I was just poking fun at the whole calling people names in any forum on any topic, not specific to this. I can't believe anyone would change their mind about anything because someone on an internet message board told them to or called them a name. sorry, miss bossy pants BTW, which topic in the first twenty pages here is worth discussing?
  3. Last year I couldn't wait, this year I'm wishing Jerry could f*** another championship season for a Chicago team with a strike, only this time it ain't the good guys. I really wish we had a #2 or #3, a 2nd baseman, center fielder, perhaps a proven lead off man.

The world's attention to the problems in the diamond trade, daily x-rays of all employees for example, has helped in employee benefits. I read a few articles on the industry and was appaled by some of the practices. The other problems are in the distribution chain. Looking through the articles, a large number of diamond bought in a store have probably aided terrorists and the drug industry along the way. They are the universal currency, surpassing gold. When a relatively small bag can contain $1,000,000+ worth of diamonds, be converted to cash anywhere in the world, untraceable, legal to have, etc. it is no wonder diamonds are a terrorists best friend.

How would you respond to someone that said the diamond industry has employed thousands of workers, both skilled and unskilled, and there would be widespread poverty and famine if Africa could not sell a very valuable resource? That is the side of the equation I have always struggled with. The world stops buying diamonds and these people lose their jobs without much hope of replacement. That doesn't seem like helping to me.

  10. I don't have a dog in this fight, but there hasn't been an original thought in baseball in 100 years. Example: Let's find the first person to think trading Kong for a pitcher, because everyone else must be copying. Someone show me an example of original thought in baseball that a thousand other people didn't think of at the same time. I think we flatter ourselves a little too much if we think writers actually come here because they have no clue or ideas for columns. Yes, it is a great way to gauge the feelings of the die hard fans, but trust me, most sportswriters, and I know a few from my college newspaper days, think the internet sites are full of psycho crazies who would be ignored in most bars.

  13. 3rd sounds about right and with the team on the north side it will be a nightmare in Chicago next season. Keep praying for a miracle.

Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network. It has bounced a little between 10:00 pm and 10:30 on my system. For a while it was on after Futurama, now it is on before. Someone posted a message from the Family Guy site that another network was thinking of restarting a few episodes. Speaking of Futurama, andone else bothered by hearing Peg Bundy? I watched a Married, with Children episode then happened to flip to Futurama, weird. One thing we have to always remember, like The Beatles leading the way for The Who (greatest commercial R&R band ever); The Simpsons paved the way for every other adult "cartoon" on television. It also created some credibility for a network otehr than the big 3. There is a lot of ground breaking stuff happening with that show. How does everyone compare these to sit coms with humans? Better than Seinfeld, M*A*S*H, Friends, Cheers, etc.?

Abo, Did you do a full custom job like this: I've seen some really elaborate projects that are heirloom quality. The nice thing about that is you will display it for a longer time. A lot of my old stuff just didn't look "right" after I was married and had kids. If I had done some custom framing I probably would have kept them. I wouldn't worry about the cost. I also was wondering when you wrote jersey. I was thinking of the cow

Great quote from Blues Brothers. I forgot about that one.
  20. This time I have to side with the Brazilians. The first arrest should have been a nice warning to everyone. What an idiot.
  21. My heart goes out to the parents. Nature never intended for parents to bury their children.
  22. For a 3rd place team any of the above will do. For a Championship team, any of these are a stretch unless they have breakout, career, rookie of the year, seasons.

Add Maddux to the Santo, Kessinger, line of ex-Cubs who we get at the end of their careers. Yes, I would love to see him in a Sox uniform this season and next. However he would be the number 3 or 4 pitcher in the rotation taking 1 or 2 money. Mentoring younger pitchers? Isn't that why we pay coaches? If he winds up with the Cubs it will be just one more reason why next season is going to be a nightmare.

The smell of napalm in the morning. Excellent quote. There was something in the writing of the Dirty Harry movies that produced memorable quotes. I was also thinking about the scene in Animal house when Belushi's character was going on a rant "was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?" "Germans?!" "Forget it, he's on a roll"
