U.S. launches airstrikes on Libya
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 12:22 PM) Yes. Welcome to the USA, AKA the World Police Department. It's been like this for a long time now...did you think your pal Obama was gonna play the game differently or something? Will we always pick the rebels or can we sometimes pick the current governments?

U.S. launches airstrikes on Libya
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 12:08 PM) And of course most Arab countries are going to be flighty about their support in this. Most of them are no better than Gaddafi, they now realize that they are next on the list and maybe they should have supported Gaddafi killing his citizens instead of siding with the west and giving the people freedom. To late now, Middle Eastern Arabs are getting to taste freedom and many of them will realize that they have the power to free themselves. What makes anyone believe that they will have freedom, or that the next regime will allow citizens to be free?

Illinois enacts Internet sales tax law
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 12:53 PM) Im not unhappy with it, it doesn't affect me. However, what you said holds no water...because if this law was in place BEFORE these businesses were built up and created 10 years ago before e-commerce was an everyday reality, these businesses wouldn't be threatening to leave or leaving (or closing shop because Amazon has now abandoned them). So There should have been a law in place *before* those businesses started? How the hell do you create a law for a business that wasn't even a reality?

U.S. launches airstrikes on Libya
Will we stretch our own resources to the [point where they cannot respond to a threat to the US? How many different countries shall we go into until we are bankrupt and unable to defend ourselves? At least some Russian President can come to the border and tell some US President to teat down a wall lol

If there wasn't a chance, why was anyone close enough to foul? The problem, IMHO, is different refs call it different and some defensive players will take advantage of the belief that a foul should not be called. If every ref called it, then the defensive players would have backed off. He gambled on a no call and lost. And yes, I'd rather that call have not been made.

Illinois enacts Internet sales tax law
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 09:09 AM) But the companies do employ people who pay taxes on just about everything they purchase(except Amazon). If they close up shop and go elsewhere, the people go elsewhere or collect unemployment. Great argument to eliminate all taxes except income tax.

U.S. launches airstrikes on Libya
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 08:41 AM) The last line is a huge exaggeration. More accurate would have been using the civil war, or more accurately, something like Sherman's march to the sea. Death penalty either way. But ok. It is an exaggeration. How many civil wars has the US stayed out of? What makes this one different? How many military coupes have we sat out?

I agree on all accounts. There is a problem, IMHO, on a business model that seemingly is built around not paying state sales tax.

U.S. launches airstrikes on Libya
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 12:20 AM) The problem with the argument that you dont accept killing Libyan people to stop the killing, is that there is no other solution. The US, the UN, etc asked Gaddafi to step down. They asked him to accept a cease fire so that the killing stopped on both sides. Gaddafi continued to advance and threatened to massacre the people of Benghazi. In terms of money spent, can you put a price on doing the right thing? Those weapons were already built. If they dont use it, eventually it will need to be replaced by a newer better version, might as well use the weapons to do some good in the world and justify the price the US already paid. Yes, you can put a price on doing the right thing. We have with our neighbor Mexico. We are so panicked that Mexican Nationals will bankrupt this country by coming here to work, we are building a wall to keep us protected. Yet we have hundreds of billions of dollars to fight battles against Muslims. It's curious we have not had to fight any battles against English speaking countries or Christians in the past 100 years. I guess it comes down to who gets to decide who lives and dies. The current government in Libya or someone else. Could you image some country using Kent State or Ruby Ridge as justification to attack the US? Texas and many other states have sent thousands of criminals to death, how is that different than other countries doing the same?

Are you suggesting then fees come close to sales tax in total dollars? They might, but I find that hard to believe. We could find a source but it seems to me that income tax and sales tax are huge compared to any fees. It really comes down to how nice of a state you want to live in. What kind of roads do you want to drive on, how nice of schools you want your kids educated in. How well maintained you want bridges and railroad crossings. How many cops you want on the streets. It does become tiring paying taxes, but most Americans want the best of everything, and expect 1st Class service while paying coach fares.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 19, 2011 -> 10:11 PM) There aren't enough doctors nurses and such now. All you will do is overwork the current ones unless you want to lower the standard and decrease the quality. It will increase the market for drugs however and it will help that industry alot. It's the chicken and egg argument. Without someone paying for the treatments we will never have enough. With more money into the system, there can be more nurses, PAs, and technicians. And yes, probably doctors. I'd rather see an increase in care being performed by nurses and PAs. Now back to death and destruction in the name of saving lives.

U.S. launches airstrikes on Libya
QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 19, 2011 -> 09:26 PM) Healthcare doesn't provide jobs or bring money into the economy. War does. We need to replace the Tomahawk missiles we fired and the government will pay American companies to build. I'm not saying it's right or wrong just that it will keep jobs and money rolling. It seems like healthcare provides a lot of jobs for nurses, techs, doctors, and everyone working at a hospital or clinic. Toss in designing and manufacturing medical equipment, supplies, etc and you have some nice jobs and money coming into the economy. But I see and agree with your point as well.

Another blank check. We can't afford health care for the people in America but we can burn a few more billion in military aid.
