  1. I was at a conference where one of the speakers was Jordan Hanes.
  2. It won't be his body. His body is being held along with the aliens we've captured.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 9, 2011 -> 09:11 AM) I disagree with you guys. I think if he reaches the 500 HR milestone, he will definitely make the HoF, and I think he gets in because the writers will reward him for being a clean player in an era of dirty players. Maybe not definitely, but I'd place his chances at 80% or better.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2011 -> 11:41 AM) Do you have any ability to check with ICE or if you do that will that wind up having the kids deported as well? I am staying out of that end of the investigation. I went and picked up a WalMart gift card for them. A few people have asked where to send donations, if you are so moved, they can be mailed to the school Contact me for the address Thank you.
  5. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ May 9, 2011 -> 10:58 AM) Just curious but how did they get into school? We teach everyone who shows up. If you can walk through out doors, we will do our best to teach you.
  6. QUOTE (Capn12 @ May 9, 2011 -> 09:04 AM) Yep, sorry...I avoid the Buster at all costs, so I'm post-style noobish over here! I shoulda figured, but dang my fingers got to work before I could think about it. That is a key 'buster posting technique employed by almost everyone here.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2011 -> 07:56 AM) I'll bet you money, you grab stuff from the news and spin it for your history class daily to make historical points. Not from a partisan stand point. I take great pains to avoid that. As much as possible I make connections between current events around the world and how it is done in the US. So when riots were breaking out all over northern Africa, I showed how many peaceful transitions of power the US had while some of these dictators were in power. When there are protests in the US we discuss 1st Amendment protections. We discussed why it was OK in the US to challenge the President to prove his citizenship, and how that would get someone arrested, or worse, in other countries. I didn't discuss any partisan motives for the challenges. I'm talking about reducing politics to a sporting event. Perhaps it is because we don't take it seriously enough. Today, there are some people that want the country to fail so they can say I told you so. There are some people who cannot accept that "their" party has done anything wrong or the other party may be right. Do we benefit from any of that? I believe in our diversity comes strength. I appreciate that our Constitution makes change very, very, difficult. That we don't have a one party political system. I appreciate our checks and balances, our freedom of the press, our separation of powers.
  8. When anything that happens, good or bad, is soon hijacked and spun for or against one political party? It seems like the past couple decades Americans would rather trash anything good the other party does or excuse anything bad their party does. It seems that we're all about scoring points for our team, even if it is bad for our country.
  9. ctfu is just one acronym that people use while texting, these are also known as initialisms. Knowledge is Power!
  10. Yes!
  11. Known World, The ( to fit the format)
  12. Interesting book I'm reading.
  13. Great, after heading to the store I just realized I forgot the main thing I went for.
  14. Even with a pre-nup it will be expensive.
  15. QUOTE (Knackattack @ May 8, 2011 -> 11:53 AM) You should probably spell grammar correctly if you're going to make a comment about some one else's..
  16. Can't be, Paul is dead . . .
  17. QUOTE (knightni @ May 8, 2011 -> 11:31 AM) I heard that Beckham wanted to sign it, but he couldn't keep his eye on the ball. Dunn tried but kept missing the ball. Walker tried to help him, but it only made it worse.
  18. And how is everyone today?
  19. I forgot, what do we do in a Sox Winner thread?
  20. Yesterday was a nice day. We drove over to South Padre for a meeting at the summer camp. We finalized plans for the two new buildings to be placed on site in the next couple weeks, a new flag structure with crow's nest, redesigned the tent platforms to accommodate a wider range of tents, received a commitment to add a new sidewalk to an area we lost to hurricane Dolly. I spoke to the caterer about this summer and he's on board. That was all before a nice lunch at one of our favorite lunch spots on the island. A little shopping, dinner at an Italian restaurant, and home late.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 7, 2011 -> 04:36 PM) You're friends with President Obama? He's everyone's friend . . .
  22. Well this almost died the slow, natural death a thread should follow. Imagine months ago it would have been impossible to write something this detailed and long without SS or Balta having already responded and the thread be at P by now. Instead there can be a nice unhurried response. I'm even going to head into the kitchen and make a cup of coffee. I'm thinking Timothys or perhaps Caribou Morning Blend. I really like my Keurig brewer. Back and hmm, nothing like a delicious cup of coffee in the early hours. In a couple hours we'll be loading up the car and heading to the beach for the day. We need to stop at the Boy Scout camp for a quick meeting, then probably have lunch at Blackbeard's or Daddys. Later a long walk on the beach, I don't think I'll be pulling out any surfboards today.
  23. QUOTE (Jake @ May 6, 2011 -> 07:26 PM) I think people just try to make the most of a negative situation. s***, I'm pregnant, might as well try and get paid then! Not, let's make a baby so there's an outside chance I'm the one teen pregnancy chosen for television! I am certain there is a lot of that. But look at how kids dress, act, etc. it is all influenced by pop culture. When the culture celebrates something, it encourages that behavior. That's been going on forever. That's why products use celebrity endorsements. Be like MJ and wear Hanes. Be like the girls on TV. How many kids went out and did jackass stunts?
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 6, 2011 -> 07:39 PM) Any chance the parents were arrested? Yes. But here are the two categories I can think of 1. Arrested, deported, basically alive and forced to be away, and decided not telling the kids, decided that not taking the kids with was better for the kids. 2. Dead and no one could trace them back to the kids. I can't think of a scenario where they are alive and are staying away, or not getting word to the kids, where it is actually better for the kids.
  25. QUOTE (knightni @ May 6, 2011 -> 07:00 PM) Someone needs to adopt them. How are they living in their home? No one's been paying the mortgage/rent. We're arranging a home visit, but in many of the colonias around here, basically families will build a cinder block home, use an old travel trailer, old sheets of metal, etc. They can't get traditional financing, so it's build as they can afford it.
