QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 08:51 AM) Did you know that John is alluding to the song's protagonist burning da b****'s house down in the last verse? It's true. Come on Paul Harvey, let's hear, the rest . . . of the story
  3. QUOTE(juddling @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 08:24 AM) It seems the minority parties in Iraq have learned something from America: when the election results don't go your way, claim fraud, harrassment, etc. I doubt the Iraqi's have figured out fraud and harrassment this early in their democracy

  5. I don't have a problem with that at all. I believe one of the most important role our leaders have is to be cheerleaders. Reagan came at a great time, the hangover from Nixon, Vietnam, Carter, Ford's WIN, etc. The comes in, riding a white horse, and cleans up the world with a smile and a nod. Clinton was blowing a sax, shaking off the President as old guy image, Bush comes flying in on an aircraft carrier, I love all that stuff. People feel better, the work harder, and it really does help. Clinton's "I feel your pain" was brilliant and he pulled it off well, and people reacted. After 9/11 I thought Bush deserved high a marks, not as a manager, but as a spiritual advisor, source of comfort, and cheerleader. If the pr flacks can help that, go for it. For the same reason I was dissapointed in Bush during the hurricanes. I thought he's be at his absolute best for the country. I wanted to see him with rolled up sleeves, jeans, boots, and helping. I know it would have only been for a few seconds, he's stop when the cameras stopped rolling, but I'd remember that and feel better. He would be emmulating the behavior and offering up a model. A politician has to ask, what's the best thing to do here and now in this crisis? It may be to grab a bag of sand and place it there. It is probably better to encourage a thousand people to grab a bag and place it there. That makes much more sense than just placing one bag annonymously. Everything a leader says and does is important in the time of a natural tragedy. We want them looking and acting in a manner that helps. So if wearing jeans and scooping some soup for the homeless helps, then do that. I think too many people underestimate what feeling good about the future and feeling good about America does to the economy, crime rates, and everything else. Our best Presidents make us feel good about ourselves and America. There is substance to emotions.
  6. We know this whole tack it on is a bi-partisan ploy. But it is a gross misstatement that by tacking it on and needing 60 votes it somehow made it more difficult or even wasn't trying to subvert is a joke. By tacking it on to something that had to be passed, they made voting against it almost impossible.

  8. QUOTE(SoCalSouthSider59 @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 12:21 PM) Cool Arnie........ I wonder if the next condemmed inmate to be executed in Cali, next month i think, will get the same buildup by the bleeding hearts and useless actors as ol' Tookie was. He's white, very old, and has a number of medical conditions, including near blindness. Somehow i doubt it very much, and Arnold will reject his plea for clemency as well, as he should, time for this cat to meet his maker too.......... Wonder if Mike, Susan, Jesse, Al, and Najii will stand up for him.......... :headshake Human live is so worthless. How could we possibly go wrong by killing people? I still find it laughable that GOPernauts that don't trust the government to treat their colds with a national health plan, feel that same government is perfectly capable of deciding which citizens should live and which should die. We should have an abortion jury. Allow any woman who wants an abortion to go before a jury and explain why her fetus should die. If they vote blood, kill the baby. Because GOPernauts support the governments right to kill anyone for what they decide is a death penalty case.
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 06:46 AM) After missing a full season maybe he just wants to get started early? sounds good to me, I still am thinking pr move. Spring training is already long and the drills and schedule are in place for pitchers and catchers. Maybe Jim is going to be the backup to the backup to the backup catcher I just don't think it is all that earth shattering. I do agree it is a lot better than the opposite and reinstills the image of a great team player.
  10. If he is 100% healthy, a player with his resume doesn't need the extra spring training time. Nice pr move or hint of a slower recovery? I'm hoping its PR.
  11. It is a nice article but soon some people will jump in and point out all the negative b.s. about Hawk and Tony, Belle, umpire confusion, and other stuff. If this was Mariotti, it would be trashed. It is never what is written, it is always who wrote it.
  12. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 12:36 AM) If this was 1995, there would have been impeachment proceedings pending right now. I felt they were wrong then, and I would feel the same party politics stain on these. I also feel Californias law to reverse any election at any time with enough signatures is wasteful. I believe once someone is in office, it should take more than what I've seen from Bush or Clinton to drive them out.

I'm thinking of some ways to redecorate the new forum and I thought pinned threads for the left and right to celebrate or lick wounds together, without the "other" side, would be nice.

  16. QUOTE(mreye @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) That was Tex spamming! Hell, if Jas is going to name the forum for it, I figured we should know what the hell one is. All I know I learned on West Wing
  17. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 11:57 PM) 2008? I seriously doubt he'll be up for parole that soon. No silly, that would be Slammer Time 2008
  18. I love The Hammer Hammer Time 2008
  19. My take on media bias. If YAS and I both sat down to watch a perfectly nuetral newscast. He will think it has a liberal bias and I will think it has a conservative bias, and we will both be right. We will both pick a couple stories that were written in a manner that would seem to favor one side. I'm not certain, and no one has really tried to explain, what an unbaised newspaper looks like. As soon as a reporter sits down to write a story with say 25 "facts" he has to put them in order. Bingo bias. Doesn't matter left, right, or middle. So of one article can't be unbiased, how about if that newspaper for the day is balanced? Year? How about if the WSJ and the NYT both have widespread circulation, do they unbias each other?
  20. The administration should put together an enemies list and check it twice each day . . . BTW, IMNSHO, Bush should not be impeached for this, so far. I think we are far better off with him in office, than dragging through the hearings.
  21. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 01:50 AM) Since our search engines are still (for whatever reason) disabled, I was hoping someone could assist me with this issue. Earlier this evening, I bid on a DVD set intended as a Christmas present for my older brother. This relatively unknown TV series was available in a DVD set featuring 72 episodes. The price? 29.99. I placed a bid of $30.00 and assumed no issues would present themselves. And why should I have? DVD set was guaranteed to arrive within several days, there were 4 items of the same product available, and only two (including my own) were displaying bids. The aforementioned bid dated back several days. As soon as 20 minutes before the auction ended, the status of the four items didn't change. Two items were bid on, two weren't.. I left my house assuming a victorious bid. Return home half an hour ago, absolutely stunned to discover I had been outbid 5 f***ING SECONDS before the auction was terminated. Immediately following this revelation, I sent the asshole a scatching message telling him there were two other items available for him, and he ruined my Christmas with his bulls***. Yes, a bit dramatic; but it completely derails my Christmas. Now I have to battle the crowds, horrendous Chicago weather, and literally search for a present. What this event taught me is never to assume anything relating to EBAY. You can't expect to bid on an item, no matter how obscure, and not expect some mo-mo to ruin your day. Now, I will become one of these people. If anyone is aware of the link to an automated EBAY list, I'd appreciate it. You do realize even with a sniper program, if someone bid $31 you would lose? You actually lost because someone bid more than you, not closer to the deadline. Shill bidding is one of the few areas that eBay watches closely, and acts quickly to stop. They watch for losing bidders matching up to a specific seller.
  22. QUOTE(The Critic @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 07:12 AM) Trust me, if I even TRIED to build anything myself, one of three things would explode: My head The thing I'm trying to build or My house I am all thumbs, and even my thumbs are all thumbs! Plug and play is the only way!! It really isn't that hard, and I recommend anyone who uses computers regularly to build at least one. I'm a big fan of Newegg for components. My son and I build his last year, and he now knows more about hardware than almost any of his classmates.
  23. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 11:46 PM) Nothing pisses me off more than some random asswipe that I don't even know coming to my house and pissing on my truck in the middle of the night. I tried to hit just the tire, sorry dude
