ESPN needs to always locate the East coast guy. It's all about their bias.
  2. KW is in the upper half of GMs IMHO. How he handles this mid season will say a lot. I like the pieces he found for last season, let's see what he does for 2004.

Paying Taxes Road Construction Long lines at the bank spilling coffee on my new slacks Windows locking up losing my car keys these are a few of my favorite things . . .
  4. I liked bringing in Marte to end that little parte that Baltimore was starting, but when he pulled him after one pitch to bring in Mr. Zero, he ran out of options for the 9th. I'm thinking keeping Marte in for another batter wouldn't have been a good idea.
  5. Assuming that the Sox understand options and the status on all their players, they brought him up for a reason, knowing the outcomes. Players (and teams) run out of options for a reason. They may have brought him up to determine his future with the organization. Could be we're making room in the minors.
  6. I'm happy with the Harris, Uribe, Valentin, Crede infield situation. I do not think we need to add, unless something unusual comes along. Lefty off the bench? Maybe but we have a pretty good DH on the team now. CF could be upgraded, but it may be too soon to tell. That leaves every teams quest for the magic arm. #5 starter of closer. My vote is for a closer. The #5 at the break may get 12 starts, the closer may get 40 appearances. Sounds like an easy decision. The problem is everyone knows what we need and no one has a surplus of closers. The best trades are surplus for needs.
  7. This certainly is a great time to be a baseball fan in Chicago. I much prefer debating which team is better than the decades of "we suck less than you" debates. The Houston announcers (Milo Hamilton and etc.) pointed out how tough the Cubs have been playing, and without Prior. Houston didn;t have Andy for three weeks so it's about a wash.
  8. What save percentage are we accepting? 100% 99% or something more reasonable? Closers are going to blow save opportunities, they are going to almost blow some save opportunities, and they will strike out the side. I believe Koch has done all three this year. I do not want my closer trotting out to the mound thinking if he blows this save his season is over, at least not in May.

Never. I enjoy reading Pale Hose and Sports Bar, not posting very often. Plus depending on my consulting I have stretches where I just do not have much time to log in. I also don't log in for every game thread, another way posts add up quickly (without spamming).
  10. Worked fine here. I loved the "who shot JR" finish.
  11. Heather, With all due respect. Step one, see a Doctor not Soxtalk I hope you feel better. I would also drop the calcium for a few days. Everything can be bad in too high a dose. Also, have you been anywhere that ticks live? Several tick ailments can sound like what you ave. I was hobbled for a few days last November and it was diagnosed from a tick bite.

Tuesday May 4 7:00 am Central ChiSoxFn found a few moments last night to post, moving the bar to over 16,100 posts. SS2k4 is only 113 posts away. Let's see if SS2k4 closes like Billy Koch or Billy Botch. Tomorrow is looking like a good bet. Checking the log ins revealed that Mariotti has logged in but sources close to me are saying he will be writing about infighting regarding Palestinians and Israelis and the proliferation of hot chick pics on internet sports sites. ESPN was confused in picking a winner here but once it was pointed out ChiSoxfn is in California, and it was explained where California is, they went with the East Coaster SS2k4.

Thank you APU. I've been in other situations where the person didn't feel that he/she needed to react to anotehr person's complaint. Thank you for taking the high road. And I edited my pic of US soldiers in another thread.

Apu, The pics of a detainee/prisoner being urinated on, and other forms of torture should be linked to IMHO. Please consider editing. If this was strictly a political site I would feel different, but this was started as Sox Talk and SLAP is a small corner.
  15. (CNN) -- Computer security experts are dealing with at least four variants of a worm that is spreading quickly through Windows operating systems. Known as SasserA, SasserB, SasserC and SasserD, the worm is targeting Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 2000 and 2003 servers. Other Windows systems, including Windows 95, 98 and ME, could be indirectly affected. CNN Link Verification at Norton

At 3:20 PM Central time, SS2K4, if he follows his usual pattern, will post once or twice more to reach the 15,950 mark, then begin getting ready to head home. If the weather is at all unpleasant, he will be certain to post that as soon as possible. While staring blindly out the train window, he will think of posts left unposted, threads to start, and the work that is left to do. Amatuers do not understand that there is no rest from Soxtalk for this elite athlete of the keyboard. One can not reach this level without a clear strategy, and time away from the keyboard must be devoted to planning. Remember, failure to plan, is planning for failure. And prior proper planning prevents piss poor performance. After pouring himself a class of pop, he will sit down and begin his relentless pursuit of glory, the 16,000 post level. ChiSoxfn, is powerless to hold off the raging stampede of posts about to overcome him.
  18. I really didn't think he would be convicted. I think we are seeing a major shift in behavior. We have not faced, as a society, how to behave in a digital age. Laws can not keep up with technology. Email is a strange bird, as are web sites and bulletin boards.

I have two finals and just put the finishing touches on a paper that would not have been as good without the assistance of FlaSoxxJim. Anyone who can combine some stats help, with little known facts from the Guiness Brewery, is . Bu Tuesday, I am finished for a month.
  21. Link to article Guards are happy, it means more prisoners in their cells instead of in the recreation room.
  22. GM have a salary too tall, who are you gonna call? Steinbrenner! FA Looking to make a big haul, you you gonna call? Steinbrenner!
  23. You know, we could post that in every trade/FA thread, on every player in the major leagues.

How many cups of coffee per day? What are the specs on each computer you are using? Dial up or broadband? Long sleeve or short sleeve shirts? Multiple browser windows open so you can respond while the other page updates? Damn it! What are you secrets?
