  1. QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 03:54 PM) You and I share more common ground than I previously thought. What kind of guns you got? I've got a SIG 556 (it's front heavy but the piston operation makes it far more reliable than any AR IMO), a Mossberg 590 with pistol grip and telescoping stock, the obligatory 1911, a Glock 19, Beretta 92 and HK USP in .45. I'd like to get an AR soon just because they are so customizable. I could go on all day with everything I want to own, so I'll spare you the rest of it. And I get what you're saying about groups. In 99% of them, there's good ones and bad ones. But as far as I'm concerned, there are a few groups that just don't offer anything. I'm not going to meet a Nazi or a Stalinist or a Klansman, people whose beliefs led to the deaths of millions throughout the last century, and think, "he's not evil, just different." There are evil groups out there, but that label applies to the murderers and the torturers and the tyrants and the thugs. It doesn't apply to groups that want more spending or less spending, more gun rights or less gun rights, more social programs or less social programs etc. If you call such people evil just to further your political agenda ("racist" comes to mind here too), it cheapens the word's meaning when you eventually have to use it on someone who truly is evil or racist. I hope that makes sense. My tastes lean more towards black powder and shotguns (nothing exotic a 12 and 20 gauge). I made a decision when my oldest son was 2 that I wasn't go to have a handgun in the home. The rational was for the weapon to be useful for self defense it would have to be ready in seconds. That made it too available and in too dangerous of a state with kids around. No matter how well I trained them. I do enjoy heading out to a ranch and shooting some of my buddies stuff. The nice thing about living in Texas is so much land to shoot on. The worst thing comparing Illinois to Texas is he cost of hunting. I never paid a fee to a farmer for access. Here a decent lease will cost $2,500 and up.
  2. QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 12:59 PM) Good to hear. Of course, there are some groups out there that bear exception to the rule of being different and not evil, but those should be pretty obvious. And hopefully those types won't be joining our discussion anytime soon. The problem with groups is other people start deciding who is in the group, which may or may not be true. I have a much different image of Mexican immigrants than almost anyone else here. I teach at a school that is 99% Hispanic. I live in an area that is 90% Hispanic. Economically our area thrives because of Mexican tourism. When I group together Mexican immigrants, I see doctors, lawyers, business people, laborers, and almost everything in between. Others around here only group up the lowest wage earning immigrants. Some people group Muslims and only group the extremists, leaving out the majority. Almost everyone here would label me a Dem. But I'm a gun owning, balanced budget wanting, abortion hating, limit social program, Dem. So I bristle when I hear Dems think this or Dems think that.
  3. QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 12:55 PM) Never said the US didn't have Debt.. I was discussing America in the beginning and understanding which debt b**** was talking about.
  4. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 12:34 PM) I guess I'll flip back and forth between this and the Bears game. why bother?
  5. QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 12:47 PM) Because each side manages to find enough examples to support their arguments, and this evidence will keep their beliefs entrenched even in the face of opposing evidence. Politics has been around for a long time. Why are there debates on anything anymore? Maybe because there aren't any absolutely correct answers. For instance, I have my evidence for widespread gun ownership and someone else will have their evidence in support of gun control. It's just different angles that we're coming from. I totally believe my stances and will argue against all comers, but that doesn't mean the opposition is evil or ignorant. They're just different people coming from different backgrounds and philosophies. Just my two cents. We found some common ground, I agree 100%.
  6. Thank you, just checking. What they needed to do in the face of all that debt was cut taxes to the wealthiest Americans
  7. SS, great point about the danger of comparing two numbers that were derived from different methodology. Balta, kudos for the graph. Question, have we not learned much about economies in the past 80 years? Is it still such and inexact science that improving on the results from the depression isn't possible? Why is there even a debate as to what to do?
  8. Wait, the season is still going on?
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 12:14 PM) And you realize our country was started with massive debt right? Would you please elaborate? What are you considering as the start?
  10. Exactly. And we don't need to offer incentives to businesses for hiring people. There are all sorts of jobs out there, it's just people don't want to work.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 11:37 AM) If the economy is "turned around" and the stimulus "worked" why do we need a 3rd stimulus plan? Because it was part of a process? You could just keep going back and back and back. Why did we need one of Bush's plan worked? Why did he need one if Clinton's worked? Why did he need one . . .
