogance. Then again, I don't see how it makes him any more of a cheater than Sammy or Mark in their attempt to break Maris' record in '98. We will never know if he was a first ballot, or even a HoF, without using steroids. OK, he isn't any *worse* of a cheater than Sosa or Mac. And your point . . . ? The only point I could make out of that is there are enough to create a Baseball Hall of Shame

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 01:05 AM) The perception after Somalia was simple. If you kill Americans and draw blood, the american public will not have the stomach for it, and will want to get out. Its what our adversaries count on. This is why withdrawing right now is a bad idea. Somalia was *in* Somalia, did they ever attack us on soil other than theirs? Iraq is in Iraq. Perhaps the American public cannot stomach sending our kids to these places to die? I here the above repeated as if Tanzania will see this and march on Florida to take over the country if we leave Iraq. We will not be attacked on US soil from these countries, China isn't going to lob bombs at Oregon, We can leave Iraqis to kill each other and like Vietnam, our lives will go on just fine except we'll have a few extra billion to spend at home to build schools instead of rebuilding schools we've destroyed around the world.

Back on August 18, 1969 the all-time greatest cover of a patriotic song was peformed. http://tools.wikimedia.de/~gmaxwell/jorbis...ogg&wiki=en Now this has to be the all-time greatest cover

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 06:51 PM) Look, people. THIS IS NOT ABOUT GEORGE BUSH, HARRY REID, NANCY PELOSI or ANY of these f***tard politicians! We HAVE to win this war. If we left tomorrow, would it be a defeat? What events have to occur for it to be a "win"? How are you measuring defeat and victory?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 05:33 PM) Honestly, with a lot of these companies paying out tens to hundreds of millions of dollars in bonuses, there are probably a lot of college kids who could do almost as good of a job, to the point where the money they would cost the company would be significantly less than the difference in salaries between some random student and the $500 million CEO. I am thinking specifically to this situation. Their rates are lower than what free choice is producing in Texas.
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 08:54 AM) They're full of crap. The cleared 1B in profits in 2005 and 2006, they pay their CEO 27M despite being heavily regulated, and spend millions on these ridiculous programs. Plus, if they file for bankrputcy, they will have their internal operations heavily scrutinized, and I don't think they want that to happen. This is all a game of chicken with the Illinois legislatute, that's all this is. Its posturing, in order to prevent the legislature from freezing rates and to stave off open competition for as long as possible. I don't agree with the rate cuts, mind you - but this argument about going bankrupt is a steaming pile of doo-doo. The business model has changed for 2007. Y'all are enjoying electrical rates much lower than here in Texas, so if y'all want electric choice and what would be a 40% increase in your bills, I'll swap with you. CEO wages? Are you suggesting that since it is a monopoly that anyone could run it? Just hire a couple of college grads and say here's the keys? You have infrastructure to maintain and a myriad of other issues.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 07:17 PM) some one please correct me if I am wrong here, but sending in 20,000 troops to secure a SINGLE city seems a little flawed. That's like sending in the national guard to defend Springfield when Joliet and Schaumburg are getting attacked by insurgents. It just doesn't work that way. ONE city does not stabilize a country. Well we sent in 100,000 troops to one country to stop terrorism,in this country, so this seems just as logical.

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 08:19 PM) It would be great if they could help you out by dropping that rate a few cents, but I guess it is pretty important to fund that Mummy exhibition or the symphony. Hope you like ancient history and Bach! No, I have electric choice in Texas, ComEd is charging less *and* funding community projects.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 07:02 PM) At some point, isnt' that one just implied at the top? Like how the bestselling book lists always just have the Bible at #1 and figure there's nothing interesting about saying so every single week, month, and year, and then just leave it off the list? Each generation has to teach the youngins QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 07:10 PM) I agree about Mac's version being better. His solo version about made me puke back when it was being overplayed on AM radio. That would be on the second play. He also dropped a verse that completely changes the meaning and feel of the song.

