  1. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 06:08 PM) Balta... I hear what you're saying, and I agree. The campaign financing is the heart and soul of what's wrong with our government today. That's why it's so corrupt is because money and greed and power are all bastardized to keep control of their precious "clout". hmmm, who has all the power and money? Maybe we all need to vote DEM and start to even some stuff out again? Except for DeLay - Frist 2008
  2. QUOTE(Mercy! @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 05:40 PM) Wow! This joint is jumping! It was kinda lonely here last night. Just me and Rex knockin’ back a few. I return now and, uh, I’m almost speechless. Who knew there were so many kindred spirits? See, you're amongst friends . . .
  3. Anyone worried that the GOP has so many IOUs out there from campaign contributors?
  4. I have to go visit my chiropractor, my neck is sore from all the twists.
  5. No Paul down here, but Hootie and the Blowfish are playing the Dodge Arena Whoopie Actually, Pat Green is making his 6 appearance in the past two years down here and I've been out of town for all of them. Dammit
  6. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 10:06 AM) It was sinister on the first place to not level with the public on who was being consulted. Sinister in the second place. The first place was imviting them, which should have been cool.
  7. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 09:58 AM) Interesting Fact of the day: More than 2/3 of the world's households obtain their water from outside the house. Wow. Staggering Number. I would be amazed if more than 20% of Americans could take some muddy water and make it potable, or find water and know the safest sources. That also means 2/3 of the world's households do not dispose of body waste in a toilet in their homes.
  8. I think any reasonable person drawing up an energy policy or plan should interview people in the industries. Not only the oil people, but wind farmers, nucleeahyr, solar, natural gas, etc. The potential sinister stuff is how that information is used or abused.
  9. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 11:15 PM) yeah...but when he barks....it's a sarcastic bark. Post of the year material LMAO
  10. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 08:40 AM) I'm a gate crasher but I think I have all of you beat on this one. I actually ponied up and bought the 2 disc 40th anniversary edition of the Sound of Music that just came out yesterday. I almost started a poll on SL&P about it yesterday to see if the concensus was that the puchase suggested I was less than a real man, too cool to worry about what anybody thinks, or somewhere in the middle. My wife detests musicals and has already stated in no uncertain terms that she will NOT be watching it woth me this weekend. OK, back to the ghey. Jim, can I come over and watch it with you . . .
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 08:45 AM) The two most hated words in the English language Wind Chill :rolly Somewhere the forecast is: You know, just sayin', somewhere

  15. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 07:34 AM) After reading all of this, I agree with Rex's statement that the far right and far left have so far hijacked the moderate stance that we ALL have a bad name for believeing ANYTHING anymore. Jimmy Carter and Billy Graham are GREAT examples of where I wish the "extreme" positions were. If that were the case, we'd be a lot better for it. Both are very good men.
  16. but I like Julie Andrews . . . please don't make me leave. :rolly btw, Rex, meet Mercy!, Mercy! this is Rex aka winodj. If you are booking a cruise, he's got all the insider information.
  17. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 07:24 AM) I also used that very justification as well. The point is that it COULD be derived from racist remarks and it wouldn't shock me if that was the case. Of course, they could have been talking about shovels. Ah the joys of google http://www.randomhouse.com/wotd/index.pperl?date=19970115 However, we could find origins of gay as meaning happy, and other words that have been hijacked and their meaning changed to hurt someone. Common sense and decency tells me to avoid phrases that could be misconstrued and hurtful.
  18. QUOTE(Misquoter @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 01:20 AM) You're so quick to point out people who are an embarassment like Jackson, Farakan etc...etc.... They do not represent mainstream Democrats and you know it. They are a tiny, yet vocal, minority. Those idiots do Democrats a disservice because their rediculous statements are just what the Liberal bigots need so they can point their finger and say "That's the liberal left". Ahem, Nuke, would you mind doing the same thing when you think of liberals? Substitute liberals for Christians in your post and you hit the nail on the head.
  19. I would hope the people drawing up an Energy Policy would meet with oil company execs. I wonder why they lied?
  20. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 01:12 AM) Dead wrong on 1 count and debateable on the other. We spend far more money on the VA now than we did when Bush took office. The problem is that demand is outstripping those funding increases. As far as combat pay goes Secretary Rumsfeld, and Ive been over this before, proposed cutting back combat pays for those who serve is safe locations overseas such as Qatar, Baharian, Kuwait, etc.......etc and using those funds to go to increasing combat pay of soldiers serving in hot zones like Iraq and Afghanistan. Unfortunately that was seen as something it wasn't and never got off the ground. Cost per soldier is going down with the VA under Bush. Perhaps this is another area we could spend money on and not cut taxes? He is doing a fine job of creating more wounded Veterans, maybe we could do a better job of taking care of them?

    Security Backpack

    Looking over the design, I'm not so sure this is as useful as I originally thought. It appears as if the child has to pull up on a velcro patch to pull out the pin. With someone grabbing them, quite possibly by the straps of the backpack, that may be impossible. Those small security alarms can be placed in a pocket, or hung on a belt. Having one not mounted on the strap may be better. I like the idea, I just wonder if the design could be made easier for a child to pull the pin.
  22. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 01:07 PM) Those two are west of the Hudson. They don't count. subtle, that was very nice.
