  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 15, 2009 -> 03:00 PM) So, could be a hoax. Or, could be the boy wasn't in it at all and ran off. Or, could be the boy fell out. None are good things, but I sure as hell hope it isn't the last one. I'm guessing the kid untethered it, got scared, and is hiding. He probably is terrified his parents are going to punish him. Or, someone abducted him and used the balloon as a diversion.
  2. Dad is a meteorologist and used the balloon for weather related study. It is not a passenger balloon, in fact, one expert felt confident the balloon was incapable of lifting an adult and expressed doubt it could have lifted a 6 year old. (CNN reporting) and for Falcon, Moon Unit Zappa says hello
  3. landed softly. No word on the kid
  4. scary after learning some of the details. Prayers for the kid

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 12:41 PM) Persephone and Pluto shared a pomegranate penchant one night. I realize I'm mixing my Greek and Roman pantheons, but the song called for the alliteration. I thought this was the alphabetic thread and we were on "P" I was about to post quit showing off Professor Jim
  6. I believe if left to their natural choices, we'd see far more Lieberman-eque leaders. Lose coolitions based on around certain issues that ebb and flow, no one can be that lock step with a party.
  7. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 12:21 PM) f*** that. Just put up some crappy website, it'll get votes. Right? You kids love the interweb right? see, the GOP is cool now. The problem the GOP will always have is conservative usually means clinging to your parent's or grandparent's world. That's a tough sell to a 20 year old. 1950s tax rate 1950s television 1950s marriage 1950s "gay rights" 1950s gun ownership 1950s business regulations 1950s prayer in schools etc etc etc And I;m not saying that I wouldn't also embrace keeping a number of things the same, just saying that improve the world is an easier message to sell than "leave everything the same, it's already as good as it will get".

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 12:01 PM) The moon landings were a couple years too early for me. Old man. Yep, I have some black and white memories.
  9. And if you truly believe in your party's ideals and platform, you want that lock step voting. You know there are Dem party officios who dream of having that control over their membership.
  10. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) The courage would be if she was facing a tough reelection fight and still voted that way. Voting against her party may result in a rough primary

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 11:11 AM) Oh yeah, forgot about Challenger. I remember seeing that in school - everyone was watching because of the teacher aboard. Of the major space events of my life, at lest as dtermined by the media coverage, the moon landings had a bigger impact than the notable failures.
  12. I can't believe how competitive this gets
  13. funny, if I didn't stop to edit I may have been n order

Computers and networking (communications) 9/11 Hybridization and cultivation of crops resulting in huge advancements in yields. Reagan makes us feel invincible after Nixon/Ford/Iranian hostages. Kennedy assassination and achieving goal of landing a man on the moon. Just missing were the various "rights" movements that continue today.
  15. quite happ[y if he makes a passable brew, experiment
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 08:47 AM) They are reporting events as they happen. If stories about Acorn and the like are the most occurring thing, that is what is going to be reported. The numbers are going to skew towards whatever is hot. That is their job. I would think you know that the President's job is a little bit different. ^^ exactly ^^
  17. oh my, I'm just buying him a chemistry set. What he uses it for is his business lol
  18. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 08:42 AM) And that was over 20 years ago...I thought things were supposed to be different now? Better players, better tools, but the basic play doesn't change. Clinton even pulled it off for a while, until it left a stain on a blue dress.
  19. QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 08:38 AM) Not really, her and Collins are in a position where they can do whatever they want. And add that to why I applaud her.
  20. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 08:34 AM) We don't like to talk about that. Focus on the positive, ignoring any negatives that positive might create. Didn't you get the memo? Reagan wrote that play over twenty years ago, why is it so hard to follow?
  21. knowledge is power, and beer is not just for breakfast anymore.
  22. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 11:04 AM) For some reason the reply/quote isn't working on this post, BigSqwert. I'm not exactly a Rick Perry fan. I know that you've spent a little time down here... Perry's a legend in his own mind and it drives me crazy. If he gets re-elected, he will be governor for 16+ years. That's too long. Although I think a lot of people are trying to push him into running for president in 2012. Please don't and say you did, Mr. Perry. I actually like Perry for a term or two. Well actually I liked him better as a young Dem. Sadly, we really haven't had a candidate from the left that could really challenge him. So it will be up to the GOP to field an alternate that can beat him in the primary.
