QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 12:10 PM) Have fun in Chitown Tex. Get yourself a good beef sammy for old times sake. Done. Still need a Lou's deep dish and a Scotty's hotdog.

I can't find the thread but I know we have someone who works for one of the tour companies. I will be in town Wednesday and Friday and want to take a trip. Which company was prefered and any tips?
  4. I am not certain that civilian control really stops a military coup. While at times having a civilian making some of these decisions seems to be odd, I do appreciate that check and balance. While driving around today I'm going to be thinking about some of the decisions that Presidents have had to make and see if those Presidents with "real military experience" have done any better or worse than those without military experience. I'm not certain which group to put little Bush.
  5. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 09:36 PM) Take her to the Sox/A's game this Friday because I will be in town for it!! As a matter of fact it is mullet night and my cousin's band Hairbangers Ball is playing. I picked up some sweet tickets last night.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 02:10 PM) It just goes to show the gigantic role pitchers play with CS percentages. Yep. It also shows how under-rated AJ is and how much attention is played to offensive production.
  7. QUOTE (3E8 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 10:15 AM) Don't sit in the upper deck Ist row UD between home and third with access to all areas. She's been to the Juicebox in Houston for an Astros game but this will be her first to the Cell.
  8. I have not been to the Cell in a couple seasons now, any suggestions for taking a fan to their first game at the Cell?
  9. I just spent a week along the Natchez Trace Parkway with side trips to Vicksburg and Shiloh National Military Parks. These are all run by the National Park Service (Government employees). From the early phone calls when we began planning the trip to being on the site, customer service was first class. All the information was delivered via my very friendly and efficient postal carrier. The parks were very well maintained, the interpretive presentations were well produced and delivered. I have also recently had to contact Social Security twice on matters and both times my questions were answered quickly and completely with additional information mailed to me. I will also admit, while the IRS was shoving an audit and tax lien up my ass, they too did it in a professional and timely manner. Shall I also mention our military? While we may agree or disagree about their missions, they are the best in the world. I know it is easy to talk about how our government employees suck, but I believe they are much like the private sector. Some may be better than others, but overall, I think they do a fine job.

They had to be eating something, probably other bugs. I wonder how the crew slept . . .
  11. I've always loved the Who, so Pete and John are on the list. Eddie is hard to leave off any list. Clapton and BB are also pretty solid. Honestly, at times it is more than the sound that gets to me.

The process is simple. People complain. Mods and Admins read through the posts, and a decision is made. Usually there are mods and admins on all sides.
  13. QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 09:42 PM) They also crossed my mind, but for a different reason. Would be curious as to see what ticket prices would be along with the hype. Is was about 7 or 8 years ago when The Eagles toured, a friend told me that tickets were going for $250.00. I know some Beatles freaks that would pay absolutely ANTYHING if they were to go on tour. Heck, they had a nation wide countdown just for one new song (Free As A Bird) when Anthology was shown on TV. Could you imagine what the hype would be along with how much they would gross on a world tour with a new album?? Great point, it would be interesting. I wonder if they would even really tour in the sense. I could see a month in NY, a month in London, Rio, perhaps back in the USSR, etc. The world would come to them.
  14. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 09:04 PM) Hey, it says Texas Republicans. And the fact that such a place in Texas exists baffles the mind. A Democratic Texas? All over the border region and the cities. As the GOP starts losing their more moderate members, a Dem will have a chance.
  15. I'd have to say the Beatles, especially to see what their song writing would be as grandparents.
  16. I'm in a growing corner of Texas that is about 90% Democrat thank you very much.
  17. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 08:31 PM) Because the executive branch doesn't have that kind of authority. Also, as imperfect as it is, for 220 years, the judicial system is the way that claims of this nature are handled. Whine about Exxon Valdez all you want, but that's a hell of a lot better then a dictate from one man telling blackmailing a company. I see the point. So is the worry BP is paying too little or too much and perhaps too soon before the damages can be fully understood? Has BP sued yet to block the government doing this? Sounds much like condemnation of land (something the government has been doing for almost 220 years). Don't like the condemnation, go to court and seek redress.
  18. Fine, let BP go through the courts and perhaps get a refund. But geez, it sounded to me like a great idea and if the GOP wanted to make points, claim it was too damn little. I can't believe this is going to help them with voters. I think they misplayed this one. In fact, this could have been a great time to stand behind the Pres and show how they will always do the right thing and pout politics behind them. Saving pelicans and sea turtles and the jobs along the coast seems like an easy thing to get behind.
  19. It will be the same roller coaster as the first half only with a playoff spot on the line, the ups and downs will be brutal. With a week to go, three teams will have a realistic chance.
  20. Lately people dying have been huge bummers to me. One of the bigger than life owners of sports teams.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 02:02 PM) God I have had some bad nights at Pippens. Good bar, just rough nights. WestEnd is actually having a crazy promo today. If you show up before the All star game tonight, and you have to chose the AL or NL. If your team wins and you stay to the end of the game, they pick up your tab. Wow, crazy. Without meeting them, I know I like the owners. I'd hedge my bets, get with a group and run two tabs. Start drinking hard on the winning tab and hope some come from behind non sense doesn't happen.

If I cobbled together all my favorite bars it would . . . be on South Padre's Laguna Madre Side. (Palm Street, Louies, Steamers, Amberjacks etc) have dozens of interesting beers on tap (Tap Room, Roosevelts) be able to mix a great tropical drink (Still looking, my own bar for now) have a singer/songwriter (Louies)
  23. Could someone in a nutshell explain to me, besides that it's a Dem® President doing it, that forcing BP to put $$$$$$ up to pay for damages is a bad thing?
  24. Looking to see if anyone predicted this, I first checked the "I am Drunk" thread
  25. He looked out his window and saw thieves stealing his trailer. At that moment he decided that trailer was worth risking his life to keep. He grabbed his gun, left his house, to confront the thieves. At that point we have three people locked in a potentially deadly battle over a trailer. Once the thieves started driving they were either fleeing the gun wielding owner, or they decided the trailer was worth killing over. (this is one hell of a trailer). Society, with their laws, has already decided that trailer was not worth dying over. Without even knowing anything about that trailer, or any trinket for that matter, the laws were stacked against the owner. Society did not want anyone dead in this matter and has enacted laws to keep that from happening. Maybe we could change the law to you can kill anyone you believe is stealing your stuff, we'll sort out the bodies and penalties later.
