It's been around for years but always my favorite
  2. QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 12:22 PM) Post-Beatles McCartney too! :puke you don't like silly little love songs? By the way, what do you call a dog with wings?
  3. 12 reliever for the 9th position player. Not all that earth shattering. It does make the team better by a little bit. Is it the missing piece to a 100 win season? Nah
  4. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 08:51 AM) We dont have to coddle terrorists to prove we're better than anyone, they do a great job of that for us. So anything less than the Internationally recognized boundaries of torture is coddling? Please explain? Who is advocating coddling? Everyone seems to be saying stay on this side of the line, don't become Hussein, Hitler, Mengele, etc. As the beacon of human rights and freedom, don't we have an obligation to observe international law? What message are we sending if we stoop to the same level of evil as those we are fighting? How can we set ourselves up as the shining example of a society and break International Laws? Do everything allowed under International Conventions, International Laws, and US Laws. Nothing more, sometimes less if it serves the purpose.
  5. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 08:25 AM) Spare me. Next thing you know people will start saying we're torturing them cause we're not buffing their nails and feeding them bon bons. HELLO PEOPLE THEY'D KILL YOU ME AND EVERYONE ELSE IN AMERICA IF THEY HAD HALF A CHANCE!!! Isn't one of the reasons we are fighting in Iraq because the Iraqi government used torture?
  6. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 11:46 AM) Never said I want to. I just came out and sure enough, there's a Barbara Streisand record in my collection and a picture of Judy Garland on the wall.... comes with the toaster oven I guess. That is torture of the cruelest kind. The biggest problem I have with torture is the information is rarely accurate and when we act on bad information, it can be worse than not acting at all. If I started beating you, at what point would you tell me anything to make it stop? I'll bet you with a stun gun and a few other devices I could have Nuke telling me Hillary is great, YASNY singing Howard Dean praises, and PA denouncing Jesus. Using Nuke's example. If I have a hint that someone has planned a terrorist attack. I torture someone with no knowledge until they say Chicago on Saturday, and the city is evacuated, and there was no plot, what has that gained us? Now, a better conversation and debate would be, are we being too soft, without reaching torture. I could easily believe that we have drawn the line too far away from torture and we could probably do more. But sub contracting torture and other means of getting around UN and International Law, is not the route the US should take as the beacon of human dignity and human rights for the world to see. When we lower ourselves to the same level of evil as we are trying to eliminate, we aren't changing anything and making it worse.
  7. Because most, not all, people believe in some higher power. Tradition. They haven't explored other options. Being married by a Judge in some courtroom doesn't have the same romantic setting of a Church.
  8. My turn, the crap Kap got yesterday reached me waaaaay down here. 36 degrees and rainy. Wind 16 mph.
  9. Ouga Chaka ouga! .... OK old timers, without googling, what song does that open?
  10. What annoys me the most is I figured, hell it's Iraq!!? We'll go in like were going to milwaukee, kick some ass, leave. Like in a couple years. Instead this will be stretching until the end of this decade. :banghead It seemed too easy and too immediate. No way we needed to invade at that very moment. There was a lot of mistakes based on faulty information, assumptions, and fears.
  11. How about a little Chicago flavor from Paperlace
  12. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 01:15 PM) The whole world calls it the Vietnam war, not the Vietnam conflict so whay are you nitpicking? We never declared war on Vietnam and that directly resulted in the war powers act of 1973. Presidents can no longer commit US Troops overseas without congressional approval. It is a very important distinction in our history. And wouldn't it seem unfair to toss out Nuke's opinion on Iraq because he misquoted a fact on Vietnam?
  13. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) EDIT: My point is you fight a war with everything you've got or not at all. OMG, Nuke and I agree. I think that is twice this year. I assume we would be following all international conventions and US laws in fighting. But you keep calling Vietnam a war. I also think we should vigorously debate before, during, and after the war to assure we are not sending people to die to cover up a sexual dalliance or to bolster sagging approval ratings.
  14. Here's the biggest difference between Vietnam and Iraq II. This time George Bush is involved.
  15. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) We could have won Vietnam in 6 months if LBJ wasn't a moron. His mismanagement of the war cost us a ton of lives and allowed the North to win. Nuke, it was a conflict. We never declared war on Vietnam. So Nuke's opinion on Iraq doesn't count.

Imagine all the people, sniffing airplane glueooooooo Kevhead version. I can't remember the rest of the lyrics. I remember laughing the first time I heard it.
  17. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 12:39 PM) Touche. At least I make more than twice what those guys are making though. At 100x what they are paying those guys, I wouldn't want to be in some of the places we send US Military. I know it isn't the paycheck that keeps most of the guys reenlisting.
  18. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 11:07 AM) Why would a smart, motivated young man/woman want to chase bad guys around for a crap salary when there's far better and safer ways to make a living? Nuke, I've often thought the same thing about you . . .
  19. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 12:19 PM) ...then what happened??? I swear, I hate it when people start to tell a story and then never finish it. Then they sunk the Titanic while Celine Dion sangduh
  20. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 09:54 AM) Well he certainly didn't have a clue about Nam, and he lived through that era. BTW, 58,000 is a closer number. And close to 2,000,000 Vietnam civillians. So I guess I'm better able to speak about Iraq than Dean or anyone else that doesn't know the death toll in that "conflict". But what does that have to do with Iraq war?
  21. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 08:36 AM) I wasn't talking about Bush or Kerry. I was talking about Dean. Stay on the subject matter at hand. So if Dean doesn't know how many US servicemen were killed in Vietnam, he doesn't have a clue about Iraq. This only applies to Dean. I get it.
  22. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 09:25 AM) Wow the NOPD strikes again. I have seen articles about the problems and corruption that exsisted there even before Katrina. Then the Hurricane hits and 1/3rd of the officers quit or simply abandon their posts, and then out of who was left there was this. How sad for the people of NO, what a tragedy. I forgot these guys were screwed up before the hurricane. Great point. This may be a blessing for the NO police department, unless it was the crooked, corrupt ones that stayed at their post.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 08:02 AM) You beat me to it Jim, going a day early on me and all. I had it all planned out. The thread title was going to imagine, and the post was going to be blank... I figured the rest would be easy. Musically I like Imagine, the message? Meh. I like Kevin Mathew's version of the lyrics more.

I was just thinking the anniversary was coming up, I can't remember the exact day. It was all a bit numbing as I recall. I was in college, working late at a mall, when the news came on. Later, I remember picking up Double Fantasy and listening extra close and wishing I could skip over the Yoko content. Years later I came to appreciate her contribution to the album. Yes, it was on vinyl.
