Time Cube
One of the symptoms of some mental diseases is trying to place everything in these sorts of patterns. The person will try and put their entire lives into, in his case, this 4 even space theory. If you look at his room it will be divided into 4 quadrants, pictures will be arranged that way, etc. The scary thing is the long list of now reputable scientists who were considered crack pots in their day. Newton, Galileo, etc. I obviously do not believe his theory but imagine some weird crackpot telling you the earth revolved around the sun whenb everyone knows that everything revolves around US Cellular Field

Ultimately we (secret committee) will narrow each one down to no more than 3 nominees. People can nominate as many people, including themselves, as they like.

Merged awards threads
I think I have a good category list: Not too long so it will be manageable. I am in the processs of selecting a nominating group to comb through the nominees to limit each category to 3 to 5 choices. You can either kiss butt publicly or PM me with your nominations. Time frame: Nominations will close on December 15 Polls will be up by December 17 Voting ends December 22 Winners announced December 23 Admins: I was planning on making the poll vote only, no replies. Can we also hide the vote by vote results? The categories: Poster of the Year (soxtalk MVP) Thread of the Year (Best Picture) Best Poster to start a Thread (leading actor) Best Poster to add to a Thread (supporting actor) Special Effects (Who posts the best pics) White Sox Baseball Analyst Cubbie (poster who gets picked on, but like a loyal Cub fan, keeps coming back) Drinking Buddy (Who would you like to meet for a drink) LOL (who makes you laugh) Anger Management Award (who makes you mad) No prizes but feel free to add your award to your signature. Maybe we can have the winners names in gold. *Offical as I can make them.

Season ticket re-up
I shared Bulls and Hawk tix for a long time, it's the intangibles. Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name . . . Nothing like the friendships that result from sitting next to the same people for lots of games. It becomes like your living room, only the beer prices are much higher. The feeling of being a part of the team, a true fan. Regular parking lot guy, regular usher, regular beer vendor, you know the fastest route to the bathroom, which hot dog line is always shortest, etc.

BCS, Why Conf Champs only is bad idea
The system should have as a goal having the two best teams in the nation playing each other. By adding things like you have to win your last game, or can't be from the same conference, you are undermining that goal. I'll agree to disagree whether it should be the best two teams for the totality of the season or the best two teams at that moment (the "when you lose matters" argument) but to replace an arbitrary system that allows any two teams in division 1 who are rated 1-2 in the final poll for a system that would toss out one of the teams because they happen to be in the same conference with another equally good team is taking a giant step backwards. If you go to a conference winner only playoff be ready for controversy when a team like OU, Ohio, or Texas is left out of the tourny while someone like Kansas is in. I'm certain LSU would feel better beating Kansas than OU this season. Remember what the BCS replaced. This is an improvement. The Bowls were nothing more than a post season exhibition designed to draw fans to warm weather games to spend $$. Each Bowl tried to attract not necessarily the best teams, but the one that "travelled" (spent $$$) well. When they had a decent matchup they would hype this "mythical" national champion. Compeating Bowls would each try and promote their winner as the national champion. Some Bowls had contractual arrangements like the Rose Bowl to assure themselves of a good game every year.

Colleges
You might want to look at a General Studies Degree. It is sometimes called Interdisiplinary Studies. Popular with Social Studies Teachers and Journalists, and Athletes. Basically it is slightly different between Universities but it is a Triple Minor (sounds like hockey). You might have expanded minors in History, Communications, and Kinesiology. Or whatever three make sense. Journalists down here like to toss in either International Relations or Spanish. Again, don;t make school and career decisions without consulting someone you trust. IMHO checking with a future employer through tehir Human Resource (HR) department or talking with someone who has the job you want is a great way to pick up tips.

Just come up woth categories first. I'm imaging no more than 10 or we'll have a mess. Also how about: Most likely to make me laugh Most likely to make me pissed Best insight Help me to cut it to 10. Admins/list owners, mind if I run with this?

BCS, Why Conf Champs only is bad idea
I guess the point I am making is an arbitrary rule like you have to win your last game of the season or one conference can not have the two best teams in the nation would be a step backward. This is still better than the system it replaced. In the old system USC would never have played for the National Championship either. They would be playing Michigan no matter where they both were ranked. It was a bidders war for teams and Bowls were looking to grab the teams that "travelled" the best.

Need another team
By the time the WS rolls around most people have a team they are pulling for. If it happened to be my new #2 the Astros I would be even more excited. Would it compare to a chest thumping, I can't take any more of this, parade down Michigan avenue, stuff for my walls, memorize every stat for every player, Sox win? sure

Gammons
Say what you will about Gammons but any trade rumour that lands Frank in LA may have some basis. We've heard a few times that Frank wouldn't mind LA and getting him there probably wouldn't be an easy trade so some three way, 8 player + cash thing might be the way it goes down. This doesn't make sense with Daubach being released. I figured that was a clear sign that Frank was here for 2004.

no problem. just wanted to explain. I didn't want my Sox cred to suffer, I have too much emotional investment already.

Pettite
There was a ton of reasons for wanting to go to Texas. Andy's in-laws are from here and his wife and he wanted to be near family. He took less to be in Tex. I can fully understand him wanting to live in Texas. I wasn't born here but I got here as fast as I could.

Colleges
Journalism was my first major. Before you decide to major in Journalism, check out the newspapers or media outlets you want to work for and ask them what education they would like to see. A long time ago I was at a College Journalism convention in Chicago and the publisher of the Sun Times told us he didn't want to hire Journalism majors. He wanted *good writers* who knew about Economics, or Politics, or Middle East Issues because when he assigned them those type of stories they would have some knowledge of what was going on. He didn't care if you wrote a thesis about William Randolph Hurst and were an expert on 19th Century newspapers. That may have changed. YMMV Build a clip file at your college paper but don't get too involved, the newspaper staff has a very high drop out rate because they already think they are journalists and spend too much time writing about college than doing it. Off soap box. Ignore the old guy if you like. Good luck. ###

Need another team
Godfather, Couple of things you might not know. I live in Texas so having a "local" team just makes sense. I've been a Sox fan for over 40 years despite being born on the north side (Ravenswood Hospital) and growing up in Lake County. As far as jumping ship, I'm not certain what I wrote that has you believing I'm jumping ship. I was merely looking for a second team, a NL team, to cheer as well. This is mostly Ranger country but that would hit too close to my heart because when they play the Sox I make the 12 hour drive to catch a couple games and cheer the Sox. I am secure in my Sox loyalty and can dance with another when the music is right, but will always go home with the Sox. I will also continue to cheer the Edinburg Roadrunners.
