  1. Known World, The ( to fit the format)
  2. Interesting book I'm reading.
  3. Great, after heading to the store I just realized I forgot the main thing I went for.
  4. Even with a pre-nup it will be expensive.
  5. QUOTE (Knackattack @ May 8, 2011 -> 11:53 AM) You should probably spell grammar correctly if you're going to make a comment about some one else's..
  6. Can't be, Paul is dead . . .
  7. QUOTE (knightni @ May 8, 2011 -> 11:31 AM) I heard that Beckham wanted to sign it, but he couldn't keep his eye on the ball. Dunn tried but kept missing the ball. Walker tried to help him, but it only made it worse.
  8. And how is everyone today?
  9. I forgot, what do we do in a Sox Winner thread?
  10. Yesterday was a nice day. We drove over to South Padre for a meeting at the summer camp. We finalized plans for the two new buildings to be placed on site in the next couple weeks, a new flag structure with crow's nest, redesigned the tent platforms to accommodate a wider range of tents, received a commitment to add a new sidewalk to an area we lost to hurricane Dolly. I spoke to the caterer about this summer and he's on board. That was all before a nice lunch at one of our favorite lunch spots on the island. A little shopping, dinner at an Italian restaurant, and home late.
  11. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 7, 2011 -> 04:36 PM) You're friends with President Obama? He's everyone's friend . . .
  12. Well this almost died the slow, natural death a thread should follow. Imagine months ago it would have been impossible to write something this detailed and long without SS or Balta having already responded and the thread be at P by now. Instead there can be a nice unhurried response. I'm even going to head into the kitchen and make a cup of coffee. I'm thinking Timothys or perhaps Caribou Morning Blend. I really like my Keurig brewer. Back and hmm, nothing like a delicious cup of coffee in the early hours. In a couple hours we'll be loading up the car and heading to the beach for the day. We need to stop at the Boy Scout camp for a quick meeting, then probably have lunch at Blackbeard's or Daddys. Later a long walk on the beach, I don't think I'll be pulling out any surfboards today.
  13. QUOTE (Jake @ May 6, 2011 -> 07:26 PM) I think people just try to make the most of a negative situation. s***, I'm pregnant, might as well try and get paid then! Not, let's make a baby so there's an outside chance I'm the one teen pregnancy chosen for television! I am certain there is a lot of that. But look at how kids dress, act, etc. it is all influenced by pop culture. When the culture celebrates something, it encourages that behavior. That's been going on forever. That's why products use celebrity endorsements. Be like MJ and wear Hanes. Be like the girls on TV. How many kids went out and did jackass stunts?
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 6, 2011 -> 07:39 PM) Any chance the parents were arrested? Yes. But here are the two categories I can think of 1. Arrested, deported, basically alive and forced to be away, and decided not telling the kids, decided that not taking the kids with was better for the kids. 2. Dead and no one could trace them back to the kids. I can't think of a scenario where they are alive and are staying away, or not getting word to the kids, where it is actually better for the kids.
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ May 6, 2011 -> 07:00 PM) Someone needs to adopt them. How are they living in their home? No one's been paying the mortgage/rent. We're arranging a home visit, but in many of the colonias around here, basically families will build a cinder block home, use an old travel trailer, old sheets of metal, etc. They can't get traditional financing, so it's build as they can afford it.
  16. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ May 6, 2011 -> 06:21 PM) Wow... that is a heart breaking story. Is it for sure that the parents abandoned them and not that something happened to them? We're starting to wonder. No one has asked if they took clothes, etc. Like I said the summer school and general state of his cleanliness and clothes had people starting to wonder what was going on. The administrator that talked to him was really broken up, and he's heard every kind of story imaginable.
  17. Y'all know there are a lot of girls choosing to get pregnant. And one of my 8th graders gave birth a month or so ago. A lot of her classmates thought it was cool and wished it could be them. We have so many teen moms the school district has a full time teacher just to visit all the girls and help them with their homework.
  18. They have no idea what happened to their parents. They did not go to the police when their parents went missing because they feared being arrested themselves, something their parents taught them. The only program is a one way ticket to Mexico. It was decided because his sister is an adult we do not have to report them yet. I'm picking up a few gift cards to Walmart and a local grocery store. We found out because he was trying to get sent to summer school. He's passing all his subjects, so we figured there was something going on.
  19. Shortly before school was out we received an email from our 8th grade administrator. The past couple months we noticed one boy was not his usual self. We finally found out what the problem was. Seems as if his parents took off around Christmas and left him and his barely 18 year old sister to fend for themselves. To make matters worse, they are undocumented, and without a social security number they do not receive any benefits. Outside of the breakfast and lunch we serve here, he isn't eating much. The kids do not remember living anywhere else than here. WTF, how can these kids be deported? Where would they go? They do not know any relatives here or in Mexico. Drop them off at the bridge and say goodbye? Man, I just can't stand to see kids hurt like this. It took me 45 minutes to be able to type this out, I was hoping it would help, but I think I'll just go home and cry for a few hours.
  20. The problem with being "all in" is there is nothing left to toss in and they don't let you pull out.
  21. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110505/ap_on_...al_hero_warship I am humbled and grateful that someone like this was fighting for our country. RIP
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 5, 2011 -> 04:42 PM) Dude, first of all China owns less than 10% of U.S. debt, most of it is held by the Federal Reserve and private U.S. investors. Secondly, if China stopped buying U.S. debt, it'd be a good thing for the U.S. economy and a very bad thing for the Chinese manufacturing market. I believe the point he is making is we actually borrow that money for them. Which is kind of interesting, if debt is so damn good for a country, why don't they just borrow it themselves?
  23. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 5, 2011 -> 04:34 PM) Well then I don't "care" if they care, and no one else should. I'll only care if they choose to do something about it, which I'm sure they won't. I'm not certain I care either. But to invade a sovereign nation should not be taken lightly and is exactly the kind of actions that causes us to be hated around the globe. Eventually all that hate may really hurt us.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 5, 2011 -> 04:22 PM) If Pakistan is Angry, I'd suggest the first thing they should do is turn down the $3 billion we give them in aid every year out of protest. Otherwise, they aren't really angry. Care = angry? The question is why would they care. But yes, I will take your bait. You can be angry at someone you care about. In fact, your parents may have been angry at you, that doesn't mean they were going to give you back to the stork.
  25. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 5, 2011 -> 01:37 PM) Another "well, that's not right" news story (didn't know where else to put this without starting a new topic): http://techland.time.com/2011/05/05/father...letter-techland I'd be more than happy to impose the death penalty on this guy. I'd flip the switch myself. You know in principle I'm against the death penalty, but I wouldn't waste any time or effort to spare that idiot. Providing he wasn't suffering from a mental disease or defect.
