  1. That has been my slight defense of Hahn. To have as many players have dog years as we did was hard to predict. They play average we are a playoff team. The improve and we're a step away. Instead moving trucks are loading up.
  2. I'm always in favor of numbers over potential with young players.
  3. 2005 through 2023 based on a couple unofficial sites that aggregated the numbers. 13 times above MLB average, six times below Top 5 payroll four times, bottom 5 twice. Average position over those years 13.33 so slightly above average. Lowest payrolls from 2014 until 2019 where they were in the bottom third of all teams every year. Highest from 2006 until 2013 where they averages just over 6th highest. 2022 rank 7th 2023 rank 10th My hunch is (barring a change in ownership) we're about to go through a three to five year stretch of bottom 10 payrolls followed by increasing spending. When they go cheap, they go really cheap. Will we ever return to a top 5 payroll? I don't thing so based on the new market conditions. While I was surprised that we've spent in the past as much as we did, I just can't see it happening again. What does it say about JR caring about winning? Maybe be stopped in 2014? Maybe he'll open the wallet when there is a window.
  4. https://www.stevetheump.com/Payrolls.htm Maybe it's accurate. Yes, there are years of very low spending but there are also years of high spending. I think the problem isn't how much but on whom.
  5. Haven't we had payrolls in the top ten many years and even as high as fifth?
  6. Let's lose a hundred by 4-1 instead of 6-1. The games are over quicker. With the draft rules in place winning 75 won't be bad. Overall they are making small moves but nothing too stupid. We didn't expect a big splash signing. Project 2026 has commenced.
  7. I received an email from the Sox that I'm first in line for tickets, came here and read this. Y'all can cut in line.
  8. I'm inclined to agree with you. I want to be the insurance rep on that contract. Huge commission.
  9. Time for an upper and lower division. Sixteen teams in each. Bottom two teams move down each year. Let more cities have a chance at some success.
  10. That's been his twenty year plan. Hey let's stop winning, these parades give me a head ache.
  11. Jerry had a deep dish pizza delivered from Lou's. Let's follow his every move like Ohtani lol
  12. My hunch has been each team has about the same number of dedicated fans and it's not that greatn of a number. Maybe 20% of the fans that will engage with one of the teams. After that it's, take it or leave it maybe go to a game or do something else, convenience, standings, star player in town, but they would go to either one. It's all fighting for what some would call the band wagon jumpers. I did most of my baseball entertaining at Sox games. Dinner and a game without the buyer leaving their office early was easier than a game and dinner in most cases.
  13. Ohtani finally figured out that Canadian to US dollar app. ?
  14. Yep. The Jays phone lines will be jammed Monday morning with cancellations.
  15. Bob pulls back the sheets to discover pillows. Fooled again.
  16. One of our posters enjoyed the signing a bit more than the rest of us.
  17. Lmao. This has been the best thread of the off season.
  18. Ironically Shohei would be out of the limelight in Toronto
  19. How much of that goes away if he's injured or just playing average?
  20. That was my thought. It is a great city based on a couple of times I visited. Fans will go crazy no matter where he is. Even if there are four more teams in the state or even one across town.
