  1. It's not about what I want, it's about what the nation needs -- Perry 2012
  2. I liked Newt's witty remark about GE, I thought he came off much less ivory tower than I'd seen him in the past. I agreed in principle when he stated that green tax credits are loopholes, disagreed that those needed to be closed. Perry is a few months behind the others, he's getting comfortable with this new level of campaigning, and gaining fast. I was also grading papers, so I skipped watching some of the candidates.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 09:15 PM) Forgot to mention him... to me, he may be the only guy up there who made positive ground in the debate. I thought he did very well.
  4. Were y'all watching the same debate? Perry
  5. Hmm, Miss Universe or Republican debate? One has really good answers to tough questions, the other is a bunch of politicians.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 02:12 AM) Seriously. f*** you, can I piss? In your wheaties it seems like
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 09:53 AM) They completely ignored them when they were being accumulated to fund policies they preferred. I agree and I don't know if you are talking about Dems or GOPers.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 09:00 AM) Then explain how Reagan was the first President to turn the US into a debtor. During the Reagan years both parties learned they could get what they want. Reagan wanted a massive run up in military spending, the Dems wanted some nifty new social programs, let's have both! No worries about tax increases or spending money on one or the other. Let's have both! If you vote for X we'll vote for Y. And the public loved it. Something for everyone. Congress had nice approval ratings. Reagan was the Teflon King. It was all good during his time. Now, of course it wasn't Reagan alone, he had plenty of spendaholics on both sides of the aisle in Congress to go along with him.
  10. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 10:54 PM) Exactly...he keeps reaching to fix a previous f*** up. Reactive instead of proactive. So he should be proactive and fix what isn't broken and ignore the problems? What GM does that? Every GM is trying to shore up weak spots first.

  12. I think it's time to break up the KW / Oz tandem, they are not working together I think Oz is the one to go I do not believe another manager would have this team in first I think KW had the right mix this season, but no one could reliably predicted Dunn's season, Peavy Problems, etc The solution to big contracts is never sign a quality veteran.
  13. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 09:38 PM) That's just it...EVERY move Kenny has made has been out of seemingly desperation. That's not what successful teams do. They only appear that way when players flame out beyond anyone's most negative expectations.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 08:35 PM) Unless they could get an attack done on Ground Zero or a football game, I think you get many more large soft targets when people go back to work. I agree with you. Plus, adding another date would be a further reminder.
  15. Was this a full weekend b-day celebration?
  16. Texsox replied to Texsox's topic in SLaM
My little form of torture involves the can I instead of may I. As in can I go to the bathroom? I assume you know how. Now please sit down and get back to work. Or Can I go to the bathroom? Can you tuck in your shirt (a school rule I rarely enforce except in these cases).
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 07:25 PM) I'll be honest, with 9/11 being a Sunday, an attack didn't really make sense. It makes much more sense on Monday or Tuesday. Plenty of targets for the weekend. But I think you are correct.
  18. QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 07:25 PM) Kind of goes in line with what I said earlier about different perspectives and circumstances, eh? I might not be as pro-gun as I am if my childhood had included such a tragedy. Either way, again, I can't fault you for your decision. It didn't make me anti-gun, just much more safety conscious. There was some debate whether his death was accidental or he intended to kill himself. Either way, I saw the look in his father's eyes and knew I would never wish that on anyone. Kids do dumb things for a lot of reasons from peer pressure to a lack of maturity. I'd rather take a chance on an intruder getting past my security system than risk a ready to fire handgun. I even toyed with the idea of having one unloaded around thinking I could bluff my way past someone. But in my mind that scenario always ended with two guys facing each other and scared the other is going to shoot. In that scenario, I wanted to be able to shoot for real.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 07:22 PM) They didn't have a federal income tax until the 20th century. And see how well that worked. Originally, under the Articles of Confederation, the government wasn't allowed to collect taxes at all. It was strictly a local matter.
  20. I explored the options in 1990 and wasn't comfortable with them. I also lived in a low crime area, so I wasn't too worried about a home break in. I preferred a monitored security system. My thinking was I needed to be able to grab it in under 15 seconds, while half asleep, and be ready. That meant loaded and ready. My bedroom set had a couple hidden compartments, and I rigged one to take an extra step to open, but in the end, I just wasn't comfortable with kids around. It basically stopped me from shooting handguns and I guess I never really looked back. It's a personal choice and I know I am one of the few gun owners that leaned that way. When I was a junior in high school a little kid who lived next door to my girlfriend killed himself with his parent's gun, so I know that is a big factor in weighing the risks. We have world class dove shooting in the area. With the King ranch just north of me and some other lesser known, but just as nice ranches close by, there is a lot of interesting hunting opportunities.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 03:46 PM) A little off topic but interesting if you work downtown. Would the Sears Tower have survived 9/11? Thanks for posting.
  22. Having three players not pan out isn't unusual for a GM. What makes this unusual is they are three of the highest paid guys on the team. I wouldn't call them bad decisions, there was a gamble or two in there, but the Dunn signing was solid, and turned out to be perhaps the worst signing of the past ten years.
  23. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 06:05 PM) I really hope KW gets the boot. Peavy, Dunn, Rios. all s***ty signings. So when the team is desperate for a DH how will you handle a GM who says a Dunn type player is about to have a major league all-time record for futility?
  24. Going into this year I would be very optimistic Peavy would have a much better season and something around 150-180 innings. Now I see how a player could be "dunn" and actually get much, much, worse.
  25. Happy Birthday(s)!!