  12. very good idea
  13. If companies were allowed to operate without any regulations in this country would supply and demand be enough to assure safe working conditions? Would it be enough to assure safe products for consumers? Would it be enough to protect workers from companies cheating them out of wages? I don't think anyone here would argue that there should be no regulations, it is the degree of regulations that can, and should, be debated.
  14. QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 10:21 AM) I don't like pandering to anyone. And I hate Fred Phelps. Once again, you prove why you are the most hyperbolic person on this forum. Anyways, I'd love to stay and chat, but I'm off to the range. Gonna commemorate 9/11 by shooting my SIG 556 at pictures of hippies. America...f*** yeah! I guess we'll add people from 50 years ago to the list of things you hate. So much hate in your life. But again, a very useful tool in your line of work. And enjoy the destruction of shooting. Do you ever wonder why you get such a thrill out of destroying things? Why you have such a need to prove your manhood? Do you ever wonder why you feel so threatened when you see pictures of hippies? And I am off to teach some youngsters how to burn an American flag
  15. QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 10:03 AM) Keep it up, you big drama queen. Besides, with his "party over country" rhetoric, Barack Obama does the same thing. Those who agree with him are patriots, those who don't are putting "party over country", instead of simply vowing to stop policies they find to be bad. Hey you big lug, thank you for giving us an exhaustive list of all things you hate. Hate is probably necessary in your line of work.
  16. So you don't like pandering to the feelings of Muslims, do you have an issues with Rev. Phelps, a good Christian minister or should we pander to the feelings of his targets, gays, soldiers, etc.
  17. I am so glad that our military training is working. At some point Infantry will need to kill people. Desensitizing him to the fact that they are humans would not be helpful. Training him to look at foreign flags as insulting and Muslims as less than human, is probably a necessity. Keep up the good work. remember there are two kinds of people in the world, Patriotic Americans (those that agree with you) and targets!
  18. Should we treat each year the same? I don't think we could. The choices then would either be to offer this full onslaught every year, or continue to have smaller remembrances. At this point should we have a full feature remembrance of Pearl Harbor every year? Or mark the "round number" anniversaries? Or has too much time elapsed and Pearl Harbor just isn't important anymore? We are coming up on Civil War 150 year anniversaries. Should we have had 150 yearly Gettysburg Ceremonies, or is it appropriate to mark anniversaries every 25 or 50 years? I will not be glued to my TV today. I will be reading student assignments, sorting through some backpacking gear, reading Moby Dick. But I have paused to remember. I have said a small prayer for the families of the victims and said a silent thanks to all the public safety workers who daily protect myself and my family.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 07:56 AM) lol at the bolded. Yes, it's still up for debate. The scientific research to find at least one good Muslim hasn't concluded. I hope one day we do confirm that there is in fact a good Muslim on this planet. SMH Might go down as your douchiest comment on this site. nicely played sir. And kudos to both for navigating the proper uses of there and your.
  20. OMG, I could just hear the roar if Obama suggested there was nothing the government should do.
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 07:36 AM) Wow, yeah, totally misused the word. I know what I mean. The word alludes me right now. We remember 9/11 every year. Are we supposed to remember it on a more profound level because it's the ten-year anniversary? Do we mourn it less next year because the 11-year anniversary doesn't sound as sexy as the 10-year anniversary? Yes. Human nature. We find order in chaos. Humans group things. It is one of the things that separates us from other primates. Interesting if you really think about it.
  22. The Anniversary is here today and the skeptic in me is wondering how much of this is motivated by profit peer pressure heartfelt and sincere emotions
  23. Texsox replied to Capn12's topic in SLaM
That's going to raise some serious coin.
  24. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 05:01 AM) Football. And that's the ONLY reason. And when I'm all footballed out; tv goin' off. I don't need to be bombarded with 9-11 overkill just because of the mythical 10-year anniversary. I don't want to hear about conspiracy #1373262423. No more "how has America changed since then?" It hasn't changed at all (well, other than tighter, and in some cases ridiculous, airport security protocol). I don't care what celebrities think. I don't care that bomb-sniffing dogs have been named after victims. It just goes on and on. Understandable. Mythical? No it actually did happen and this actually is the 10th Anniversary, unlike the moon landing and Elvis' death, I don't believe the government faked this one. You may have meant monumental, epic, or similar. btw, two words that people seem to confuse are historic and historical. Events are historic when they are noteworthy, important, etc. Items that have to do with history are historical. As an example, the events of 9/11 are historic, the films and documentaries are historical.
  25. Accidental humor. These two pictures were back to back on my fb newsfeed
