  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 10:03 AM) Well that and their policy are out of touch with the majority of the political world. fixed. Too many of these candidates are one-issue myopic and just can not put together a plan in the areas that most of America is also concerned about.
  2. I waffled a few times in voting this time. I literally selected McCain and Obama at different times before pushing the bright VOTE button. I really liked both candidates and wish I could have split my vote 51-49 or some such nonsense. Like many are reporting, as usual we did not have any Republicans running for 95% of the offices here. With a self declared DEM population of roughly 90%, it just isn't worth it. After voting ® Cornyn last time, I switched to (D) Noriega for Senator. I also proudly cast a ballot for my Congressman (D) Hinojosa. Damn fine gentleman who really works hard for South Texas. He has a s***ty, gerrymandered, district (thank you Hammer) and does pretty damn good with it. For those familar with Texas, his district runs from the Mexico border to north of Victoria. About 25 miles wide and 200 miles long. They sliced up South Texas like fajitas. I am excited to see what Obama will do if elected, and have confidence in McCain. Basically, like many players, I believe Obama has the bigger upside, but also the potential to be a bust. I see McCain as the safe pick, an aging veteran who will keep a steady, albeit, unspectacular hand at the wheel.
  3. Unsubscribe from Obama's, McCain's, and every PAC's emails and alerts.
  4. As long as we continue to draft and develop power pull hitters, he's probably fine. I'd like to see a more rounded approach throughout the system. But I've almost given up on seeing that. Like Pulford, he continues to be here and why, I just don't know. Amazing.
  5. Basically almost every group in America now get shielded from comments and jokes and etc. They receive what I'm going to call Politically Correct Protection. Currently, I'm thinking the last groups to get this protection are Mexicans, French, and White Conservative Males (thanks to a couple friends for extending my list) My prediction is the last person in America to be left out of the PC umbrella will be my buddy AlphaDog. The middle class, white, suburban, conservative, male with zero Democrat leanings. He'll be a Letterman punchline for a long time. I was going to say Rush, but he has that great drug addiction to help him out. Nuke, where is he, has the whole Veteran thing that is now in fashion. PA had a chance, and he may still win. We'll have to see how religion plays out. And the media guys will always take care of their own. And who put the P in PC? We know it will not be a politician. So that leaves Alpha. Sorry Bud. Good luck. What say you America?
  6. PA's voting Obama. I am certain of it.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 2, 2008 -> 03:09 PM) Why is just saying something is "Federalist" still a reasonable counterpoint? I really don't care how federalist the system is, right now the only ones who benefit from our current setup are the people who make money off of registrations and the people who benefit from stopping folks from voting. I believe I agree with your over all theme, and I agree quite a bit with SS response. If your theme is "why do we have to stay anchored to the Constitution, etc. I agree. I think after 225 years, we probably have some room to improve over what the framers had in mind. They could not imagine someone in Philadelphia speaking instantly with someone in New York. I agree with SS specific, I favor states handling this. I like to idea of United States.
  8. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Nov 1, 2008 -> 07:36 PM) About what I expected, a family member of Obamas is here illegally, violates election rules and is living in government assisted housing and whoever leaked the info was at fault. Two wrongs don't make a right, but three wrongs will make a right turn. D'Oh of course we will give up any right to privacy as long as we can nail a couple of criminals.
  9. Obama thinks so much of his aunt he allows her to live in public housing and never visits her? It's like he hardly knows her. Shameful. If this was McCain, he probably would just give her one of his seven houses. McCain understands family. Who do you want as President?
  10. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 03:23 PM) If they show up with the aforementioned Guinness, then yes absolutely. Seriously, I'm more along the lines of Tex's prof - the grade you're going to get from me is the grade you earned. Percentage-wise, you've got to be within a percentage point of making a grade before I'll even consider a bump. And you're only going to get that bump if you haven't been a paon in my arse all semester. I sound like a ton of fun, don't I? Do you ever look at the grade distribution in making that determination? What I thought was compelling, beyond the really good tequila, was I earned the second highest total out of 90 students that started. (He posted accumulative points via student ID.) I figured two students should have gotten A's, the rest deserved what they got
  11. I'm not certain if Balta has posted this or not 'Twas the night before elections And all through the town Tempers were flaring Emotions all up and down! I, in my bathrobe With a cat in my lap Had cut off the TV Tired of political crap. When all of a sudden There arose such a noise I peered out of my window Saw Obama and his boys They had come for my wallet They wanted my pay To give to the others Who had not worked a day! He snatched up my money And quick as a wink Jumped back on his bandwagon As I gagged from the stink He then rallied his henchmen Who were pulling his cart I could tell they were out To tear my country apart! ' On Fannie, on Freddie, On Biden and Ayers! On Acorn, On Pelosi' He screamed at the pairs! They took off for his cause And as he flew out of sight I heard him laugh at the nation Who wouldn't stand up and fight! So I leave you to think On this one final note- IF YOU DON'T WANT SOCIALISM GET OUT AND VOTE!!!!
