QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) I know that. The reason being is because Republicans have traditionally taken better care of the people in uniform. However, there are a lot of soldiers who think we have no business in Iraq but go anyway because it's their job. No argument here.

QUOTE(zach61 @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 05:00 PM) It's not the contract that I dislike him for. It's the fact that he went to the Rangers for the money and then complains about not winning and saying he never just went there for the money. If the Rangers fit his needs and it was for the money, then why was he whining after a few yrs? He went where he wanted and got what he wanted and then changed his mind and the yanks were able to bail him out. At the very least, he should have come out and said he went to the highest bidder instead of blowing smoke up our asses and then expect us to feel sorry for him cause the rangers sucked. The Rangers expected higher attendance, and expected to raise the payroll even higher and attract more free agents. To that end, they promised A-Rod certain things that would make the team more competitive. The attendance did not spike enough, the Rangers were not able to attract more free agents, and wanted out of the contract they offered as much as A-Rod wanted to leave. Now imagine if players didn't care about the money. I just want to win. Get me on the Yankees or Braves at any cost. What does that do to the competitive balance in baseball? To follow your logic, every free agent in baseball should be kicking themselves for not signing with the Sox for any price. And as far as going to the highest bidder, how much of a difference is there between the Rangers, Mariners, and Pirates? What the hell else are you going to judge it on? Mr. Owner, I am looking over your offer and please reduce it by $4,000,000 per year and buy another player.

Let me try and explain my point. 15-year old males fantasize a lot about sex. Hormones, etc. are changing, erections are occurring, not always at appropriate times, and in general they are growing up. A 15 year old is probably not thinking of himself as getting molested. He is thinking of himself as a stud. It is probably being reinforced by the lady that is interested in him. As an adult, I am disgusted by the situation. The 15-year old is probably confused why this is a problem. Your perspective changes with age and probably is gender influenced as well. And btw, I am not trying to defend the molestation quote, but it depending on the age of the author, would help to substantiate my point.

From my buddy John, he's staying in touch. He's a decorated, Vietnam War Vet and a really involved community activist and leader.

With all due respect to Steff and Soxy, there are probably more than a few guys here who are thinking at 15, sex with a willing female would have been pretty cool. Whether that is societal norms, or real differences in males vs. females, I don't know. I do know at 15 I was sexually active and really would have though an older woman was cool. Now, as an adult, I see the abuse and how it would effect a kid. I'm not sure at what point between 15 and 44 I came to realize that.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 08:08 AM) But the players should be smart enough to realise, on the right team they can make a definite impact, and help push that team over the edge. For example if you're a catcher, and all of the good teams already have catchers who have better abilities than you, than you're gonna be hard-pressed to sign with one of those good teams. Of course if you're say Rafael Furcal, and the Yanks and the Royals offer you the exact same deal, of course you're going to want to play for the Yanks. That's why those low revenue franchises have to build with young players (like the Indians have done), and try to catch some breaks on the FA market like they did with Kevin Millwood. So you would value being a starter over being the backup? How many free agents don't wish they had signed with the White Sox during the past off season?
-
Imagine the free agent market if every player said, I don't care about the money, get me to the Braves or Yankees, I want to play in the post season.
-
Should a free agent just be concerned about getting on the team with the best chance to win a WS? Money? Geography? Coaching staff? Opportunity to play? What should be the balance?
-
Damn, I already have most of these done . . .

Shipwrecked on an Island Two men were shipwrecked near an island. When they landed ashore, one of them began screaming and yelling, "We're going to die! We're going to die! There's no food! No water! We're going to die!" The second man leaned calmly against a palm tree. When the first man saw how calm his friend was, he went crazy and shouted, "Don't you understand?! We're going to die!!"Undisturbed, the second man replied, "You don't understand, I make $100,000 a week." Dumbfounded, the first man looked at him and asked, "What difference does that make?!? We're on an island with no food and no water! We're going to DIE!!!" The second man answered, "You just don't get it. I make $100,000 a week and I tithe ten percent on that $100,000 a week. Wherever I am, my pastor will be sure to find me!"

QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 11:32 PM) The true test should not be stats, but this: Take A-Rod off the Yankees and take Ortiz off the Red Sox. Which team plays more worse as a result? I say the Red Sox do. The Yankees are going to lose power without A-Rod, certainly, but I think that Ortiz is more essential to the Red Sox. And that's more closely related to value than mere stats. We have separate awards for stats; the batting crown, RBI crown, etc. Actually this is a league MVP. And the Yankees would have a harder problem without a 3rd baseman, the Red Sox could let the pitcher bat. When you start playing that game, shouldn't you look at the quality of the backup? Doesn't that also follow which team would be worse? Gee if we take Ortiz off, who could DH, vs. who could play 3rd and bat. All that proves is A-Rod is surrounded by better talent.

If there is a pre-req situation check with the Professor of the advance course and see if they will waive it. I was able to do that on two occasions. In one case, the class wasn't a problem at all, in another I needed some stats help, but was able to find some great resources. The prof should know just how important the pre-req will be. Example: I took Research Methods without the Stats course. 95% of Methods never touched on Stats, I only needed an understanding of stats when it came time to put together my paper.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 06:32 AM) Please enlighten me. What is that plan? Undermine the insurgents by: Pursuing a political settlement. Tie Troop withdrawals to specific, responsible, benchmarks beginning with 20,000 before Christmas in response to the Iraq Constitution being completed. There is more to it of course, but these are the two talking point highlights.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 05:56 AM) If I released an album called "Bullet in Billy Joe" I would be villified. I'm not going to get into a huge debate and ruin the new, cuddlery PA image, but I just needed everyone to know that these yahoos are no better or worse than KKK members or Al Queida members. just so y'all know. friggin' disparity. PA, while I respect the sentiment, comparing a living human with the Bible, isn't quite accurate. I'm not defending Green Day, but I believe my God can handle the criticism. Even respected theologians differ in interpretations, so these yahoos have a different interpretation. So I say Good Riddance, I hope they have the time of their lives . . . and so it begins
