Would it improve the 'buster . . .
I've been trying to think of Soxy, Rex, Balta, Jim before using the term 'Dems will' 'Dems think' etc. and to think of Kap, SS, YASNY, Jas before using the term 'GOPers think', and 'REPs will'. By personalizing it, I think some of the argumentative statements that are so incendiary would be better phrased, leading to better threads.

50 FAVORITE WHITE SOX PLAYERS
QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 11:01 AM) Sooooo... I got to the end and realized that I had no bio. Seriously, just post his name and invite everyone to write a bio. He was the face of the franchise through some pretty lean times. I think it could be a really cool thread.

Russian economy collapsing
QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 10:44 AM) So what you're really saying is, we should change the title of President to Quarterback? Either Barack Obama or John McCain will be inauguarated as the 43rd Quarterback of the United States in January 2009. I've gone with an even different metaphor - cheerleader. One of Reagan's greatest accomplishments was as a cheerleader. After the scandal of Nixon, the bumbling and WIN! silliness of Ford, the sit back and wait Iranian policy of Carter, Reagan rode in on a black stallion and said we're here to kick some ass. Give me a U Give me a S Give me an A! Clinton had some of that same magic. After watching grandpa Ron and Grandma and Grandpa Bush he was a sax playing hedonist that could party.

Russian economy collapsing
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 10:49 AM) Then seriously, I had better never hear a word about George W Bush ruining America again. I've said many times, and believe it, that Presidents receive far too much credit, and far too much blame, for what happens in this country and around the world.

'Anonymous' Hacker Group Gets Palin's Emails
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 11:31 AM) I just read yesterday that Bill Clinton sent two emails from his official address while in office, and one was a test. No one uses their official email from the sound of it. And they (Clinton staff) made a big deal that the White House did not have a network and that Bush Sr. used 3x5 note cards. It would be interesting to note when that email address was created and what was happening at the time. My guess? She had it before she was Governor and just kept using it.

For Minnesota to catch us now...
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 10:22 AM) So in other words, we can't say that the 03 and 04 white sox, who were projected not to necessarily win the division didn't choke either. They just "overacheived" Everyone has their own definition of choking. Arguing your definition is better than the next person's might be fun, but probably not. In my definition, there has to be an absence of legitimate reasons for not winning. Those reasons would include, lack of talent, injuries, key blown calls, and maybe a couple more. So I would have a difficult time, for example, labeling it choking if the Sox went .400 for the rest of the season and lost to Minny. The Sox talent, when healthy is probably .500, and they have injuries in key positions.

'Anonymous' Hacker Group Gets Palin's Emails
QUOTE (YASNY @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 10:52 AM) Finding it dispicable is the politically correct stance. And aren't Dems the masters of politically correct? Almost every noted Dem here denounced this, if they didn't denounce it later when it was a Dem, wouldn't it be hypocritical? Of course the GOP types will applaud the courageous acts of the person who hacked his email. Plus, he's Muslim and we have to be careful. I actually do not believe the GOP types would do that, but it's about as equally wrong as thinking Dems would be more outraged.

Media Bias: Perceived or Real? To what extent, and where?
QUOTE (Cknolls @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 09:38 AM) Sen. Barack Obama has launched a new Spanish-language TV ad that seeks to paint Sen. John McCain as anti-immigrant, even tying the Republican to his longtime conservative talk-radio nemesis Rush Limbaugh. As first reported by the Washington Post, Obama's ad features a narrator saying: "They want us to forget the insults we've put up with...the intolerance...they made us feel marginalized in this country we love so much." The screen then shows these two quotes from Limbaugh: "...stupid and unskilled Mexicans." --Rush Limbaugh "You shut your mouth or you get out!" --Rush Limbaugh The narrator then says, "John McCain and his Republican friends have two faces. One that says lies just to get our vote...and another, even worse, that continues the policies of George Bush that Will the media go apes*** over Barry's new immigration ad like they did last week over McCain's sex ed ad? Unfair of Obama. While I do not believe McCain will be a favorable as Bush towards migrant workers, to paint him with a Rush brush is unfair. But if this is an ad, why is it in a media bias thread?I think we all agree that Rush is biased and his show is a conservative commercial.

Russian economy collapsing
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 09:39 AM) It allowed the reform wing that Gorbachev led in the 1980s to grab the reins of the party and Gorbachev's openness policy exposed too much weakness to allow the state to survive, IMO. When I saw Gorbachev speak last year a question was asked about Reagan's involvement and he made a face and said there were many people involved. He intimated that he, and like minded colleagues, should also be credited. Along with governments around the world. Imagine if one person could bring down the entire USSR, then certainly two people could bring down the US. That's scary.

'Anonymous' Hacker Group Gets Palin's Emails
QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 10:09 PM) I should add, I agree 100% with this statement. I would also like to add, not everyone is email and internet savvy. I know a lot of people that use private and personal emails at work. Unless this truly was to circumvent some law, and I doubt it, I think this is much to do about nothing. QUOTE (YASNY @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 09:27 AM) I can't help but believe that if it was Obama's personal email account that was hacked and made public, this thread would be 10 times longer and filled with indignation about 'dirty Republican tactics". I would say the same thing and be accused of being partisan because everyone would forget this.

Crede Likely done in Chicago
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 10:12 AM) Other than the starting pitching, wasnt the Braves dynasty consistently broken up and rebuilt? The only constant in the offense seems to be Chipper Even if that was totally accurate, wasn't it the starting pitching that had the "most value"? The pitching would have been "broken up" to fill holes in other positions. Also, almost no one gets resigned because it will cost too much and the money is needed for other positions. And I'm not against trading players when you have an abundance in a position and can fill a serious hole, but the whole trading for trading sake because a player is hitting his prime, is too far sighted and never tries to win today.

'Anonymous' Hacker Group Gets Palin's Emails
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 08:58 AM) My admittedly limited knowledge of the laws of evidence is that information obtained by an illegal act is only inadmissible if the perpetrator was acting as an agent of the government (law enforcement). If they were not, I think, the evidence COULD be admissible. I spent a little time researching and you nailed it. The value is what gets tricky. Juries seem to take a dim view of criminals as witnesses, especially those that were committing crimes at the time. Also. like many posters here, the juries can be conflicted whether they believe that evidence was "fair".

Crede Likely done in Chicago
QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 09:05 AM) Trade people as soon as they become good. Sounds like the 1990s Blackhawks. You'll have to pardon my lack of enthusiasm for that approach. Mine to. Imagine how many times that Braves dynasty would have broken up. Eventually you have to play the guys you got and try to win something. And by playing, trying to keep a core together for more than just until they have high trade value. That high trade value moment is also the moment when you can win something.

We also should have traded Konerko when his value was higher. Buerhle as well. Dye has probably seen his best seasons, so he should have been traded, Do we think AJ's value will somehow get higher? He's getting up in age as well. What we want is a team full of guys who are approaching their high value mark, then trade as soon as they reach it for guys who will be approaching their high value mark. I'm not certain if we would ever win, but it would be entertaining. But wait, isn't this what K-Dubya tries to do with the minor league system?
