  1. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) I'd like to buy the USA a fence for the southern border. Great idea, I'll buy the gates.
  2. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 12:13 AM) Must. . . resist. . . BJ joke. . . BJ and solo too close together in that post?
  3. I watched in agony as my parents dealt with the death of my brother in a traffic accident. As a species we are not equiped and prepared to bury a son or daughter. It is not the cycle of life we expect.
  4. I am glad we are keeping this real. I would have loved to give my favorite city, my hometown, the gift of a World Series Championship, but they already have one!!!!!! God, I still love saying that. In the next layer of not realistic, there are some great kids that I have had the pleasure of being their Scoutmaster for 5 years that I would love to be able to write a check for their college educations. One in particular has a gift with animals and our world will be a better place with him as a Veterinarian. If I could give him the gift of an acceptance letter to Vet school and pay for it, I would be a happy man. (Vet school is harder to enter than regular medical school) A little more doable, but still not possible, I would love to give to the Scouts a Chapel at Camp Perry. Ours was destroyed over a decade ago, and the funds have not been found to build a new one. We have a couple locations that would be ideal, but there have been other projects more pressing. Closer to home, I would love to buy my son a car. I have a good friend with a special wish this Christmas, who is moving heaven and earth to make happen. I wish I could offer more support and help. And finally, I'd like to buy the world a coke and keep it company
  5. My heart and prayers go out to the parents. I can't imagine the agony they are experiencing.
  6. QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 12:43 PM) Linder? Linda McCartney
  7. QUOTE(farmteam @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 09:33 PM) Perhaps something along the lines of "Most Closed Discussion Topics Started". Unless that's already there and I'm forgetting about it. LOL, PM me with your nominations.
  8. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 06:55 PM) いかに言うか。 um, muligan please??? (muligan UM か。) Anyone that put that much effort into a post should be immortalized with a POTM Note: Weird enough, my Firefox spell checker actually offered suggestions for the Japanese characters LOL
  9. Thanks for the reminder. I will get started on them soon and we'll have the polls set up before Christmas. Any suggestions for additions and subtractions from the categories?
  10. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 09:09 AM) You people are advocating coddling when you say we cant use harsh methods to extract information from these people. If Im not mistaken under international law all an interrogator can do to a suspect is talk to him and nothing more. I fail to see how beating information out of a terrorist can be equated to cutting off someones ear or dipping him in acid ( yes Hussein did that ) or to performing medical experiments on people ( Hitler/Mengele ). Nuke, I don't believe that that is the limit under International law. But for the sake of a question, how do you justify the US breaking International Law? We are suppose to be the standard bearer of decency and human dignity, can we really say one thing and do another and have any credibility in the world? BTW, check out this link to a recently unclassified Rummy memo. http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB127/03.04.16.pdf There is a lot they can do.
  11. I heard he was discussing politics on his favorite baseball site
  12. This is exactly why I will never question or blame a player for packing his bags and leaving via free agancy. Konerko spoke about wanting to be a Sox player until he retires, what a joke. It is a business and it's a business for both the players and the owners. Sad, sad, day.
  13. It's been around for years but always my favorite
  14. QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 12:22 PM) Post-Beatles McCartney too! :puke you don't like silly little love songs? By the way, what do you call a dog with wings?
  15. 12 reliever for the 9th position player. Not all that earth shattering. It does make the team better by a little bit. Is it the missing piece to a 100 win season? Nah
  16. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 08:51 AM) We dont have to coddle terrorists to prove we're better than anyone, they do a great job of that for us. So anything less than the Internationally recognized boundaries of torture is coddling? Please explain? Who is advocating coddling? Everyone seems to be saying stay on this side of the line, don't become Hussein, Hitler, Mengele, etc. As the beacon of human rights and freedom, don't we have an obligation to observe international law? What message are we sending if we stoop to the same level of evil as those we are fighting? How can we set ourselves up as the shining example of a society and break International Laws? Do everything allowed under International Conventions, International Laws, and US Laws. Nothing more, sometimes less if it serves the purpose.
  17. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 08:25 AM) Spare me. Next thing you know people will start saying we're torturing them cause we're not buffing their nails and feeding them bon bons. HELLO PEOPLE THEY'D KILL YOU ME AND EVERYONE ELSE IN AMERICA IF THEY HAD HALF A CHANCE!!! Isn't one of the reasons we are fighting in Iraq because the Iraqi government used torture?
  18. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 11:46 AM) Never said I want to. I just came out and sure enough, there's a Barbara Streisand record in my collection and a picture of Judy Garland on the wall.... comes with the toaster oven I guess. That is torture of the cruelest kind. The biggest problem I have with torture is the information is rarely accurate and when we act on bad information, it can be worse than not acting at all. If I started beating you, at what point would you tell me anything to make it stop? I'll bet you with a stun gun and a few other devices I could have Nuke telling me Hillary is great, YASNY singing Howard Dean praises, and PA denouncing Jesus. Using Nuke's example. If I have a hint that someone has planned a terrorist attack. I torture someone with no knowledge until they say Chicago on Saturday, and the city is evacuated, and there was no plot, what has that gained us? Now, a better conversation and debate would be, are we being too soft, without reaching torture. I could easily believe that we have drawn the line too far away from torture and we could probably do more. But sub contracting torture and other means of getting around UN and International Law, is not the route the US should take as the beacon of human dignity and human rights for the world to see. When we lower ourselves to the same level of evil as we are trying to eliminate, we aren't changing anything and making it worse.
  19. Because most, not all, people believe in some higher power. Tradition. They haven't explored other options. Being married by a Judge in some courtroom doesn't have the same romantic setting of a Church.
  20. My turn, the crap Kap got yesterday reached me waaaaay down here. 36 degrees and rainy. Wind 16 mph.
  21. Ouga Chaka ouga! .... OK old timers, without googling, what song does that open?
  22. What annoys me the most is I figured, hell it's Iraq!!? We'll go in like were going to milwaukee, kick some ass, leave. Like in a couple years. Instead this will be stretching until the end of this decade. :banghead It seemed too easy and too immediate. No way we needed to invade at that very moment. There was a lot of mistakes based on faulty information, assumptions, and fears.
  23. How about a little Chicago flavor from Paperlace
  24. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 01:15 PM) The whole world calls it the Vietnam war, not the Vietnam conflict so whay are you nitpicking? We never declared war on Vietnam and that directly resulted in the war powers act of 1973. Presidents can no longer commit US Troops overseas without congressional approval. It is a very important distinction in our history. And wouldn't it seem unfair to toss out Nuke's opinion on Iraq because he misquoted a fact on Vietnam?
