My next birthday will be so nifty Tex will be the big fifty I really do not feel like it at all. I wonder sometimes how old my students think I am.
  2. I'm purposely avoiding talking about a small town mayor, state rep, etc. I'm talking Congress, Senate, Governors, and major city Mayors. Do they have to be a little dishonest to keep their office? Do they have to bend a few ethics rules? Is raising campaign money always a dishonest process? What standards can we realistically hold our officials to?

Living in sin and loving it. I checked off engaged because we will probably do some legal thing sometime. It has really brought home some of Rex's points about gay marriages. I see how frustrating simple things are when you are living together, in a very committed relationship, and the electric company won't talk to you because you aren't married.
  4. Actually I am planning on this as a gift for my girlfriend. None of those newfangled gadgets for me.

And isn't the goal of a grassroots effort to gain powerful supporters?
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 12:31 PM) Jim Thome recently moved to Minneapolis and has been highly successful at his new job, at least thats what I have been hearing. damn you, I didn't want to laugh.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 11:24 AM) Oh please. You could propose a plan for health care right here in this forum, and I could label it StrangeCare - is that an insult? I just don't see it. I believe it is used as an insult way more than a neutral label.
  8. While I usually dislike unitaskers, especially in electronics, this is one where I'd want the best format and screen for reading, no compromises.
  9. I am thinking of getting one and wondering what anyone is using one and what they think.
  10. Happy Birthday WinoDJ

Every university I know of consider it a terminal degree, thus holders are eligible to become professors.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) I am both happy and sad. Same here. I remember when his dad died, I was really young, but I remember thinking "who else knows how to be major?". So basically anyone under 25 really doesn't know Chicago without him as mayor.

This may get ugly quickly, but I'm interested.
  15. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 08:51 PM) You all are the ones who have to bash what a piece of s*** every tea party candidate is, and redefine what "racist" is now, not me. Don't sell yourself short, you've done a nice job of helping to define racist and tea party around here
  16. So we had Tropical Storm Hermine paying us a visit. The coastal schools decided to not open school today. They decided that mid day yesterday. My district, fortyfive or so miles inland, made no announcement. As I was driving in this morning I hear my school was not going to open until 10:00 am. So I'm here three hours early. At least I have some paperwork to catch up on. Of course I started with soxtalk lol
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 4, 2010 -> 02:10 PM) It was actually Dustys test to see if his pitchers needed to come out of a game. If he could get his hand above his shoulder, he wasn't tired enough yet and kept pitching. I didn't bother to read this until today, glad I ventured in lmao
  18. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 07:02 AM) I just read a story about some guy on the Jets who ended his holdout because he got a new contract. My question is this. HOW can a player, who has a contract, NOT show up to camp and play because he wants a new one? If the player is signed to a three year deal, and after the second year decides he doesn't like the last year terms and doesn't show up to play, isn't he in breach of contract? Could the team, if it wanted to, sue his ass for the entire value of the contract for failure to perform? I just don't get that aspect of things. Anyone have answers? They don't have to sue him, they would not have to pay him for not playing. If he is threatening to retire, which basically he is, the team does not have to pay him. For him to have to pay the team, wouldn't the team have to show some damages? I can't see the team suing him, forcing him to play. Now of course we are talking the contractual part of the equation. I wish more teams would just let the guy go. When both sides sign a contract, they hope they are getting a bargain. If the player sucks, the player is overpaid, and in a sense "wins" the negotiation. If the player does better than expected, the team wins. Accept the results and live with it.

Are you certain the videos are still up? IIRC Youtube was going through and deleting copyright material that was not uploaded by the rights owners.

OMG, I have the stud runner of South Texas 7th graders. The kid comes with his own personal coach. He was sitting around tenth place at the half way point and decided he wanted to run from the front, made a move, opened up about a 100 yard lead and cruised to a :30 second victory. It was an opening race of only one mile, he clocked a 5:54, second place was in at 6:29. A few of the high school kids were egging him on, telling him someone was closing. Dammit if he didn't have another gear he was kicking it into. I had him back off and cruise, the main race is Oct 21 and I want him healthy for that.
