2 members of Jamaican track team received drugs, HGH
Texsox replied to IlliniKrush's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 02:28 PM) "Two members of the 2008 Jamaican Olympic track team received shipments of performance-enhancing drugs, including HGH, according to documents obtained by SI." Not really a surprise, and diminishes anything done by them. Gotta think one is Bolt, easy. Dam Dam Dam. As he crossed the finish line both times I thought, I hope he isn't on drugs. That would suck so much. -
Earlier today I needed to visit my Doctor for some more lab tests. It's a well worn path. I had been fasting, but drinking lots of water and when I arrived I really needed to go to the bathroom. My Doctor has a practice where almost every patient is old, I mean really old, like even older then me. I was in line at the window right behind a lady who I'm not sure which number would be greater, her age or her weight. If she weighed 90 pounds I would be surprised. Dammit, she needs the restroom. I sit down and start fidgeting, and fidgeting, and fidgeting. Crossing and uncrossing my legs. I'm thinking her walker was stuck. Finally she comes out and I half run to the bathroom. BAM the smell whacks me in the face as I enter. Whoa, that was the worst smell ever. But I needed to go, and with my eyes watering and the nose hairs curling I get to the toilet. DAM, she was still there. Well not her, but the largest pile I have ever seen. So much crap that half was out of the water. And one dainty little piece of toilet tissue. That f***ing scene is now seared into my memory forever. I quickly reach and flush and water enters the bowl, but nothing moves. It is so full, it's hopelessly packed. I flush again and all I do is release another powerful bouquet. Now I start to panic. No way they believe that sweet little old lady left a deuce the size of Barry Bonds head. I know the fat guy is going to get blamed. But I have to go so bad. I stick my head out and call for a little help. "I am so sorry but someone clogged the toilet. Is there another one I could use?" "no" So I stand there are they continue trying to flush this monster and I contemplate wetting my pants. Finally the toilet monster is flushed and I can go. For like 30 minutes. The whole time the smell is just killing me. Later the nurse mentioned all the drugs that some patients are on adds to the smell. f***. That s*** should be illegal. Fortunately, as I am exiting they call me for the labs which is next door to the bathroom. Another patient is walking into the bathroom, I say "wasn't me". As they are drilling for my blood I hear *cough* *Gag* *choke* *gag* *Cough* from next door. After she poked my left and right arm, she hands me a specimen jar and mentioned she needs a urine sample. I'm going back later.

So now the guys are placing boards underneath the trailer wheels to provide some traction. Two guys are laying underneath the trailer, as it is moving and wrestling the boards in place. I look and think to myself, they either love their jobs, or hate living. I'm First Aid trained but I really do not want to be laying on the ground explaining, "a house fell on you, I am first aid trained, do you want me to help?". Anyway they get into position, and this time with the Yukon, a pickup, and Semi, they get the house up on top. Yeah! Now I'm starting to wonder how they are going to maneuver the house into position. The Semi seems too big, and there is not enough space to really move around. As they are unhooking the semi, I assume they will be using the pickups. Nope. They move the pickups out of the way also. As they put this house on what appear to be roller skates on steroids, I realize they are going to be pushing this dam thing. Remember that 12' drop from episode one? They are pushing the house towards that drop off. As it gains momentum, the head cheese starts screaming stop! stop! STOP! Whew, that was close. Now for another 3 hours they will be jacking the house up, placing these wheels underneath, them pushing the house into position. Nothing like a professional job. My new weekend and summer retreat. Hurricane Dolly made landfall about 15 miles south of here.

So I have donated to my camp a 2 bedroom mobile home for my summer and weekend stays. It has to be moved 100 miles and located on a raised area of camp. It will be positioned out in the Laguna Madre, about a 1/2 mile from the Gulf of Mexico. The land has been valued at over $30,000,000. Awesome views with dolphins, ships (not shipps), sailboats, and other water craft floating by. Anyhow, I'm not worried about the move because I hired skilled and experienced home movers for the task. One of the men who help with camp has coordinated the efforts and was there early driving his Yukon instead of his Cadillac. I thought that was a little strange, since he wasn't towing his boat or anything, but I had other things to attend to. When the house finally arrived, it was being towed by a International Semi tractor. They arrived at the gate, which was a straight shot to the small concrete covered hill that the house would be sitting on. At that moment, I knew things would be getting interesting. After shaking hands and the howdys were over, I watched in disbelieve as a tow rope was rigged from the Yukon to the semi, which was towing the house. As this was registering, I heard the supervisor give the order to GO! and off they went charging across camp and up the hill. They take off across camp, the Yukon pulling the Semi, pulling the house, at as close to full speed as they can go. Once the Yukon was about half way across the slab he drove to the left and got out of the way, the semi went a few feet further and stopped as well. At the end of the "runway" was a 12 foot drop that would have hurt. Unfortunately the house was only partway up the sand hill! Ah if I close my eyes I can still hear the yelling and screaming. If Los Medios Blancos was there, I might be able to tell you what he was yelling. As they try to drive the next four feet or so, tires were spinning and nothing was happening. More yelling and screaming. Then we have that great moment in all cluster f***s, seven guys standing around looking at the problem. After several minutes of thought, the answer becomes clear. More Power! Part 2 later, I have to run to a Doctors appointment.

