  1. I place no value on another team wanting one of our coaches. So it doesn't matter if the Yankees want Coop or the Marlins want Oz. Those teams are different with different needs. I'm curious, why do some people place great value on the Yankees wanting to interview Coop while dismissing the Marlins making an offer for Oz? Seems like to be consistent you should value both the same.
  2. The fact that someone is wanted by another organization (even The YANKEES) is meaningless. If Walker was picked up by another organization after being let go would we suddenly think he was good? If Kenny came out and said the Angels inquired about Walker and we said no, would we think Walker was better? So valuing Coop because the Yankees wanted to talk to him (remember it was just an interview) is silly. It's the same as valuing Oz because the Marlins wanted to hire him and were willing to give up value to get him.
  3. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 10:30 AM) Because Dick Allen asked for proof of people around baseball talking up Cooper. The Yankees attempting to acquire him is proof of that. Then that is also proof that people around baseball value Ozzie. Which really means jack s***.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 10:22 AM) Because they were told no. Because the Sox value Cooper more than they value Guillen. The End Exactly, so why does anyone care how much the Yankees value him? I still find it funny that the club must value a guy more when they turn down nothing in return than when they turn down players in return.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 10:18 AM) Because the Sox were willing to let Ozzie go for the right price. Not so with Cooper. Huge difference Last time I checked, there was no asking for compensation for Cooper. Just a "No" I agree there is a huge difference, the Yankees didn't even make an offer. And by the way, I think it is wrong to value Coop because another team wants him. Coop's value is the work he's done for the Sox which, as noted, has been very good. I really don't give a rip that the Yankees (OMG THE YANKEES) wanted him any more than I give a rip that the Marlins want Ozzie.
  6. So we hire a GM and saddle him with a manager he doesn't want. Now we'll hire a new manager and not let him pick his staff? Now, I'd probably question any manager that doesn't want Coop, but I still think you should give the new guy a chance to hire his staff. No more hiring someone then handcuffing them on decisions that should be theirs.
  7. Both people were wanted by other organizations, and in both cases deals were not done. We mention Coop is so valuable because another organization wanted him, then shouldn't we believe the same about Ozzie? Plus another organization was willing to give up something for Oz, the Yankees were not willing to give up anything for Cooper.
  8. So one or two players in six years have outstanding seasons is enough for a pitching coach, is it enough for the hitting coach? Just saying we've anointed Coop as the god of all pitching coaches, and I'll agree he's our best position coach, but maybe he looks good because he's surrounded by idiots.
  9. As Cooper ever produced an ace? Cy Young winner? League leader in anything besides innings? Has any player come out and endorsed him?
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 09:34 AM) They didnt block him. The return they asked for was rejected Which is the same situation with Cooper. They would have received nothing in return, so they denied the Yankees request.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 08:12 AM) Why did the Sox deny permission to speak to Cooper if he wasn't seen as an overall "plus" to the organization? Excellent point. And we should add Why have the Sox blocked Ozzie from going to the Marlins if he isn't seen as an overall "plus" to the organization?
  12. This can't be a happy clubhouse. Ozzie isn't getting the love he thinks he deserves. Coop was blocked from interviewing for the Yankees. Walker is always getting blamed for something. Kenny has watched players fall off the map, yet the manager he can't fire keeps putting them in positions to fail so his manager can rub his nose in the s***. The long term vets like Kong and Mark are having good seasons, while being surrounded by loafing, can't remember how to play, steaming piles of crap. This team was so close and rebuilding would mean a few seasons of no chance from the start seasons, but it's starting to look like it may be necessary. Certainly cleaning out the coaching staff is probably the way to start. But imagine the team being anchored by Rios and Dunn, who you can't get rid of, the rest of the roster is "these guys can play" types who may be players two years down the road. Ugh. It would mean picking up every major magazine, newspaper, and on-line source and seeing the Sox picked for fourth. Been there, done that, and it sucks.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 07:40 AM) For the record, I'm not blaming Cooper for Peavy's injury, but I clearly remember the game when that lat detached. That particular day, he maybe threw 15 pitches in the bullpen before the game. My friend and I were astonished. I don't know if it was because he was in pain and knew something was wrong or what. I also don't know if the lat was partially detatched at the time or it became detatched all at once. But the night Peavy called it a season in 2010, he wasn't in the bullpen more than 2 or 3 minutes before the game. I'm not blaming Cooper either. At this point in their careers veterans like Peavy should know how to prepare. But it highlights how Coop can do no wrong and Walker can do no right. The truth is obviously somewhere in the middle.
  14. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 07:37 AM) The thing that bothers me most about KW's quote is that it sounds like he doesn't plan on getting rid of Ozzie. I'm more of a KW apologist than others, but with that mentality he needs to go, too. Both guys have not done great jobs, and if only one were to go I would say Ozzie. But with silly ass quotes like this, KW needs to go, too. Hiring Oz wasn't up to him and firing Oz is not up to him. I think most everyone here would agree that KW would have fired Oz in 2008 or 2009 if it was his call. Certainly Oz would be gone by now. Basically I believe Ozzie is playing chicken to see which one of them will be fired first. Ozzie for misplaying these guys or KW for signing them. Oz reminds me of a spoiled baby fighting for Dad's attention and love.
  15. And I think we all agree that Ozzie is near the end, the only question really is are these his last few games or will it be these last few games and a year. There is no way I see an extension coming Oz's way. We may see Oz managing on an "out year".
  16. Good point regarding Coop not getting scrutinized as closely as Walker. IIRC Peavy's injury was partially blamed by not warming up properly, why isn't that blamed on Cooper? If it was a hitter not taking BP, Walker would be run out of town. So maybe a complete cleaning house is in order. Let the next manager bring in a completely new staff.
  17. And I'm going to predict no matter what the team does in the off season the usual posters will predict a horrible season like they always do.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 24, 2011 -> 04:38 PM) NO one did. Yes they did, just ask them And they are way better at predicting the team's finish. All those so called experts who picked the team to win the division don't know anything about baseball. people here knew Dunn would have this kind of season. They knew Rios would suck and Peavy would be injured and take longer to heal. Kenny should have gotten Pujols in a trade for three can't miss prospects while continuing to build the minor league system.
  19. It really depends on how serious you get about TVs. I think of mine about as much as I think about my toaster. I turn it on, there's a picture, works for me. I know someone that will spend weeks picking one out and gets rid of perfectly functioning TVs because of some new refresh rate or s***. We had an Insignia in our conference room, seemed to work just fine. The picture looked fine to me.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 24, 2011 -> 07:17 PM) He also is way, way, way behind Mittens in raising money. Who had a four year head start
  21. And I am thinking they caught someone committing a crime, not me, and confiscated the property. I was not involved in whatever crime that was committed. I have in multiple locations and places talked about selling the car, I have a witness who watched me sell the car and the new owner drive off. I have a bank deposit to show receiving the cash. I'm thinking I am on pretty solid ground here.
  22. in multiple places on multiple pages is says to ignore this if I am no longer the owner. Ignoring seems like a bad move.
  23. Serious. FP&F Case Number 2011535200167101001 Seized for violation of Title 8 US Code Section 1324(a) I appears that they were bringing in illegals, or an illegal was driving it across the border when it was seized. I won't be claiming the property and it seems this is a not so uncommon happening here. The form I submitted to the State of Texas notifying them of the sale has not been posted yet. I'm told this really is no big deal.
