  1. Oh s***, I am so busy with work.
  2. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 04:54 PM) Does the city really think they'll gain something from this? Or is it just to force teachers to play babysitter for an extra hour a day? I don't know their schedule, but usually they want more core subject instruction. Perhaps an after school tutoring program. Good teachers do it voluntarily . . .
  3. Too bad the parents couldn't maybe try to teach their kids something as well as the school. I'm a little irritated because I spent three hours grading papers last night. So adding 90 minutes of instruction will add another 30 minutes of grading.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 12:58 PM) Right. I forgot, this wasn't Obama's fault. Do you really believe one person has that much power in this country?
  5. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 11:00 PM) It was there...just happened to be on the bench and in AAA You know what would be even crazier? If he *gasp* didn't f***ing play him. I honestly believe we could have won the division or came within a game or 2 if our lineup was made by a 6 year old who only had BA/HR/RBI to look at after July 15th. A DH by committee would have worked just fine . . .
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) http://www.journalgazette.net/article/2011...9926/1002/LOCAL Dummy, that's not what his buddies meant when they told him to make a run for the border . . .
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 12:49 PM) And as much as you celebrate $4 gas, I know you can't wait for $10. A. According to the fairy tale, when gas hits $10 a gallon some American company will start drilling and sell it for $4 B. I write the hyperbole around here. Go back to charts and graphs sir.
  8. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 11:06 AM) Liberal values are at odds with conservative values that I agree with. So we disagree. There's no "hate" element there. I don't "hate" you or "dislike" you because you think differently. I don't believe the values are at odds at all. What is at odds are the routes to achieve those values. Liberals believe, for the most part that we achieve those goals best by working together, and the one institution we have that is all of us is the government. So liberals like to make things better through the government. Conservatives share many of the same values, but they would like private enterprise and charities (volunteers) to help that route. Security for our future? Help starving kids? Help poor people? Help people get an education? Allowing sick people to see a doctor or surgeon The values are the same, the route is different.
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 10:20 AM) He also has God on his side. All the Reps do, it's their rock, their cornerstone.
  10. Perry will have a nice edge in fundraising and the best run campaign. The rest is gravy.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 10:07 PM) Greg, one question, if bringing in Ozzie will make everything wrong with the Marlins right, how come the White Sox aren't great? I'll toss in an answer, chemistry. People listen to the new person. Just look at guys and how quickly they listen to the new girlfriend. That all changes soon. There are very few managers who can stay fresh. I believe Oz's style has just run its course.
  12. I still think most people are pushing Oz further to extremes than he really is. It's the nature or debates here. Some think he is way better than he really is, and to counter that, some are making him out to be way worse than he is. Ozzie isn't worth ten loses or wins, and that would just be to get in the playoff race. This team will lose 80 games, the vast majority will be on the players, not Oz. Remove Oz and there are still some serious holes to be filled. With the position the Sox are in, bringing in guys making the league min and hoping they work out isn't going to satisfy fans. So KW and Co. go after veterans who are having good careers and contracts to "prove it". When they bomb, it's a big money bombing. Besides the Dunn family, no one wishes he was making that kind of money, but remove his contract, fans would be pushing for the team to sign someone who will be earning a similar contract.
  13. QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 12:48 AM) Just think about it. Dunn could be a legitimate candidate for CBPOTY next year if he even hits, say, .240 with 20 HRs and 80 RBIs. That's how bad he's been. Another odd thought, if Dunn magically learns how to hit for contact, he could feasibly double his BA with a career year next year. I mean, it will never happen. But if you think of another struggling player, like Beckham, he'd have to hit .460 to double his. Not feasible, not even for Ty Cobb. And if you even take what many would consider the next worse season in baseball history, Rob Deere's 1991 season, you'd have to hit .358 to double that, something which has only been done ten times in this century. So not really feasible either. But Dunn would only have to hit .324! In 2007, 15 people did that, including the non-superstar likes of Chone Figgins and Mike Lowell. Not saying Dunn is ever going to hit .324. Hell, the way he swings these days, I wouldn't place money on .200. I'm just saying that an average double what his is isn't really uncommon at all. Dunn sucks. CBPOTY is easily within grasp. In fact, if he is still on a mlb roster next September, he should be a lock. I'm guessing we're going to here about some strange injury/disease/ailment that he is recovering from.
  14. lagniappe is a wonder custom that I wish beer vendors would adopt.
  15. It's not about what I want, it's about what the nation needs -- Perry 2012
  16. I liked Newt's witty remark about GE, I thought he came off much less ivory tower than I'd seen him in the past. I agreed in principle when he stated that green tax credits are loopholes, disagreed that those needed to be closed. Perry is a few months behind the others, he's getting comfortable with this new level of campaigning, and gaining fast. I was also grading papers, so I skipped watching some of the candidates.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 09:15 PM) Forgot to mention him... to me, he may be the only guy up there who made positive ground in the debate. I thought he did very well.
  18. Were y'all watching the same debate? Perry
  19. Hmm, Miss Universe or Republican debate? One has really good answers to tough questions, the other is a bunch of politicians.

  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 09:53 AM) They completely ignored them when they were being accumulated to fund policies they preferred. I agree and I don't know if you are talking about Dems or GOPers.
  23. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 09:00 AM) Then explain how Reagan was the first President to turn the US into a debtor. During the Reagan years both parties learned they could get what they want. Reagan wanted a massive run up in military spending, the Dems wanted some nifty new social programs, let's have both! No worries about tax increases or spending money on one or the other. Let's have both! If you vote for X we'll vote for Y. And the public loved it. Something for everyone. Congress had nice approval ratings. Reagan was the Teflon King. It was all good during his time. Now, of course it wasn't Reagan alone, he had plenty of spendaholics on both sides of the aisle in Congress to go along with him.
  24. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 10:54 PM) Exactly...he keeps reaching to fix a previous f*** up. Reactive instead of proactive. So he should be proactive and fix what isn't broken and ignore the problems? What GM does that? Every GM is trying to shore up weak spots first.
