    First Credit Card

Read one of Dave Ramsey's books and think three or four times about starting any credit card. If you really want to start down that road, start with something really safe like a department store card. Fill out a JCPenny application. They have pretty easy standards. Best of all, you can't use it for drinks with the buddies, a vacation, tickets to a ball game, etc. At worse you may go over at Christmas or something buying gifts. If you do decided on a Visa or MC, only take a $500 loc and see how well you do for a year or so paying off the balance every month. Balta is a very rare consumer with his history. If he was a random message board dude I would raise the bs flag. But I know he's legit. The bank credit card industry has spent hundreds of millions of dollars convincing people they need a credit card to do anything in life. They have been very successful in that. There will be a dozen replied talking about how essential it is to have credit cards. Listen to them and their stories then Read one of Dave Ramsey's books and think three or four times about starting any credit card.
  2. As soon as the Cubs had a winning, playoff team, former Sox fans would be backing the blue pinstripes in droves, if any of them would still alive.
  3. It would also depend on if they kept the name or not. The Vegas Winns would probably not hold as many fans as the Vegas White Sox.
  4. QUOTE (OilCan @ May 10, 2011 -> 07:29 PM) My near-by choices would be the Rangers or the Astros. And death is not an option. UGH. Don't want to think of no ball on the South Side. I would probably watch more Ranger games. I still prefer the AL. There are also some historical parallels between the two teams. I guess it would be very much like basketball, if someone asked what team I like, I would say the Bulls, but I could tell you way more about the Spurs than the Bulls. Hell, I probably know more about the Mavs than the Bulls. Still I spent way too much time in the upper balcony of the stadium to stop following the Bulls. Same as the Sox. It would be a marketing dream for the Cubs. I could see all sorts of promotions to win over new fans.
  5. knitting is boring, so I post.
  6. Almost every town here in the Rio Grande Valley has an Economic Development group that works like crazy to lure your businesses down here to the sunny south where there are no state income taxes. I believe high earning execs like that perk. They also like the low housing costs, access to household staff at reasonable prices. They can buy a condo on South Padre, country club membership, and move most of their operations into Mexico to save on labor costs. We enjoy flying owners and top execs down for a few days, maybe have their families join them for the weekend. So yeah, stop your state from offering incentives for businesses to stay there, please.
  7. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ May 10, 2011 -> 11:53 AM) Frankly, I would guess the show discourages probably 0 pregnancies. I really doubt that many teens are going to be thinking of 16 and pregnant just before sex. Societal norms and taboos are powerful behavioral regulators. Take away the taboo and stigma about being 16 and pregnant and more people will get pregnant. Same as any other behavior.
  8. I feel the need to post in this thread
  9. Another team would have stopped the skid sooner.
  10. Yes! a couple Sox victories
  11. Instead of the team being a religion, how about a Christian school? Notre Dame, Boston College, BYU, SMU, or a Jewish college like Brandeis. And I saw this somewhere else, I forgot where Dear New Al Qaeda #1 Seal you real soon! USA
  12. What does that say about a person when the only way they can express themselves is by insulting people? Seems like such a small thing to not use hurtful words, I'm not certain what LBJ would have lost by using a different word, maybe he has a very limited vocabulary.
  13. Also playing the field will help Paulie. My vote that yes he would get in is depended, in a fairly large way, in the voters rewarding the clean guys.
  14. Yeah, I do hate some people. What we now know. Dad died a year ago. Mom remarried and her and the new guy took off, leaving him with his 18 year old sister who is pregnant. The sister had been living on her own for a while. I was told when he received the money and gift cards he cried he was so happy. He's a real humble kid and doesn't want anyone to know.
  15. I was at a conference where one of the speakers was Jordan Hanes.
  16. It won't be his body. His body is being held along with the aliens we've captured.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 9, 2011 -> 09:11 AM) I disagree with you guys. I think if he reaches the 500 HR milestone, he will definitely make the HoF, and I think he gets in because the writers will reward him for being a clean player in an era of dirty players. Maybe not definitely, but I'd place his chances at 80% or better.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2011 -> 11:41 AM) Do you have any ability to check with ICE or if you do that will that wind up having the kids deported as well? I am staying out of that end of the investigation. I went and picked up a WalMart gift card for them. A few people have asked where to send donations, if you are so moved, they can be mailed to the school Contact me for the address Thank you.
  19. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ May 9, 2011 -> 10:58 AM) Just curious but how did they get into school? We teach everyone who shows up. If you can walk through out doors, we will do our best to teach you.
  20. QUOTE (Capn12 @ May 9, 2011 -> 09:04 AM) Yep, sorry...I avoid the Buster at all costs, so I'm post-style noobish over here! I shoulda figured, but dang my fingers got to work before I could think about it. That is a key 'buster posting technique employed by almost everyone here.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2011 -> 07:56 AM) I'll bet you money, you grab stuff from the news and spin it for your history class daily to make historical points. Not from a partisan stand point. I take great pains to avoid that. As much as possible I make connections between current events around the world and how it is done in the US. So when riots were breaking out all over northern Africa, I showed how many peaceful transitions of power the US had while some of these dictators were in power. When there are protests in the US we discuss 1st Amendment protections. We discussed why it was OK in the US to challenge the President to prove his citizenship, and how that would get someone arrested, or worse, in other countries. I didn't discuss any partisan motives for the challenges. I'm talking about reducing politics to a sporting event. Perhaps it is because we don't take it seriously enough. Today, there are some people that want the country to fail so they can say I told you so. There are some people who cannot accept that "their" party has done anything wrong or the other party may be right. Do we benefit from any of that? I believe in our diversity comes strength. I appreciate that our Constitution makes change very, very, difficult. That we don't have a one party political system. I appreciate our checks and balances, our freedom of the press, our separation of powers.
  22. When anything that happens, good or bad, is soon hijacked and spun for or against one political party? It seems like the past couple decades Americans would rather trash anything good the other party does or excuse anything bad their party does. It seems that we're all about scoring points for our team, even if it is bad for our country.
  23. ctfu is just one acronym that people use while texting, these are also known as initialisms. Knowledge is Power!
