Solid. He was #7 on my list and the second 3rd basemen I listed.

Wow, I just went over my list and there will be a couple names I am shocked that will not be on this list. I knew some like Bannister, Carlos May, Karkovice, probably would not make it, but I'm now guessing Gamble, Zisk, and Minosa will not. Maybe even Ventura will be left off. Wow.

My favorite Ozzie moment from his playing days. I worked for a company headquartered in Milwaukee that leased many Lexus from Selig leasing. We would get tickets in their old press box converted to premium service seats. We also received "Bud's own tickets" *cough bull s**** first row next to the visitor's on deck circle. I was invited and did not mention I was a Sox fan until we were safely inside and I bought the second round of drinks. Oz was having one of those days, and after hitting three ropes, all caught, he get's robbed on a shot up the middle. He is running to the dugout, pulls off his helmet, throws it as hard as he could as he yells f*** THIS MOTHERf***ING GAME! I forget who was on on deck, but he turned to the stands and said "his English is really gotten better!" That was also the day I learned the best gambling game, mound ball for between innings fun.

Soxtalk agreement, I barely remember the cosmic convergence that must happen for that to occur. And Juggs was | .................................................................................................... ........................................................................... | this close to having it right

Media Bias: Perceived or Real? To what extent, and where?

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 02:32 PM) Maybe that's because he hasn't been doing his JOB all damn year? Showing up to cherry-pick which votes you take, and even then only taking ones that can't come back to bite you in the ass isn't representing Illinois, or doing his job. Hmm, so many ways to go with this Alpha . . . I said the same thing when Bush and Clinton ran for reelection. Amazing the POTUS has that much time to run for office. I believe the Presidential position is important enough to have people with jobs running, not just the unemployed who have the time off to run. Hell, simply, that's the way I've always heard it should be . . . we just accept it as a necessary evil of our system. -
Who do you think will win the November election?
Texsox replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
I believe there are a lot of voters who tell the pollsters the Obama PC line who will pull the switch for McCain. People vote for people that look like themselves. More Americans look like McCain / Palin than Obama / Biden. -
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 02:30 PM) Up until the very end, he was nothing but a class act and an MVP candidate. If it weren't for Boras, he still would be here. If it wasn't for the Tigers and their huge gamble, he would still be here. Boras doesn't have amazing mind meld powers. The Tigers took a gamble with a contract probably double what the Sox would and should have offered. Winners all around.

I'm a little surprised he isn't higher.

Just keep in mind, how well does your employer investigate employee paperwork for working? Now imagine if your employer is tricked and they have to pay a huge fine, will that seem fair? Not every company who has an illegal on their payroll is aware they are employing illegals. Is it really in our national's best interest to cripple our agriculture industry?

QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) At some point in the fence, there will be a gate. The gate will be patrolled by guards. The guards can be corrupted. Far more people than we think pass through the border because the people patrolling it look the other way. That's why building a wall is a waste of time/money. Actually, at least here, there will be lots of gates to allow property owners, most ranchers and farmers access to the river for water. And the gates will be locked, but not guarded 24/7. Basically patrols. And many property owners have found themselves cut off from most of their land, and the river front acreage is the most valuable. Imagine building a fence on Lake Michigan, Through Lake Forrest and cutting those home owners off from the lake. That pig would fly.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 08:58 AM) I have been and still am 100% in favor of punishing business that knowingly hire illegals. I agree. Swift was voluntarily participating in a government program to help them hire legals and avoid accepting fraudulent documentation. But that didn't stop a different arm of the government from raiding them. It's like punishing someone for accepting a counterfeit bill. And meat packing plants do pay well, but not enough people are willing to move to the middle of nowhere and still fewer want the volume of cattle that pass through in their own back yards. Bottom line, undesirable work in cold conditions at extremely fast pace to provide groceries to Americans at prices we can live with.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 10:35 AM) Holy crap that's a lot of water. In related news, The Texas Tech swim team will be holding meets in the football stadium . . .

The Border Fence is behind schedule and current projections have this boondoggle at $400,000,000 over budget. And it will not solve the biggest problem, American businesses need workers willing to do some pretty crappy jobs in agriculture. Migrant work just sucks, but we have hundreds of thousands of people willing to do that work, just to the south of us. During war time we were quick to implement the Bracero Program when we did not have enough young men to sustain our ag industry. Too bad the current political climate calls for US educated kids to work these jobs.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 07:44 AM) 81-65, +1 over MIN 13 games remain. We need breathing room. And we will not be getting any breathing room. Neither team has enough to deliver a knock out punch. I'm picturing a final weekend series with CQ, Joe, and Paulie all bandaged up with crutches, wheelchairs coming out like some Civil War fife and drum team.

Who do you think will win the November election?
Texsox replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
Some will mock me, but I truly believe we have two good to excellent candidates. Both parties nominated the candidates I hoped they would. Both candidates have demonstrated a commitment to the public good throughout their careers. They both, IMNSHO, fumbled their VP selections in attempts to "balance". So I am, as Kap would say, /popping some corn / and waiting for the show. -
Nature exposes our weaknesses. I was asked about the home we just placed at camp. Up on top of a raised slab, on a point jutting out into the Laguna Madre. I said basically we just flipped off mother nature and said come and get it.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) I don't think we established a government to bailout corporations that make bad business decisions Oh, by the way, the auto industry is now asking for a bailout. I don't think we should bail out businesses either. But I do believe when a "bail out" is in the best interest of America, we should consider it. Kind of like cutting off your nose to spite your face. To say we should never ever bail out a business ties our hands needlessly.

Plus a good old fashioned payment before an election is always a nice way to win votes. The economy is slowing right before an election OMG!! The other party may get in!! Quick buy the voters something and tell them someone else will be paying for it. So now we have all the spending and half the paying for it.

Kap, buy mosquito spray, like a case of the stuff. The damn things are still everywhere even after weeks of aerial spraying. Good luck to everyone.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 03:58 PM) Oh yeah? And if we finish the season one game behind the Twins? Every game is the most important game of the season from today until the division is clinched. Yet every game since April will have the exact same value in the record.

Bottom line who is going to a September 11th vigil tonight? The Boy Scouts here were doing three across the area, one by one they stopped do to poor attendance. This year a couple people were upset that one was not being held, but no one wanted to do the work necessary to make it happen. So no, it just is not as moving as it was 6 years ago.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) Hmm, Bill Clinton's in the news again. . . I figured I'd better beat the wingnuts to it. beat what?
