  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 2, 2011 -> 08:31 PM) Again, I agree if this were a different guy. But this is enemy of the world #1. It's not some nobody we're celebrating here. Agreed. But the celebrations will feed anti-American sentiments and help in their recruiting efforts.
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 2, 2011 -> 08:30 PM) I think it's more us coming across as a bunch of barbarous, blood-thirsty douchebags that we're always complaining about. Which could take those people "on the fence" and move them to America is evil and wants all Muslims dead point of view. And yeah, we are pretty damn good at killing people for good reasons, just ask most of the countries that have pissed us off.
  3. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 2, 2011 -> 08:22 PM) I love how we're concerned about pissing off people that want to kill us. I could be wrong, but I believe it is more of a concern of pissing off the people that don't want to kill us but could be convinced we are evil and should be killed. We keep creating more enemies and wondering why the world gets more dangerous. Contrast the President's speech, which was very carefully written to not only not celebrate, but not to piss off too many people and point out the evil Bin Laden has inflicted on everyone, not just Americans. Again, I am not wanting to say those waving flags and singing were wrong, just trying to keep the dialog moving along and fostering understanding.
  4. The west wing of the white house ten days ago . . . "Mr. President, we need something bold and decisive now that you announced you are running for reelection. How about we get serious about killing Osama Bin Laden?" "Damn, we've been trying for 9 years, we've had all of our best people looking for him. I just think it is futile. What else you got?" "Well the Sox are 6 games back and really struggling, maybe we could right that ship" "Get Gates on the phone, I have an idea about that Bin Laden . . . "
  5. USA USA USA
  6. I'm not saying any reaction is right or wrong. On 9/11 there was an outpouring of Americans, of all ages, races, creeds, religions, all with about the same reaction. The celebrations I saw last night where mostly young people 18-25. Perhaps it was the time of the announcement. But while there was a very common respond to the 9/11 attacks, our responses seem to be much different to his death.
  7. So what are we giving the Pakistanis in return for them giving him up?
  8. Hell just added another resident
  9. I hear where some of y'all are coming from. It was a war ending kind of street celebration, yet the war really hasn't ended. It probably didn't help that it seemed like many were celebrating for the sake of celebrating. I was expecting a more somber, remember those that died, kind of mood. But the spontaneity of the celebrations was very cool, and I believe genuine for the majority of people.
  10. The details of the intelligence that brought him down are starting to emerge. It seems the feds found him because of facebook, he kept getting tagged in photos taken at the compound, and his top aids kept answering "15 questions about Osama". The CIA chief said he probably would have been ok when he only friended those closest to him, but once he started playing Farmville, he needed so many friends he was friending just about everyone.
  11. So I hear that Osama kept posting pics and getting tagged in photos of the compound, but what really gave him away was the "I answered 15 questions about Osama" game his top advisors kept playing.
  12. Obama to address the nation shortly
  13. I had the college requirement waved because I worked in Mexico for a few years. If not, I would have been screwed. When I worked in Mexico the single guys all picked up Spanish much quicker than the married guys. It must have been because they had more time to practice.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 1, 2011 -> 08:20 PM) I just don't understand the constant pounding Walker takes not only here but just about everywhere and most years, including this one, the White Sox hitters are ranked higher than the White Sox pitchers even though on average, a lot more money is spent on the pitchers. Cooper gets no crap at all, in fact, just the opposite. That's an excellent point, it probably has to do with the team having so many sluggers through his years.
  15. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 1, 2011 -> 08:11 PM) I figured the "isn't directed at you" part would've cleared that up Well damn, my sincere apologies, it was me who didn't read this clearly enough.
  16. We have baseball fans here, we have Sox fans here, and we have Sox supporters here. There should be room for all, and all believe the way they enjoy the game is the best. I get to a game and I relax and enjoy the show. From little league to mlb, it's all good to me. Some people like to get mad, throw things at the scream, boo the players, etc. That seems silly to me, but have at it. Others stay away until the team is winning, but follow the team in newspapers and watch on TV, others will forget about the team until they start winning, then jump on the bandwagon, still other will support the team financially by buying tickets no matter what. It's all good in my book.
  17. Naw kid you suck at baseball. The last thing I want to do is watch you wiff. hey dad, tell me again about the days when Chicago had two teams . . .

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 1, 2011 -> 07:41 PM) In the last 4 games the Sox would have had to have scored at least 13,11,7 and 7 to win. You can blame the hitting coach all you want, but firing Greg Walker isn't going to make the Sox record better. That's a very good point, but you can't ignore one problem because you have another. The team can work on more than one problem at a time.
  19. Hey dad, will you take me to a baseball game this year? Naw, I keep telling you, we only go to games when the team is winning . . .
  20. I've paid to watch high school, college, minor, independent league, and major league baseball. I've sat in the stands and watch little league games. I've been to major league games without the Sox playing. Baseball is a great sport and I enjoy going to the games. Even with a couple crappy teams playing, exciting plays happen. There should be room for fans like me and room for fans that will only buy a ticket when then can expect their team to win. If you are going to have a bad time at the ball park, why go? If you only have fun when your team is winning, than it would be silly for you to buy a ticket when they are not winning. Besides, I think it adds to the fun when a team starts winning and fans suddenly start coming out to the games.
  21. You are correct, it is impossible to know if someone would be 25% better. So, I would rather ride it out with Ozzie than gamble on someone else. Hell, it could be worse.
  22. There isn't a guy 25% better available right now.

They need to sacrifice someone, and it's about time to reassign Walker. He'd be a scapegoat, it probably won't make a huge difference, but JR and or K-Dubya need to make a statement that this is unacceptable.
  24. War has changed. Today's urban warfare will result in increased civilian casualties and, sadly, our acceptance of them. In a world where young children and pregnant women strap on bombs and board buses, it seems that anything goes. In 1775 the US won our independence by changing warfare, we started shooting at commanders. The British were mortified that we would use sharpshooters to take out their leaders. Now everyone on a battlefield is fair game. Again, in the Revolutionary War US employed snipers hiding in trees, again, it totally was against all acceptable rules of war at that time. Proper rules of war called for you to come out of the woods and fight in formation. In the Civil War, instead of the armies producing everything they needed, civilians were employed in factories building weapons and ammunitions. Union forces destroyed a broad swath of the south in what became Sherman's March to the Sea, thus eliminating the Confederacy's ability to feed its citizens and support a war effort. Again, the US changed the rules of war. Of course I am not saying this is right, just passing on my opinion as to where modern warfare is going. I pray I am wrong.

Gee Marty there was an entire thread to predictions http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=80585 I don't see yours there? Did you post it somewhere else? Or is this going to be an "I told my friend" kind of thing?