See sig It's going to be the most incredible pressure packed regular season series ever.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 06:06 PM) Did you do that after reminiscing and rewatching the White Sox World Series victory highlight reel? The 1917 one, I mean. We were all there for the 2005 one, but there aren't many of you who remember that other one. Hope it was a good one. Oh no. The nurse came by with my medicine and then all the boys from 1917 stopped by to wish me a happy birthday. It reminded me of 1915 when we took the train from Sag Harbor or was it Two Rivers? Anyway, FlaSoxxTim, oops, I mean John, wait, what's your name again? Have you stopped playing that damn loud music yet? You know the 1906 team was much more special to me. I'm tired now, I have to go to sleep.

Thank you. I'm going to bed now, it's been an exhausting day. I received the Matlock Collectors DVD and watched six straight hours.

Especially if they come back to burglarized homes. We became pretty complacent here it had been 40 years since a really big one. But for the most part, people got out of high risk buildings and sought cover in better buildings, but not many left the area.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 03:51 PM) No one said anything about trying to win the division with the September call-ups... however, they sure do make a difference and add a lot to the team. Just because they are backups doesn't mean they don't contribute. You have me confused. If not to win the division, then what do they add a lot to and make a difference in what? How will they "add a lot" and "make a difference" if not to win games? Are you suggesting current starters will be rested and these guys will be playing? I don't see these guys getting much playing time if we are still in a tight race, which we are and will be, by all indications? I would reword your post to say, they may make a small difference, and could possible contribute a little under the exact right circumstances, but Ozzie will lean on the guys that got him to this point, the guys he knows, and trusts. He will not take a chance that one of these guys will suddenly play better then the guy they have been behind all season. But, after all it is Oz, and anything is possible

QUOTE (BobDylan @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 02:11 PM) What he said. I think Slingbox is the only wireless option, as well. But the Slingbox has to connect to the cable box. I also have the option to just attach to my cable outlet. I was looking at the Pinnacle PCTV HD Ultimate Stick but it wasn't clear if I needed to hook up through the cable set top box or not. And, gee what a surprise, the Best Buy clerk was not too much help.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 01:55 PM) I think changing this from an error would be ridiculous. You can't retroactively go back and change a ruling just to make no-hitters happen. The call was made on the play at the time it happened, and it was a 50/50 call. Dozens of plays are ruled errors and or hits every day, and if we start changing them just to get no-hitters, well, that'll really mess the the rule books. Yost is so f***ing annoying it's ridiculous. He's sticking up for his guy. It may be annoying to you, but I bet it plays well in the clubhouse, and that is all Yost should be concerned with for the moment. IF and I emphasize *IF* you are going to go back, it would only happen if it "mattered". I would be most in favor of doing this for a no hitter because it doesn't take something away from one player and give it to another. An example of that would be a batting title. If that error or hit would swing a batting title, I'd clearly be against any over ruling except in a very clear cut example, perhaps fair or foul.

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 12:34 PM) Ah I see I see, that I definitely agree with. Not so much here, but in other spots, people are thinking this player or that will be the difference maker, and that just seems so unrealistic to me. The greatest benefit could be extra rest for starters if somehow they clinched early, but I do not see an early clinch.

I believe a strong building begins at the foundation and that the working class is our nation's foundation. Building from the top and hoping a foundation will appear is too risky for me. I believe we have an obligation to feed each other. I always think we can do better. I also believe there are multiple paths to the same goal and that character counts over ideology. That man is inherently good and fair. I believe in second chances. I believe that life is sacred, both for the unborn and the born and I would sooner trust the government to heal the sick then to kill people. I believe we can achieve anything we can conceive. I'm not an originalist with the Constitution, the writers are fallible, but I also believe I should be able to own a gun. I believe we need to write laws that benefit American businesses as well as the workers. That neither side always has the other side's interest at heart, or really knows what is best. I believe we need to pay for government, not leave a debt for someone else. I'd rather have a spend and tax government then a spend and borrow. Cut taxes when there is a surplus, not deficits.

QUOTE (shipps @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 12:21 PM) I kind of respect that actually. Its when he thinks its a good idea to give enemy troops our battle tactics by drawing in the sand during the broadcast that makes me question him. One of my early career aspirations was to become a journalist covering wars and other dangerous locations.

I really am sorry to hear that.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 01:00 PM) I'm sorry, but I can't see how anyone would say that's an error. It looked to me like all he had to do was pick up a slow moving ground ball and make the throw. The last frame or so shows the runner not too far down the base path. The ball did not take a funny hop, or anything like that. So from that one vantage point, it seemed like an error. I also think Balta brings up a good point, these things are rarely ever 100% unbiased and accurate. There are a few "unwritten rules" like the first hit being 100% clean.
-
QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 12:53 PM) Well in this case someone like Owens could be particularly useful even without getting ABs, so there is call up that could actually be impactful I should have been clearer. I have no expectations, anything is a bonus. There may be one of those moments.

How important are cabinet choices for Prez candidates?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 12:48 PM) Well you have idiots like Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz who are gone so Obama wouldn't have to worry about that. It's my own opinion that Gates is highly qualified and should stay though. I could be wrong. As long as Obama doesn't gut the intelligence budget I won't have a problem with how he handles national security. If he goes for Clinton-esque cutbacks it's going to sting and I'll be pissed. If he keeps it strong like Bush has then we'll be ok. Besides talking about ending the war he hasn't indicated in his speeches that he's thinking about cutting it though, although it would be kind of dumb to do that while campaigning. I'm a big Gates fan, so I wouldn't mind seeing him around. -
I've never hoped for any production out of any call ups. If you are trying to win a division with AAA guys, you are in trouble. If you are out of the race, it's a nice chance to get some MLB looks, but when every game, every AB matters, it's just a nicer plane ride and a nicer locker room.
-
If this was a tag team bout, I would give an edge to Obama-Biden. But we're really electing a POTUS, so it isn't quite as important.
