Incumbents will not be allowed to campaign beyond stating their accomplishments in office and debate their opponent. You just had time in office, tell me what the hell you did, not what you think you can do next time.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 29, 2008 -> 04:43 PM) Yeah, those are always weird moments - not knowing where you are, laying in the dark. Funny later, but a bit freaky at the time, when you are half asleep. I remember driving through Atlanta and getting really confused and annoyed because the building I use to see on my right as I exited to get to the airport wasn't there. That's when I remembered I was in Myrtle Beach. Yeah, I've always been a moron.

The moment you know you are a true road warrior is waking up in a hotel room and needing to check the phone book to learn what city you are in. Business travel is fun and it sucks at the same time. We live in Generica. Every airport and every hotel looks the same. Same food, same rental cars, same experiences. And there really isn't a chance to discover anything different. You are only there for a brief time, or at least that was the experience I had.

What you listed. I also had a neat program for my Palm Pilot that automatically adjusted time zones, popped up the info on my reservations, etc. after I landed, etc. A decent overnight bag that could be carried on. Hotel books for the two or three chains I stayed at the most.I had a couple magazine subscriptions I would only read on planes. Texas Monthly, Wired, and Esquire. Kept me looking forward to some flights. I think better for me was the habits and routines I got into. I kept two sets of stuff like toiletries so I didn't have to worry about forgetting anything. An extra pair of glasses that were always with me. The most travel I did was for a company out of Mexico, so I was flying out of the same airport, either to Dallas or Houston to connect. I would always take the same flight out of McAllen, no matter what time my connecting was. They knew me which seemed to make it go quicker. I tried as much as possible to stay at the same hotel every time I was in a certain city. Actually my first choice was La Quinta, they worked best for a couple of my most frequent trips. My tickets and boarding passes were always in the same place, etc. God what an anal traveler I was. But I was on a plane almost every Tuesday morning for two years.

QUOTE (MO2005 @ Oct 29, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) Magglio is not going anywhere and even if he does it will definitely not be here! I don't care if he hits .300, his attitude sucks and there is still friction in this organization on this matter. Let's talk about something that is somewhat realistic here please!! Did any of the players take any shots at him when he left? Hell most of them are gone anyways. It would be nice to have a dependable .300 hitter in the line up. I agree, ain't going to happen.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 29, 2008 -> 04:15 PM) Office, not residence, necessarily. Well you learn something new all the time. I always assumed he lived around Chicago and only stayed at the mansion when they were in session. It seemed like Chicago was a better base to get things done. Springfield is a s***ty little commuter flight away. Of course Texas has the best set up, the State offices are in the best city anywhere.

I thought the governor always had an office in Chicago? I recall a meeting in Chicago with Jim Thompson when I was the non voting student rep on my college board.

Who is your favorite politician? Mine would have to be Senator Paul Simon. I always loved his integrity, honesty, and character. He cosponsored the Balanced Budget Amendment. He was a fiscal conservative Democrat who often time mentioned "pay as you go". He was also socially liberal, denounced racism and supported woman's rights. He also led the fight to allow direct student loans, which cut the cost for student borrowers. Some will also credit his endorsement of Obama in launching Obama's rise. We do not see many leaders like him.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 29, 2008 -> 12:29 PM) Do you live in Chicago? The city wouldnt be half as good as it is without the Daley's. Alot of the resurgence of residential development and cleaning up of bad areas of the city is also a great thing Daley has been a part of. I wouldnt want anyone else in charge of the city thats for sure. As far as Illinois, the state needs someone who A. Will actually live in Springfield, and B. Actually knows there is more to the state than just Chicago. By living in Springfield do you mean anywhere other than Chicago / Cook County, or do you mean exactly Springfield?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 29, 2008 -> 02:16 PM) If you followed our planet as an outside for a month or two, would you feel safe landing? I wouldn't fly around Texas, we all have guns and love a challenge

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Oct 29, 2008 -> 01:37 PM) Hell, we know NOW, don't we? Just look at the prediction thread, the polls have already announced the winner. We don't even need to go vote.

I love the theory of keeping the guys coming off crap seasons, aging, etc. because their value is low, and trading the guys who had good seasons because their value is high. Hmm, what does that leave us with?

2008 World Series - Philadelphia Phillies vs. Tampa Bay Rays
Texsox replied to knightni's topic in The Diamond Club
Just a side note, what makes it a World Series? What hubris we have. -
Why would they come all this way and not land? I've always believed if another life form managed to get this far, they would land somewhere and say How the hell are you?!

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 29, 2008 -> 12:40 PM) So someone who did 10 years for manslaughter can run for President but Arnold Schwarzenegger can't? technically Arnold can run for President, he just can't hold the office or be on the ballot in most states.

QUOTE (BobDylan @ Oct 29, 2008 -> 10:56 AM) They do everything. When I set up for them to store my stuff I told them, originally, to put it in long term storage because I wasn't sure how long I'd keep it in there. After they quoted me the price to move it to Oregon, I was very clear that I would hire another company to move it or look into other options. This place does not keep very good records, or they just like to bull s***. Every time I call, they ask for my phone number and say they never had it so they've not been able to call me back regarding any matters. About two months into storage, my credit card expired so I gave them a new number. Every month since they called me and told me my card was expired, to which I'd wait on hold for 45 minutes until they realized and found that I had already given them another number. As far as people saying I should let the storage company pick up the stuff that isn't mine, I've told them to give my number to the owners to call me when they notice they have missing things. I'll have the stuff delivered myself. I just want to be a pain in the ass for these people right now. While it probably feels good to keep someone's property, are you accepting responsibility if something happens to that person's stuff? If it is damaged or stolen while you have it, wouldn't you be responsible? You know it isn't yours and you are not returning it. Sounds like you are opening yourself up to some trouble that wouuld just make it worse. Were you items kept in their own storage unit, or in a large warehouse operation?

QUOTE (Soxy @ Oct 29, 2008 -> 11:49 AM) legally they would still be needed for visitation rights, property and inheritance stuff, right? SS said he was in favor of eliminating all incentives, I assumed those would be the kind of incentives eliminated or at least not tied to this concept of marriage or union. If you keep those items where one person has specific rights with another if they are joined together, then incentives still exist.
