  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 08:37 PM) And if Walker and Guillen are replaced and they turn it around...clearly they deserve none of the blame. I think you could place some of the blame on Walker. Usually I would say I'd be interested in what the player claims, but now I'm not too certain. If Ozzie is gone, all sorts of blame will be heaped on him.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 08:26 PM) You know who will fix them? Greg Walker, right? eh? eh? But *if* they do turn it around, and then say it was Walker, we can dismiss it
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 06:41 PM) If you look at how things were under Doug Collins...or for the Wizards when Jordan was around...the coach really looks key there. Jordan as a player? IIRC there was a lot of tension.
  4. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 04:07 PM) It's not special to most people because you EXPECT a player to say nice things about his coaches, especially a classy guy like Konerko. If Walker were the consensus worst coach in professional sports, you'd still get the occasional fluff piece from a player. QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 06:42 PM) Good point. So we can dismiss what players say about the coaches, I'm all for that. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 06:50 PM) If they ALL came out in support of him, it'd be a different story. I think you act purposely obtuse sometimes. Scratch that. I'm sure of it. And I'll agree with you again. If all that played for him came out, that would be a different thing. Hell, if 3/4 came out, I'd probably accept that. How about you? Three-fourth enough?
  5. Not so much big, more like abstruse, recondite, or even inscrutable.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 06:46 PM) You get your real knowledge from the opinions of talk radio hosts and call ins, and message board posts. And interview request by the Yankees, don't forget how important the Yankees wanting to talk to you is.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 03:44 PM) Um, what? The hypothetical was you're the boss and can pick only one. We'll that is kind of silly, don't you agree? It isn't even close to a realistic situation.
  8. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 04:07 PM) It's not special to most people because you EXPECT a player to say nice things about his coaches, especially a classy guy like Konerko. 9. yeah, they did get lucky. The past thirty years have been pretty solid for investments.
  10. Funny a current player's endorsement isn't valued as much as a job interview with another team. /ducking
  11. Yeah, you are correct. They just got lucky the past 30 years.
  12. You said a Galveston type system, based on market returns on the deposited money can't match SS.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 03:11 PM) Social Security type results...aka 0 risk of loss in the event of a downturn? No, no one could do that. So the government must guarantee a return greater than the market can achieve. The government can't invest your money to reach that goal, all they can do is toss greater and greater expense at it. And some people actually have a problem with that system?
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 03:07 PM) OK, we will forget the pair of first inning 3 run homers Konerko hit in the ALCS, to get the Sox going and his GS in game 2 of the WS. BTW,Contreras was the only losing pitcher for the Sox in the 2005 postseason. awesome
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 03:04 PM) It's really this simple: Kenny Williams Ozzie Guillen Don Cooper Greg Walker You're the boss. You call the shots. You make the decision that you're canning three of the four. Which one do you keep? If it takes you more than a tenth of a second to answer that question, you're delusional or you're a family member or close personal friend of the three obvious guys that deserve pink slips. Actually if you are the boss, you would have the choice of keeping all four, or three, or two, or one, or none! And if you are the boss, and you're deciding which coaches are being hired or fired, why even hire a GM or manager?
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 03:12 PM) Honestly...he wouldn't excite me. See, I was right.
  17. But have the Yankees ever interviewed him? That's my requirement. I want someone the Yankees respect! Yeah, I'd like him. But I don't think Balta would get excited.
  18. So saving for retirement by investing will not work. If there was not a government program for retirement returning greater than market rates, no one could achieve social security type results?
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 02:22 PM) If Galveston created the same setup right now and interest rates moved back to averaging 6-7% long term, then OASDI would offer a significantly higher return than a Galveson-like program. OASDI also has much, much, much lower overhead costs than any private program. And they are offering bigger benefits which become part of your estate, not lost like in SS.
  20. And how will the government offer bigger returns? More subscribers?
  21. Welcome back, your dreams were you ticket out
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) Yeah, when he took over the team, they went from the #16 overall payroll in 2001 to the #22 overall payroll in 2003 and had a shot at the division every year. Won the world series with the #13 payroll. Clearly he needs a big market club for success. Let me try too. What color uniforms did they wear?
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 02:04 PM) The Chicago White Sox front office. Then go back and read the part where I said if Kenny could fire the manager
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 01:59 PM) In September 2007 they picked up Ozzie's 2011 contract option. They committed to pay him for 4 more years at the end of 2007. And I'm going to believe that the White Sox were going to fire him and pay him 3 more years' salary at the end of 2008 even if the team went 30-132? This isn't an opinion there Tex. They picked up his option in the dregs of 2007. He was under contract for 4 seasons. You can't even pretend you have a case here. The earliest they'd ever have fired him was 2010, where they would have only had to pay him for 1 season. Instead they added 1 more year to his contract. Who is THEY? Did you forget we are discussing IF Kenny could fire Ozzie.
  25. QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 01:55 PM) You know if I was Kenny.. and couldn't fire my Manager.. I would quit... But, since ZERO teams want him.. I can see why he sticks it out, unemployment in this economy isn't a great thing. How do you know ZERO teams want him? Is there a link?
