  1. Needing some headlines for the July 4th weekend?
  2. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 08:30 PM) I got IM'd by three different people this time when we moved servers. Can you unban me please? WTF? Sorry . . .
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 08:30 PM) BTW, KW is supposedly trying to make a deal very soon (according to Will Carroll) When is K-Dub not trying to make a deal?
  4. There was a time in 2006, and possibly into 2007, when I thought BA could blossom outside of the Sox organization. Now I think at some point he will be with 5 teams in 5 years and just kind of hang around.
  5. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 08:10 PM) Who on this board were the shamelessly pro-Pods supporters at that point? That was one brave stance to take. shamelessly pro-Pods? I was pro-Pods with reservations.
  6. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 08:08 PM) What an incredible pickup that Scotty Pods was for us. x2
  7. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 07:06 PM) That's your opinion... So far Obama hasn't done anything to disprove that he is the Devil, a socialist, a fascist, has no respect for the constitution, wants to takeover America, wants to completely undo what the founders did, etc..... but that's just my opinion. And what have you done to disprove that you aren't a socialist, fascist, homophobe? Proving that you aren't something is impossible.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) She's not just not running, she's resigning. You can just as easily say she is backing out of her commitment to alaskans. Plus she could've tried to accomplish more in a year to stiffen up her policy resume. Good point. I guess I am not buying the resigning part.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 01:38 PM) And now the Senate wants to fine you if you opt of out of the health insurance plan... The interesting part is that since they include the illegals in their numbers of the "uninsured" does that mean the Senate is going to fine illegal aliens for not taking up the Governmental health insurance plan to pay for it? http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/articl...ZHW-ywD996MDGG1 Seems like a trial balloon. I wonder how many will be launched before any of this becomes an official recommendation or *gasps* we see it in black and white on a proposal.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 02:54 PM) I can't think of any examples of this happening though. By not running and then running for President? It would answer those critics that argue when someone runs for President while holding office, they are cheating their constituents of leadership.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) Its great to be a writer. Now if he would actually talk about who would want him, and what they would give up, you might be able to call this "speculation and opinion". *fixed You have a very excellent point, I am hoping to highlight the very fine line that writers have to follow. That type of article can easily become rumor mongering etc.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 02:51 PM) Hopefully... That way she can not be considered a front runner for President, like some like to think. Yep, I see the Dems taking a play from the GOP playbook on Hillary and keep repeating she's the GOP front runner, etc. How embarrassing if they do.
  13. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) Juicy scandal brewing? She can create a better base for a Presidential run freed from her role as Governor.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 01:44 PM) I like the difference in style between the leagues as well. I'd be sad to see either style go. Perhaps. But as much of a traditionalist I am in everything else, I really prefer the DH. I'd rather pull my nails out than watch some pitcher take three weak swings and sit down.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 24, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) Not sure where else to put this... The Border Patrol sees an issue with the dense vegetation alone some stretches of the Rio Grande that are being used as hiding places for bandits. So, they want to get rid of the vegetation in some places. Now, that idea has some problems in and of itself - it will have an effect on erosion and waterflow of the river. But, national security probably should take precedence. Here is where it gets just plain stupid. Their plan is to poison the vegetation along a pilot mile stretch. Poison? Seriously? Its a riverbank, morons, you want to poison the river? These areas are high desert or chapparal, which burn over naturally every so often anyway... why not do that? Why introduce a toxin which will have unknown negative effects, instead of using the mechanism that nature does? Ugh. The rape and plunder of the southern border area has gotten to the point where I can't get to excited over any plan. It is just brutal. The rest of the US places no value on this region at all.
