  1. If we deleted all of Southsider's posts we could do this again in a year . . .

QUOTE(SnB @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 11:14 AM) tex = superDad My son started his first real job and missed the trip. Plus the Adviser's son became sick on Friday. So we took OPKs, as in other people's kids. But, thanks, I appreciate the comment.

QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 08:04 AM) On the way home from work on Friday evening I was sitting 2nd in line at a stoplight. The S-10 in front of me started rolling back. I honked. Honked again, but it was too late. She hit me. Probably not hard enough to do any damage, but I guess we'll have to pull over to find out. We make the turn together and she passes up the entrance to Walgreens and drives right by the next turn off. I flash my brights to her and she sticks her arm out of the window and flips me off! It's on now! I call 911 and tell the lady what happened. I'm hot on the "Perp's" trail and we're heading into a different town now. We get into the next town and get ready to turn south. There's two cops waiting for her! Hell yeah! We both pull over into a gas station and before I know it there are 4 squad cars in the lot with us. As I'm getting my drivers license, etc for one officer, another is talking with the lady. Next thing I know she's sitting in the back of a squad car. I thought that strange until "my cop" told me, "It looks like she's been drinking, so we're going to hang on to her." Whoa! Now the kicker: She had a 2 1/2 year old in the front seat with her. She was Grandma. A) small child in front seat - :headshake B) drinking and driving - :headshake C) d & d with small child - :headshake D) Hit & run with small child - :headshake E) flipping someone off in front of small child - :headshake The only damage to my Blazer was a cracked front license plate holder and my Sox plate in it had the corner chipped off. This chick's in a world of hurt now because she wouldn't pull over to let me see if there was any damage. At first I felt bad getting her in trouble for "Hit and run" when I figured there was little or no damage, but after finding out she was drinking and driving with a little one I felt good about what I did. It probably saved her, maybe not that day, but later in life.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 07:24 AM) I didn't do anything, I was sick most of the weekend. Stayed in and wasted time on the Internet. Did some laundry, dishes, and tried not to breathe on the kid. Sounds like your weekend was a LITTLE better than mine. I went from not wanting anything to do with that cave to really wanting to do it but had already committed to some logistics stuff. I was bummed that afternoon.

Left home about 6 pm Friday with part of my Boy Scout Venturing Crew. We had three guys, 16, 17, and 20, a young lady 16, and our Crew Advisor who lurks here, so I will not reveal her age, but she watched the last White Sox World Series and could have been watching the one before that. We arrived at Colorado River Bend State Park around 1 am in freezing temps. When we left home we were wearing shorts and it was about 80 degrees. What a difference 300+ miles makes. We cowboy'd up, grabbed our packs and hikes about 1 mile into a remote campsite. Grab a few hours of cold sleep before hiking back out and getting ready for a crawling cave exploration. While I chased around for some supplies we'd forgotten, the rest of the crew wriggled, squeezed, twisted, crawled, and slithered through a wild cave in the park. This was a physical and mental challenge as they went quite a ways underground without too many opportunities to stand. When they emerged a few hours later, we returned to camp and made a great beef stew and most of the crew grabbed a couple hours sleep at the trailhead. We finally hiked back in close to dark and sat around telling stories and taking an inventory of sore and tired muscles. Later we fixed some sandwhiches, soup, hot chocolate, and were asleep very early. At day break the advisor and I packed up and hiked back while the kids slept a couple extra hours. That gave us time to explore some springs and water falls in another section of the camp. The views were wonderful. I really wanted to continue on the trail, but wasn't prepared for a longer stay, and we needed to get back and see if the crew made the trailhead and had breakfast finished. They did, and after packing and changing we hit the road for home. We decided a side trip to the new Cabelas store near Austin was a good thing and pulled into the parking lot with about 4,000 other cars and a sea of burnt orange. Seems that a certain Rose Bowl Trophy was on display. The UT fight song could be heard a 1/4 mile away. The Jeep with the longhorns was outside for photos and there was a long line to view the Trophy and have a picture taken. Dinner was at Cracker Barrel and we finally returned back home around 10:30 pm. Watching these kids overcome some natural fears, watching them display excellent outdoor skills in setting up a backcountry camp in the middle of the night, and showing so much confidence in anything that was thrown at them really makes a Scout leader proud.

  10. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 6, 2006 -> 04:12 PM) [OK, here's where I fling s*** like the higher primate that I am] There are some folks who were at Sabra and Shatila that are probably thinking that. There isn't a major world leader that someone doesn't think should go to hell. I am certain a few Iraqi's wish that of Bush, The Pope has a ton of people, we have a few people here that would like to see death for all Palistinians, etc.

Somehow we need to delay republicans and keep them in the bush-es. Maybe we could chain-y them up?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 6, 2006 -> 11:38 AM) Is anyone else really annoyed how any statement that any government agency wasn't doing a wonderfully perfect job is immediately translated into Oh those people just hate Bush? The Government seriously can do no wrong for these people with Bush in office. Or it's a biased media, or activist judges. Brilliant strategy until people begin to think for themselves and realize that neither party could possibly be that right all the time.
  13. QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Jan 6, 2006 -> 10:22 AM) I hope that you're not implying that Sharon is going to Hell! If so, contact me privately...I don't want to get banned like my brother. I was suggesting I was going to hell for laughing at the "who could have seen that coming" comment. Definately not suggesting Sharon was going to hell. Sorry if anyone thought that.
  14. http://www.suntimes.com/output/football/cst-spt-dungy06.html I am amazed that more people don't know basic First Aid and CPR. Almost every University offers free or very cheap classes. The Red Cross and many employers have programs.
  15. I think you do have to factor in the stage and what was at stake. Yes, you can have great mid season games, but when a National Championship is on the line, and clearly the two best teams in the country are playing for it, and the underdog wins in the final seconds, that has got to add to the "immortality" of that game. What I think hurts the game was execution was not even close to perfect and you didn't have a classic great offense vs. great defense type story line.

I love the conclusion. I am also glad we didn't try to domesticate giraffs. I have to believe the poop is huge and who wants to heat tall ceilings like that?
  17. Of course our rights come with a price tag. Get rid of Miranda and Search and Seizure laws and more criminals (and innocent people) will be off the streets. I am certain, and I am using an extreme example, the Gestapo and SS could show how their tactics saved lives by getting criminals off the streets. But that isn't America and it isn't what generations have fought to preserve.

I was looking at some murder stats and it seems plus or minus 18,000 people are murdered each year in America. How about publishing that story like they do the Iraq totals? That works out to about 50 per day.

I was thinking instead of creating new threads, we could group Iraq news and discussion into one thread. http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/01/06/...main/index.html I wonder how many Americans were murdered here in America yesterday?
  20. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 11:24 PM) Well your a Texas fan so a course PSU/FSU isnt going to be as good for you.... But you don't even think it's a top 25 game?
  21. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 11:06 PM) Yes, a stroke for a 5-9 man who weighed nearly 300 pounds and was something like 77 years old. Didn't see that one coming. Going to hell but LMAO all the way . . .
  22. Both teams played to form. It was one of the few times the game lived up to the buildup.
  23. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 10:54 PM) There's a nice warm place waiting for asscracks like this. As I was reading both those articles, I realized I can't relate to such stupidity and hate. Especially the hate. I remember having some respect a long time ago for Robertson, at this point, he's one of the bigger idiots around.
  24. Linked PLUS Nice to see a former GOP Presidential candidate and Iran's President are united. Wow, this makes me so sad for humanity.
