The problem as I see it is more along the lines of government programs never seem to die. Each party loves to spend money. As I listened to W's speech I kept hearing more money for this and more money for that. We spent record amounts of money during the Reagan years and he's probably the most popular president in the past 40 years. We put in sunset provisions in the beginning and then quietly remove them later. How many overlapping agencies do we need? Republicans are not without their contradictions. We can trust the government to execute citizens but not to cure their colds. I would think small Government Republicans would also be concerned about creating these giant oversight agencies.

It will get locked long before that, or shall I say someone will put a wall up around it.

The problem with a lot of government agencies is they have to justify their existance. If they can't find a threat they may just start making one up.

I was just trying to correct some misconceptions regarding the US-Mexico Border. the US allows Mexican Nationals with very minimal paperwork, to cross and shop, vacation, etc. with in 30-40 miles of the border. Mexico has a similar program. When you enter Mexico, wether by vehicle or walking a red/green light is triggered if you get a green light, which is 99% of the time you procede without ever talking or seeing a Mexico official. If you want to travel into the interior (more than 30 kilometers) you need a tourist visa. North of me about 40 miles is an interior border checkpoint. Everyone is stopped and asked their nationality. Some are asked to prove it. Foreign nationals are requred to have US paperwrok to travel further north. The desire for a fence has many reasons with stopping illegals being one. However, many humanitarians want the remote areas cut off because hundreds of poor people who want to pick crops up north are dying when they get lost in hostile environments. The Southwest has been experiencing drought conditions and watering holes have dried up. Border Patrol agents just watch for buzzards and try to get there in time. Some of us older Americans can remember how the FBI and other government agencies were spying on anti-war protesters during the Vietnam War and how Nixon kept an enemies list. Further back we have everyone's favorit politician from Wisconsin who was looking for communists under every bed and on every stage. I am wondering with all the money that we are shoveling into the Department of Homeland Security when they will turn on us. All it takes are a few employees with extreemist political views and soon they are spending our tax dollars looking at innocents. Anyone else concerned we have created this new massive government agency? You can imagine trying to hire so many new people that the screening wasn't all that great, hell it's our government.

Would you stop with the Mexico fence. The border is 1,933 miles long and you are talking about 14 miles? The Rio Grande cuts north outside El Paso meaning the majority of the border does not have any barrier to walking. That would be the states of New Mexico, Arizona, and California. If you care to know, the Rio Grande doesn't even flow into the Gulf of Mexico anymore. It stops almost 1/2 mile from the Gulf. Most of the river though Texas is less than 5 feet deep and less than a couple hundred yards across and very little current. It would be harder for someone to cross Michigan Avenue during rush hour than to cross the Rio Grande. 14 miles of fencing. LMAO. It's like me stating that Northbrook put up a fence keeping people out and pointing to a few backyard fences. I've seen fencing at Ilinois Beach State Park and in Antioch along the state line. That must be the fence Illinois erected to keep illegals from Wisconsin out. You are amazing. I live in the US and spent many working hours in Mexico. I have travelled extensively all along the border. Yet, you will continue to try and debate this. I love your quote about quiting posting because people have closed minds. There have been many multi million dollar proposals to build fences but all fail for various environmental and humanitarian factors. And finally a piece from our government, well at least mine.

I disagree. Knowing who the rapists are, especially someone who targets underaged children is exactly what the law was intended to do. Give people a way to know the threats in their neighborhoods.

I might be wrong but by setting a minimum age the state has determined that children under 16 can not consent in that situation. Where do we draw the line? Can a 12 year old consent to sex with a 16 year old? One reason we have consent ages is to eliminate the she said yes ~ no I didn't loop.
