  1. Read the Maggs thread and all the pleading to understand the owners financial situation. Just accept we cannot afford to pay our biggest star. Only big market teams can afford superstars I guess.
  2. Just so we're clear what the goal is and what or who we are cheering.
  3. draft well and then what? If you cannot keep the superstars you develop, when are you going to win a Worlds Series? Commenting on the Twins winning the central without an $85 million dollar payroll, I posted that no team has won the WS from the Central in a very long time and that if we were in the East, we wouldn't even sniff the playoffs. That was characterized as irrelevant. I guess actually winning a World Series is irrelevant to Sox fans, but the shareholders collective net worth is. :headshake :puke on losers

  5. Small fine? Make them pay the full $2000 to $5000 cost. Why should the tax payers have to foot the bill?
  6. You are correct, it is irrelevant. Since we, as loyal fans of the White Sox shareholders, would rather applaud them toeing some payroll limit then winning a World Series. Lose games but make money YEAH!!! Let's get a list of the Shareholders and start singing their virtues since we seem more interested in them making money then winning a f***ing World Series. I can just imagine the posts Wow, did you see where Barry Jones just increased his net worth? He's almost at $10,000,000! Dam let's see if we can sign the full roster to MLB minimum salaries and really put him over the top! Go Shareholders!! By the way, can you name anyone on the roster, you know the guys who play? "play what?" "baseball" "really, that's the business they are in? Cool, I thought White Socks meant textiles."
  7. And when was the last WS winner out of the Central? Put us in the East and we'd never even dream of a playoff spot.
  8. Fans, please understand we cannot afford to compete for a World Series. Enjoy a play off run now and then. If you want the resources ($85,000,000) to compete for a WS, please move to the north side. We want players who are competitive on the field, but not at negotiating a contract. We want players who will not settle for second place, unless it is money. Enjoy a lifetime of 2nd place finishes.
  9. Really? I am a little surprised, I thought Illinois was still up in the air? The downstate folks aren't as solidly pro-Bush as before?
  10. I guess Ava Maria is lost on you. The singer is awesome, I have tears in my eyes.
  11. I put on a suit and tie for 15 years. Occassionaly, if I wasn't visiting clients, I could dress down for casual Fridays. I was lucky, my boss was in Milwaukee, my office was in Schaumburg. We both loved to ride motorcycles and he would find a Friday excuse every couple of weeks to have to meet me. Lake Geneva was always a good spot
  12. I am in deep south Texas, no one except vistors and bankers wear suits. I'm like the old guys I use to make fun of in Chicago. I haen't bought a new tie in 8 years, a new suit in 6 years. Business attire is a pair of slacks and a golf shirt.
  13. All the networks are offering coverage. I was watching the Fox feed, less announcing.
  14. Put a cork in the rum bottle, Shammy coming to town. God, I hope they pitch him inside.
  15. I agree 100%. Actually of all positions, outfield is the systems deepest spot. If this was starting pitching, we'd be in a heap of trouble. It's the process I've been seeing since BV's rent a player days. Could you see the Cubs lose Sosa? To me it's on the same level.
  16. We'll be ok. Which is nice. My grandfather went to his grave saying "wait until next year, the team is ok." Dammit, I want a WS before I die.

Which brings up an interesting topic. Looking at other entertainment venues, movies, theater, concerts, opera, etc. they have variable pricing plans. I've paid $100 to see Aerosmith and $6. with a two drink minimum to see David Lee Roth. Both were fair prices. Movies will not allow discount tickets for Lord of the Rings, yet will for lesser movies. Why not variable pricing based on who the team is playing? I know baseball wants to think we are cming out to see the home team, but reality is some teams are draws, some are not.
  18. True, True, True BTW my daypack is a Kelty, Jansport sucks
  19. Here's a thought. If Munoz could somehow be "the guy" Kenny wouldn't have to make a deal. Maybe starting the guy here in early June wouldn't be such a bad idea. Unless they know he ain't ready.
  20. State Dept. Understated Terrorism Attacks
  21. 850 Troops. We've had more than that killed in action.
  22. I'm not so certain that trading him at the deadline is a good idea. A. Whatever contender is willing to give up for a 1/2 season Maggs isn't going to help our team. B. We have a chance to at least reach the play-offs. Isn't a playoff run wrth more than a couple AA prospects and a couple million in the shareholder's pockets? C. Whichever contender we trade him to is obviously more interested in winning this year than we are, what message does that send to the fans? All we will have is a tear filled press conference on his way out of town.

  25. Trade him? In the middle of a pennant race? No one will take him after the season, he's a free agent. That would mean trading him mid season. Who's going to grab him for 1/2 a year and giveup something comperable. No, all we'll get is a I'm going to miss Chicago, the fans, and all my team mates.
