Take All Your Political Talk
There are just a couple more things until it feels perfect. But this is a great start.

Defiant Bush admits breaking law
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 02:56 AM) Once again APU is whining about his rights being violated. The government doesn't give a flying f*** about Joe Sixpack, Would they have gave a flying f*** about Ted Kaczynski, Terry Nichols, Tim McVeigh, etc.? Or are they Joe Soxpacks? Once the government decides who is guilty until proven innocent, then we open up on nasty can of civil right violations. Y'all can give back rights and freedoms, I'd like to keep mine.

Another reason I dislike politics
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 08:19 PM) This was disgusting to wake up to. And I am very disgusted with the Dems right now because they could have made a stand and voted down the bill as long as it had the ANWR provision in it. A revised version of the bill without ANWR in it then would have been brought to a vote and could have been passed. Then they would have been accused of flip flopping and not supporting the Troops.

Amputee vet running to replace Hyde in Congress
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 01:28 PM) Rex, look at the damn article that started this thread. It MADE A POINT to talk about the amputee part. If she's so damn good as a candidate, why even talk about it? Ohhhh, because they have to so that she's more appealing. Come on. It's too obvious. And I'm not trying to mock her. I appreciate what she's sacrificed. But she was 100% recruited on appeal, not her beliefs. Kap believes what he reads in the biased newspapers? That's a switch. The GOP only picked Bush because he was religious. Let's find some articles that lead with that. Nope, The GOP only picked Bush because his Daddy was President, let's find an article about that. I can't believe y'all think the Dem party, or the GOP for that matter, would think that just finding a vet without legs will win an election. Each seat is important, too important not to try and find the ideal candidate to win the election. If she can't articulate, can't debate, can't demonstrate the skills to win, they aren't going to spend the money to try and get her elected. And a big part of both parties natinal and local organizations is to seek out and recruit qualified candidates. Do you really think both parties just wait and see who raises their hand to run? Besides fundraising it's the most important fuction the parties do.

Another reason I dislike politics
QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 05:09 PM) As long as you are not pretending that this is a Republican-only trick, I agree with you. Both sides do this, it sucks, and is the best reason ever for a line item veto for the President. This is a bipartisan technique. Part of the problem is one side doesn't trust the other. So a sneaky you vote for this and I'll vote for that becomes a I'll just tack it all together and we'll vote on it at once. Ugly, b.s. and the voters go along with it. When we here that so and so didn't vote for something, it may be because of something tacked on. We all should find out "the rest, of the story".

Another reason I dislike politics
Why did the GOP attach the Artic Drilling, hurricane relief, and bird flu, to a defense bill? Because anyone who voted no, we be accused of not supporting the Troops and flip flopping. There outta be a law that eliminates adding unrelated items to a bill.

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 10:13 PM) In the right hands, yes. But I have heard some bad bagpipe playing in my time, and it is not pretty. The first time I heard he as going to play, I cringed, expecting the worse. The range of sounds a good bag piper can produce is actually rather impressive.

Defiant Bush admits breaking law
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) So he's just being a f***ing asshole? That's it? No other reason? Conversation's over, I think, because that is what this always turns into. (paraphrasing)... George Bush did this because he's a f***ing prick asshole who takes a f***ing s*** with the US Constitution. No other motive, just wants to piss and s*** on it. (end) As I said, I'm not sure what to think yet, because truthfully I haven't read up on it (been away a lot)... on the surface, it's BS... but I'm really disheartened by the rhetoric that says he did this for NOTHING but to be a dick against the US Constitution. You are usually the first one to list f***ing asshole and Bush in the same sentence. :headshake

Defiant Bush admits breaking law
Kap, we can always come up with a scenario where we would give up every right and freedom we have. We could get rid of probable cause, we could make everyone guilty until proven innocent, we could profile and round up anyone that matches that profile, we could round up every gun in America and execute anyone caught with one. Any of those scenarios would be plausible if it would save your life, your wife, or your soon to be baby. But that isn't what makes America strong. It isn't the beacon we shine to the world. It isn't the America we cram down the throats of any country we can. I'm thinking out loud here, but somewhere there is a lesson and inspiration in that tens of thousands of American soldiers have died to preserve these freedoms. Are we spitting on their graves to give those freedoms up so easily? They are heroes and we are the weakest, spineless, ungrateful citizens that inherited those rights and freedoms.

