  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 01:58 PM) And people thought I was crazy for saying from day one that "Jobs Saved" was an impossible number to prove. Perhaps some did. I think it is the same with jobs created, impossible to prove, especially if we try a one to one causality. There are just too many factors to control. I think we can look at trends and within a range see what growth or loss we have. But, last I looked economics was an inexact science. But slowing growth or slowing loss is a real thing, it does happen. But you are right, proving exact numbers just ain't going to happen. So why do so many people want that number?
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 01:41 PM) You lost me. Which part?
  3. The Republicans would of had a field day talking about Obama's nanny state, socialist agenda wanting to own people's houses. No way that proposal would have passed. Plus, who were you helping and what could they later do for politicians runing for office? Money >>>>> votes.
  4. Had the Eagles at the top of "my list".
  5. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 01:31 PM) Rush made my cut and ELO wasn't even close. Didn't mean to bring you down, Bruce! Wasn't the list suppose to be alphabetical?
  6. I could have pulled about 25 different names out of the hat for 5-20 and been happy with the pick and position. It also has changed dramatically the past 10 or so years. I went with mostly mainstream acts except for voting Brian Anderson #1.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) For my money, the Twins are last, and the Royals are a step above. Let me put it this way, who was the last big named player the Twins have brought in? Good analysis, Either one seems like a huge stretch. I just had a very hard time thinking of Manny in a Royals uniform.

Start with a paint manufacturer and work backwards. Call their consumer hot line, explain the project, and see which paint and process they recommend. You will need to know the material and finish of the coin. I'd pick a broad based paint manufacturer like Rustoleum as a start. You may also find yourself at an auto parts shop.
  9. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 11:52 AM) ELO is great, and this reminds me that I left them off of my list...Rush, too. ELO is on my list and Rush just missed.
  10. f*** it, this made my brain hurt

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 11:00 AM) Well, there are easily 8 types of pie, 15 cookies, 25 different table desserts, 20-30 chocolate desserts, brownie desserts, special cakes, etc. Exactly, do if we have 85 desserts each getting one or two votes . . . I like the lotto idea. I think the dessert can work, we just need some parameter so that there is a balance between choice and enough votes so that the difference between the #1 and #25 isn't 2 votes.
  12. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 11:09 AM) Why do people think being a vocal leader meaning only pointing out the negative things and getting in someone's face? You can be a vocal leader and help teammates adjust. Give him some of your own personal input. Help clear a teammates mind. When Everett was on the squad, you didn't hear about him complaining left and right and that's it. But he was the vocal leader of the squad because he would tell you what you needed to hear. PK & Dye, especially don't do that. I don't consider AJ a leader because I don't think he wants that tag and he doesn't strike me as that type of guy. Buehrle is kind of the same. He just wants to be one of the guys. We need an Orlando Cabrera. We need a Carl Everett. Look at the two teams playing in the playoffs. They have a strong vocal leader in each clubhouse. Rollions and Jeter. OK, let me change to, I don't think a veteran player should have to have a cheerleader in his face if he doesn't want it. Give the guy some respect. A leader should have more than one approach based on who he is trying to lead. Perhaps there are some guys that need a kick, some a carrot, and some you should just stay away from. Perhaps we have too many one trick leaders in the club house.
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 10:46 AM) Everyone started out in the minors at one time or another. Who would you rather have, Brad Lidge or Daniel Hudson? I'm not following you. My point is veterans should do not want someone in their face should not have to have someone in their face. At this point in their career, they know what they need to do.

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 10:48 AM) Sports announcers is too limited. The Bears idea is fair, but we've done quite a few athletes lists. No one likes the holiday dessert idea? I like the idea, but what do you think the final list will look like? I think we may two for this one, a vote for that one, etc. My mom makes a special cake at Christmas, that would be my first choice, but no one else would have it. If we call them all "cake" then how many different desserts will there be?
  15. Yeah, when a veteran player is struggling they should lose all respect and accept getting their ass smoked by other players. It's not like they deserve any respect for all they have done in their career.
  16. Texsox replied to knightni's topic in SLaM
Local team sports announcers Bears players (best, favorite) I think the list should have between 50 and 75 possibilities but not many less or many more.
  17. breakfast was sweet potato pancakes with a hint of cinnamon and pure maple syrup.
  18. If the abortion becomes complicated and requires a hospital stay, I wonder how quick Doctors will be to ask the parents to pay the bill. Let's be fair, if we want kids to make these decisions without telling their parents, then parents should not be held responsible for their children after that age (15 or whatever age we determine they can make decisions).
  19. At 16 you can have a driver's license, a Doctor still needs parental consent to treat injuries from a car accident. Parents are still responsible for their minor children, they can be fined and jailed if the student does not attend school. They can be jailed if they do not provide medical attention when necessary. If we are keeping parents responsible for their kids, we owe it to parents to inform them of what is happening to their children.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 01:08 PM) I could also see it being Detroit. They don't seem to mind lazy malcontents up there. If it is a team in the AL Central, I'd think the chances are from least likely to most likely Royals>Sox>Twins>Indians>Tigers And if there is some misrepresentation in the article, a little misdirection, I could see some team in the east, not NYY or Bos, perhaps looking at the gate possibilities with Manny in their uniform. Edit to add: my best guess is Manny or his agent planted the story, possibly his current team.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 03:10 PM) We had unofficial halloween down here last weekend. Me and a few of my buddies went as a bunch of senile old men. It was awesome. That's me on the right, and yes I shaved my head for it. FlaSoxxJim thinks he was there, but he doesn't remember . . .
