Drugs. Get something from the doc to knock you out for most of the flight.
  2. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 22, 2010 -> 11:50 AM) Wow, don't let someone derail a thread calling 2005 a fluke. I thought Mike North was the only idiot to believe that. Now there are two. Teams change rosters so much that repeats are getting non existent. Please refrain from calling people idiots. Depending on how someone defines fluke, them yes, a once in 100 years could easily be called a fluke.
  3. I'm not going to debate word meanings, so fluke or not, he did prove that for one season, it could be good. Will a change make a difference? Probably. But I really doubt it will make a huge difference. Averages aren't suddenly going to shoot up. You need the horses on the field. Having said that, I'd like to see a shakeup. I think Ozzie needs to make a couple moves to solidify his employment for next season. It's almost a cliche. A shakeup of the coaching staff before the skipper walks the plank.
  4. I am watching a History Channel show and a couple NY mayors were on and I realized that mayor of NY would be an awesome job when things are going well. But there are so many other choices.
  5. Not only we they know them by the end of class, but the elected officials will know them when we start mailing letters and emails.
  6. So I was speaking with my 8th graders and asked who their Mayor is. 2 in 105 actually knew his name. A small handful incorrectly guessed the previous mayor. They walked/rode past literally dozens of signs on their way to school last year. County Judge (head of county gov't) zero Governor? about 5 or 6 Senators? Zero Congressman? 1 President? about half. BTW when they say the Pledge of Allegiance they are looking at the flag and a picture of the President. Kids, kids, kids

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 20, 2010 -> 10:36 AM) I'd have to say my main hobby is doing crossword puzzles. Collecting music (and listening to it, obviously) is another big one. I download just about any song I've ever heard, even if I don't like it. I listen to music all the time...not sure how I could even live without music. I also enjoy doing smaller maintenance work around my house and my parents' house. Would not have seen that one coming.

  12. To reject all players from non playoff rosters would mean that none of those players have any value. Once you accept that players have value for a team, then you have to accept that someone on that team could have the most value. It takes more than one guy to make the baseball playoffs. To suggest that a player who (to use an extreme example) bats .400 + 30-30 can't win the award because he team doesn't make the playoffs is silly.
  13. I thought the piece was very well written, well thought out. The reactions around here priceless comedy.
  14. Lots of food and mariachi music around my school today. Viva La Mexico
  15. I thought it was an individual, not a team award. When you have a stout lineup, one capable to making the playoffs, it makes it harder for teams to pitch around you, you have guys arounbd you making you look good. If you are having the kind of season that gets noticed for an individual award like MVP, and your team is having a missing the playoff season, you really did blossum in all that fertilizer.
  16. I went with the Samsung Galaxy (Vibrant on T-Mo). So far I am liking the phone. I've been with T-Mo for about six years and have never really had a problem. They took care of my crappy Dash several times.
  17. I'll start thinking like that in December, Maybe January QUOTE (bobryansson @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 09:37 PM) The players performance, though not right now what we want, is not because they are lazy or don't care. Baseball's hard and they're playing better than most everybody. They are going to win around 90 games. They've even played well recently. Twins have just played lights out. We do have young talent. Some perspective. Hindsight is always easy. They're still my team, and I get frustrated, sure, but I love 'em.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 11:20 PM) Can I live vicariously through you? Only if you're willing to shoot yourself in the ass if necessary
  19. What problems have you been having with T-Mo? I have been with them for years without any real complaints other than my Dash sucks as a phone. I am thisclose to picking up the Samsung Vibrant today and going a couple more years with them.

  21. If we signed guys just to stop Minny from getting them, well that's kind of silly. As it turned out yeah having Thome probably would have made this race closer. But the decision to not sign *Thome* AT THE TIME was not that bad of a decision. It's almost like going back to a draft after 5 years and figuring out who should have been drafted. But honestly, I believe if we did sign Thome, we'd still be in this spot and people would be ripping on K-Dubya and Oz for going into the season with an aging DH who couldn't play full time.
  22. This kid is amazing and coachable. We discussed a strategy for the race, I explained about being patient at the start with 150 runners all heading for the same turn. At 1/4 mile he was in 30th place out of 150. At the 1/2 mile mark he was in 1st, by the end of the race, which was dropped to 1.2 miles, he was 30 seconds clear of the field and just cruising along. I'm going to start running him against 8th grade for the last couple meets before our district meet to get him some extra work.
  23. I have one of the top 7th graders in the state running for me. I thought I was nervous when I ran, I'm dying right now getting ready for a huge meet today. He'll be running against a couple hundred local kids at 2 miles. He had been racing 1,500 over the summer. I've been pointing him towards our district meet in October, but it is hard to not want him to just win every race. I also recognize he probably needs me the least, I have twenty five other runners to worry about as well.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 02:49 PM) That problem doesn't always go away when you are married. You get stupid stuff like "you're not an authorized user" or "your name isn't on the account". Kind of, but I learned the hard way that when you are married, a spouse can open an account using your SS# and you are liable. For example, if you mother f***ing psycho b**** soon to be exwife, living in her own place, can't get a f***ing electric account in her name because the stupid b**** can't balance a check book and bounced dozens of checks, she can open one in your name and SS#, legally. Later when she stops paying the bill, they will shut off your totally up to date, never been late, electricity because you didn't pay *her* damn bill (which you never authorized to be in your name). All this without you even knowing she's behind and your account could be shut off. not that I'm still angry or anything.