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 02:16 PM) And this is more recent from Barr http://www.bobbarr2008.com/issues/foreign-...-foreign-bases/ Wow. One quote caught my attention The debate becomes how much does a base in X country help to defend America. It certainly is not zero. It would seem we have a strategic advantage to be deployed around the globe. Maybe not at these levels, but it seems to me they help defend America. So I guess I am calling a slight b.s. infraction here. I am a strong believer in trade not aid. And if we are going to offer aid, it should come from products and services from the US of A workers. Not in the form of a check.
  13. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 01:03 PM) I provide my phone number as well, along with a warning not to call me after 10 pm. Email solves most things anyway, unless somebody is bringing in a 6-pack of Guinness as a bribe gift for the prof. Would I have to actually show up to take your class? True story. I knew one of my professors before I was a student. We had a mutual friend and I would occasionally share some stories over some expensive sippin' tequila. When I finally had an opportunity to take one of his classes, I was 13 points short of an A on an 800 point scale. I needed 720 and came up with 707, the second highest score in the class. His reaction when I went to talk to him? Damn, that's too bad, I was really pulling for you. You going to be at the picnic Saturday? I had to love his honesty.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 02:06 PM) Hmmm that could explain some things Ah, the evil misquoter rides in
  15. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 12:19 PM) so wouldnt the internal polls be more favorable to the candidate calling, and the externals less favorable? Yes, probably. Polls are all about managing the error and making sense of what was polled and the results. That's in a perfect world. Candidates report poll results not as an unbiased report, they report poll results to influence the other polls, especially the one coming up Tuesday. Now I'm not saying candidates lie, but you could structure a poll to generate the results you want. You could inject bias in your sampling. Take for example a poll of voter preferences in Cook County. If you want to make a GOP candidate look good, would you poll in Bridgeport or Rolling Meadows? I'm guessing a GOP candidate would poll better in Rolling Meadows. If you are looking for a scientifically unbiased answer, the voter in Rolling Meadows and the voter in Bridgeport would have an equal chance of being polled.
  16. I'm wondering how each child support is calculated. Basically, for example, if you have one child, expect to pay 25%. If you have two, 30%. But that is with the same momma. You can't give 10 different kids each 25%, unless you are a politician making promises.
  17. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 11:56 AM) A serious question... and I'm not picking on McCain here. How can someone's internal polls be so different than the external polls done, in many cases, by professionals? 18. QUOTE (Soxy @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 11:52 AM) Office hours are for undergrads kids--I just harass my profs as needed. Same here and I are an undergrad
  19. That contract doesn't look too bad to me. Especially if you just want to sell some tickets and get close to, but not in, the playoffs.
  20. Looking around 3B is our worse position. In the past five years we have had two guys who have demonstrated they can play adequately at the MLB level when healthy. Problem is, both are question marks health wise. The obvious #1 spot in the depth chart right now has to be the only one under contract, Fields. If healthy, he can be one of the serviceable players on the roster. You can't have all-stars at every position, but he could one of the three or four spots that are just there. Neither great, nor bad. Much like that 4th or 5th starter. Could we be competitive with a "Uribe-type" over there if Fields isn't healthy? I don't think so. The division looks to be pretty tough next year. So, I'm guessing FA is answer. I don't see a trade happening that would help at third without digging another hole elsewhere.
  21. QUOTE (mreye @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 11:28 AM) Oops. I meant to say 32 inch TV. Wishful thinking, I guess. I got a 29" for my ex-wife best.trade.ever
  22. did you make an appointment? I thought that's why he posted office hours?