Christmas Songs
QUOTE(Soxy @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 03:39 PM) I *love* singing Silent Night at the end of the midnight service in darkness with all the candles flickering.

Uncommon Prespective
People were saying the same thing about Konerko up until he signed his contract. I am not convinced that Garland will not sign. By trading him, he are getting rid of a player who is entering his prime and could be part of a tremendous pitching staff that would rival the Braves of the 90s.

Uncommon Prespective
QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 08:29 AM) Wouldn't make a difference since we have 5 other starters, all of which are either on the same level or are better than Garland. It would just help rebuild our farm system which was taken apart this offseason, and get the most value out of Garland, who isn't going to resign after the 2006 season anyway. I disagree that BMac is on the same level as Garland. We've seen Garland develop into a major league pitcher. I think he is far more likely to win 15 games than 10. I watched as this staff went into season after season with 3 or 4 solid starters and a prayer. Far better to have 6 or 7, Cotts may be ready as well, is much better for winning today. If the reason to trade Garland is to avoid losing him with zero compensation, then reluctantly I could see the logic. With the improvements in the offense this offseason, I would prefer not to take a step back in the cornerstone area of pitching.

Defiant Bush admits breaking law
QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 09:47 AM) Which one? The National ID card or the Devil's advocate post? (I'm 100% serious about National ID cards!) Devil's advocate. I'm still concerned about potential abuses of the national ID card, but leaning towards believing they are a good thing, or at least necessary. What worries me is the potential for abuse. As long as it isn't much more than combining a Social Security card, with a driver's license, and a Passport, I'm ok with it.

Defiant Bush admits breaking law
QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 09:12 AM) I agree with you. But I do agree that we need a National ID Card, though. I don't see that as an invasion of privacy, (as does the ACLU). I assumed your post should have been in green for sarcasm.

more media nonsense
Politicians are getting elected by spending more and taxing less. Imagine our joy in learning we can cut our taxes, spend at record levels, and someone else will pay the deficit, with interest, instead of us. :headshake

Defiant Bush admits breaking law
QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 07:48 AM) I guess the only argument (to play Devil's advocate) is...if you have nothing to hide, why worry about your phone being tapped? :banghead And if you have nothing to hide, you wouldn't mind the police dropping in at 2:30 am to search your house, to listen and record your every move, to follow behind you and track what movies you watch and what books you read. You wouldn't mind not speaking your mind. All the rights we could give up because we are innocent and want to prove it. Guilty until proven innocent? What a crock in these dangerous times. We all are guilty, now prove your innocence if you have nothing to hide. When we voluntarily give up our freedoms and rights, then the terrorists can't win

Christmas Songs
I have a new love for Little Drummer Boy. And While perhaps not a true Christmas song, Greensleeves is a favorite. And Mary's Song by Amy Grant feels great late at night gazing at the Christmas tree.

Uncommon Prespective
QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 08:06 AM) I said in that quote that he proved that he was a starter rather than a reliever. I didn't say he was a proven starter. As I've said before, since trading Garland would likely be for prospects, we would get prospects which a team would give up for a #1 or #2 pitcher, which Garland is not IMO (until he does what he did last season consistantly). According to various quotes, KW has been asking for a lot in exchange for Garland, which is very encouraging. Would that help or hurt the teams chances in 2006 to repeat?

Uncommon Prespective
QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 17, 2005 -> 07:03 AM) Brandon McCarthy proved that he's a starter last year, and if he starts this year off in the bullpen, its a real shame. Yes, you said he was proven. At what level? Above or below Garland? And if we trade Garland now, would we get a player who is also at an All-time high, or someone whose value has dropped off?

TV News: What Are You Watching?
Earth, Wind, and Fire Tribute on Ice Somewhere a while back someone got the idea to do an EW&F tribute. But someone else thought it was missing something, maybe we could get figure skater Brian Boitano and some others to skate to the tunes. They got SC Johnson involved and viola, a McCormich spice logo under the ice, EW&F on a stage, and the most bizarre TV special ever was born. I can't believe I actually watched three or four songs. Which brings me to another thing. One song, commercial, another song, commercial, song, commercial. Amazing.