The Top 12 Dark Moments in Music History (Part I) 12> November 3, 1987: Knowing how much her kids loved "Star Wars," a naive Tipper Gore rushes home with a newly-bought "Luke Skywalker and 2-Live Crew" CD. 11> August 16, 1969: At a party for her 11th birthday, Madonna Louise Ciccone is strangely unfazed when Vinny Martello stuffs two ice cream cones down the front of her dress. 10> July 18, 1966: "Let's let Ringo sing one. No harm in that, is there?" 9> September 22, 1968: Baffled by audiences' lack of enthusiasm about a deaf, dumb and blind shuffleboard champ, Pete Townshend heads dejectedly down to the corner pub. 8> June 3, 1958: In an attempt to impress his piano teacher, young Barry Manilow changes keys in the middle of his rendition of "Heart & Soul" -- three times. 7> September 2, 1997: Lou Bega finishes "Mambo #4," decides his symphony needs one more movement. 6> May 4, 1956: In Toronto, Neil Young's tonsillectomy causes no damage to his larynx, thereby not robbing him of his voice. 5> August 12, 1986: "Congratulations Mr. Hanson -- it's another boy!" 4> July 29, 1974: "Soup or sandwich today, Ms. Cass?" 3> November 8, 1980: Mark David Chapman can't quite scrounge up $50 for shooting lessons. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 06:41 PM) No it isn't. I'm still discussin'. Thunder & Lightning (Thin Lizzy) by Gluecifer Bad Boys (Twisted Sister) by The Mistakes Do You Love Me? (Kiss) by Noise Therapy Face The Day (Angel City) by Great White Well if you want to discuss some more . . . Refuge by Melissa Etheridge And a reverse cover by the same artist. Bob Welch when he was with Fleetwood Mac (pre Stevie Nicks era) wrote Sentimental Lady and it was recorded on the last album he appeared on. He later had a top 10 with the same song as a solo artist. While his solo effort sold more copies, his Fleetwood Mac version is waaaay better. We could go on and on about songs where the cover sucked, but I can't think of a situation where the cover was by the same guy.

Hendrix All Along the Watchtower End of discussion.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jan 9, 2007 -> 12:44 PM) I understand wanting a raise in rates since they haven't had one in 10 years, but must they be so f***ing greedy?! Why not phase in the raise in rates over time so we aren't slammed with a 26% raise all at once? Because then it is damn, they have had three rate hikes in five years, what the hell do they want? I noticed that no one there knows what they are paying per kilowatt of electricity. You will learn that when deregulation comes your way. Then you will be sweating over which company to go with, how long to lock in your rates, etc. Checking the ComEd web site, y'all can kiss my ass complaining about your pricing. Y'all are at about .08 to .09. In Texas, with choice, and without a regulated rate, the standard is about .15 with discounts from there to about .12. So even with the rate hike, y'all are still getting a bargain. And, it's all electric here. No natural gas. Heaters, clothes dryers, all run on electric.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2007 -> 07:54 AM) The reason their getting nailed by higher rates is because of a rate freeze they are coming out of, which didn't allow for smaller gradual increases. Now they are looking at bigger, more immediate increases. Its more of quality regulation at work. What are they going from/to? I was around .11 and saw a climb to .14 in the previous year.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jan 8, 2007 -> 07:16 PM) I never say "take a dump" or "take a s***" because you aren't taking anything. I fancy "leave a dump" or "leave a s***". I'll bet you never throw up either
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2007 -> 07:30 AM) I can't believe ComEd in the post Enron/Refco era is getting ripped for giving back to the community. This is how capitalistic corporate efforts are supposed to run, and now they are wrong for it? I'm with you. No one has posted their electric rates, that would change my opinion if they were insanely higher. But anything currently in the .14 range seems fine, and if they can do that ~and~ give a little back, I'm all for it.

QUOTE(soxwon @ Jan 8, 2007 -> 06:47 PM) my MMJB is in my c drive i keep all my tracks in mmjb, the externals for storage. i think ill put all my music in my c drive and keep backup in e drive sound better? Doesn't matter which you call which. Just make certain you are actually transfering the files back to the C: drive.