  16. I'd be in favor of dropping them all. As long as we held a lifetime edge against the Cubs
  17. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 11:16 PM) jealous. i can't even fall asleep on flights when i've gotten 3 hours of sleep the night before and i've been up for 18 hours... which was the case last time i was on a plane. brutal. Same here. On a flight from Atlanta to Myrtle Beach I lost the ability to sleep on a plane. I developed this sensation of "falling" while almost falling asleep. Falling and being at 33,000 feet is not compatible. I'll wake up with a startled look and I think I just screamed. Prior to that I was flying weekly for my work. I could fall asleep while taxiing.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 12:08 PM) Was that Kaperbole? Were you actually agreeing with me and Krugman? I can't tell. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 12:35 PM) I'm agreeing with you. /faint
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 12:24 PM) The scouting scandals occur with unknown Latin American players....these Cubans are guys that play on the World stage all year long at a professional level. All high-level baseball officials have a grasp of who these guys are, unlike some 16 year old ss from some tiny town in Venezuela that no one has really seen before. Then I wonder why there are so many questions about this guy.
  20. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 11:58 AM) I don't even know if they got approval for a new stadium yet.... one of the Florida teams really needs to move out of Florida. Neither get good attendance (until the playoffs) and I'd prefer to see the Rays get moved mainly because they have such a gay name. Rays (of sunshine) is probably the gayest name of any team in sports. I say you move the Marlins to Orlando (keep them as the Florida Marlins) and build them a kickass stadium. Places in and around Orlando are big tourist attractions, and if you put a team there, you can get a lot of tourists in your ball park. Lets go to Universal Studios one day, and a Marlins game the next! I didn't know there were gay and straight names.
  21. Let us also remember we aren't that far removed from the scouting scandals. I'm guessing the organization is going to move really carefully before opening up the check book.
  22. Texsox replied to maggsmaggs's topic in SLaM
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 11:37 AM) What show is that? In my opinion, the best pie (although its name says it's not actually a pie) is cheesecake. I mean, everything about it seems like a pie, except its name. Twin Peaks Directed by David Lynch
  23. Not at the Cell, but when Milwaukee was still in the A.L. I had "Bud's seats" first row, right next to the Sox on-deck circle. Most notable that day was Ozzie had one of those days where he just crushed the ball, all right at someone or was a victim of what would later be known as a sportscenter play of the day. The fourth time he came to bat, with runners on first and third, he lined one up the middle, which was caught, and the guy at first was doubled up. Oz, running towards the dugout, takes his helmet off with two hands, flings it at the dugout wall as he was running and yells "f*** this mutherf***ing game". I replied, loudly, "his English has come a long way". I also sat in the old Milwaukee press box, which was turned into a "suite" with my son for a couple games. The company I worked for leased all their cars from Selig leasing and they took care of us a few times a year. At the Cell, never anything spectacular.
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 05:35 AM) That would be your conscience talking. If you have no conscience, and you live that lifestyle, you will live in euphoria until the day you get caught. I agreed with both posts. At some point, he probably passed through the guilt and figured he was past getting caught. If not, he could have been gone in the wind with all that money. Then again, perhaps he had squandered most of it.
  25. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 08:07 PM) I work for one of those boat tour companies in Chicago, I'm bombarded daily with idiocy that should have made me insane: "Can the boats sink?" - Did people learn to not say that with that whole Titanic problem? But considering the closest thing any tour boat company has legitimately had since the Eastland (100+ years ago) was the Seadog losing prop and having to beach it nothing has even gone remotely wrong with the integrity of the boats on the lake. It's Lake Michigan, not the Bering Straight. "What if the boat sinks?" - Hope there isn't one lifejacket left and you and I are the last two people without one. "What if I fall off the boat?" - Sharks eat you. "Is it free?" - I'm paid to sit here and sell you a boat ride that is free. Right. I got a funny one a couple weeks ago when Obama was in town (he flies over the lake in his helicopter so they can see what's below them easily). "Which helicopter is Obama in?" It would kind of defeat the purpose of having like 12 helicopters if they told every employee making $10 a hour off Navy Pier which one the President is in. awesome
